I am foreigner planning to stay in Malaysia for a longer time, maybe forever.... heh, so I have been doing junior coaching for 15 years in Finland and thought that it would be nice to continue that work in here also. Malaysian junior coaching system is very much unknown to me, so I tried to find some information where to find a place to train kids. I contacted both FAM and Sabah FA, but neither of them ever answered me e-mail or phone calls.

Just trying to figure out the situation. Usually clubs in Finland are very eager to get volunteers to do the job. But in here things seem to be different. Is it because I am foreigner, or is the situation this bad, that there is no junior football coaching in Malaysia.

I hope someone can help me and tell more about this topic.

I have seen some football games in here, and must say that the only way to get better results is to put some more effort on juniors.

Anyway the question was, how is junior training organised in Malaysia, and how I can get involved with it.

Well it really depends, i just turned 15 and i play for an international club in KL, called KLYS. (Kuala Lumpur Youth Soccer)
It is a parent-run organisation, with very highly skilled coaches, (head coach is an argentine who played for argentina in the 80s/90's)

and consists of players from international schools in Kuala Lumpur,
(most notably The Alice Smith School, Garden International School, Mont Kiara International School, International School of Kuala Lumpur, Lycee Francais KL (french high school) and DSKL (the german school)
There are not that many malaysians in the club, we do have a few though, but most of the players are british or european.

We are noted for participation in the Youth Club World Cup of football, Gothia Cup, in Sweden,
this year our u18s reached the quarter-finals, our best achievement so far.

This however is more of an international club, with very few malaysians, are you considering helping out with coaching for local players, or a club such as this one?

Well if u asked how do we pick our National Youth Team?
It's like this:
School Team Representatives will play in MSSD ( Zone Qualifying )
School Team that won 1st , 2nd and 3rd will represent their zone in MSSS ( State Qualifying )
If any good players comes to the eye of state coaches, they will be picked and they will represent the state in MSSM ( National/ Inter state tourney ).

so far , there's a lot of youth football clubs/academy like Brazil Training Center, Arsenal Academy ( Sri KDU International School Team ) .

My friend's cousin who plays for the national under-16 will have to participate in MSSD , MSSS , MSSM in order to catch the attention of the national youth coaches.

He too plays for Brazil Academy , but national coaches doesn't take note of matches being played among small academies.

Anyway Welcome to Malaysia smile.gif

arsenal soccer schools malaysia r pathetic, (no offence)
they lost like 5-0 to all the teams in a tournament that i played in, of 7 minute halves lol.

Brazillian soccer schools are split into two, BFC and BFA (brazillian football centre, and brazillian football academy), but they are different from the training they do at schools, they have a seperate first team,
BFC being the stronger team.

YFA are a good team, RSC are not as good but alright.

There are a lot of clubs, but i think the only one thats international is KLYS, from my experience of playing against other teams in leagues and tournaments.

BFC's squad has one or two europeans if im not mistaken, but arsenal soccer schools dont.
It's quite lush playing against arsenal soccer schools malaysia actually, a walk in the park enit?

True enough , already said. U have to join the school team to catch the attention of the national coaches.
There won't be any scout , going around carrying binoculars .
But to be honest, i notice the football quality somehow raising .
Youth talents goes rotting in MAS if the FAM continues their way of managing stuff

first of all, Welcome to Malaysia.

According to all the replies that you get stating about there is no scouts in malaysia going around scouting for young talents it's true. One of the reason why malaysia's football standard is always down the drain.

Maybe you can try to set up ur own soccer schools?

mybe you can start with your own junior football team.. if you have money or been sponsored, you even can travel around malaysia in order to find new talents.. since school holiday will start soon.. it will be a very best time to hang around and scout for new junior talents (maybe below 12 years old)..

There are the Brazilian Football Academy (I was there for a year), Arsenal academies, RSCs. Just to name the few popular ones. But from what I know most of them dont have the intention to be pro although they are good. Even they wanna be pro they would rather go to Sao Paolo, Brazil (a programme which the Brazilian school has) to train with the youth team and hopefully get their talent identified. And if he makes it, he wont come back to Malaysia.

The "professional" players here are based on school tourneys. I've been playing long and hard for my district and I know that was how they choose players. They dont bother scouting on private soccer schools like RSC or Arsenal soccer schools. just my opinoin. dont flame me. So the downfall of Malaysian football to me is obviously they way they scout for talent. Players who are related to the FAM since a youngster and sports schools like BJSS has the bigger advantage of joining the local football teams, overlooking the other talents we have in the mentioned soccer schools.

I appreciate you have the intention to turn things around for us and I hope you would understand what I tried to point out. The Malaysian system of scouting talent is obviously corrupted and hopefully mroe youths from private soccer schools would get injected into the Malaysian team. Just look at UPB My Team and their efficiency on scouting talents that ALMOST beaten the National team. And they are not even recognized as "professional players" yet.
