I found this article from here. Seems like good and well written article. I'd suggest of getting a Wii for both of you to enjoy.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
If you want to turn your lady friend into a gaming fan, here’s some advice from Xbox Live community manager Christa Phillips: Don’t be a jerk.
Sounds obvious enough, but the statement earned knowing laughs and enthusiastic applause from the standing-room-only crowd gathered for the “How to Get Your Girlfriend Into Gaming” panel at the Penny Arcade gaming convention in Seattle recently.
Seems some of you game-playing gents like to throw the controller, use four-letter words and ignore company when you’re immersed in a video game. And that’s just no way to convince your sweetie to forego date night for a little co-op “Castle Crashers.” “The game becomes the enemy, like sports,” said Phillips.
The five girl-gamer panelists had other advice for the audience of 100-plus: Don’t impose your favorite game on your gal pal. “Girlfriends may not be into ‘Halo,’ but they might like something else, so don’t force ‘Halo’ on them and expect them to love gaming,” said Cori Roberts, editor of Gameinatrix.com.
Davin Loh, a freelance writer from Chicago, has been down that road. His girlfriend played “Halo” for five minutes and got dizzy. He came to the panel to get tips on how to get her into games other than “Rock Band” and “Elite Beat Agents.”
(It’s worth noting that said girlfriend, Aleen Lee, trucked across the country to attend PAX — and the panel — with her beau.) She countered that she’s not opposed to gaming at all — she’s just busy with her job as an attorney. “When I do have free time, I don’t want to be blowing things up,” she said.
There’s definitely more to games than blowing things up, said panel participants. Your wife may not want to score headshots in “Gears of War,” but she might dig playing “Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix.” Licensed properties such as “Harry Potter” or “Spider-Man” may earn an eye-roll from the hard-core gaming crowd, but “name recognition can hook people,” said panelist Jane Pinckard, editor of GameGirlAdvance.
Here’s another idea: Play co-op. Many games have a cooperative mode, where you and a buddy can tackle missions as a duo. Or if that’s still too intimidating, have your girlfriend sit with you and watch while you game. Heck, you can even ask her to be your wingman, said Phillips.
“Ask her to help you spot snipers,” she said. “Chicks like flattery. If she feels like she’s helping, then you’re making it a positive experience.”
So, what are some other good games for noobs? Internet casual games — which are popular with the female set — are a great entrée into the video-game world. Some are just online versions of offline games, such as poker and Sudoku, and still others are variations of well-known themes, such as match games and hidden-object puzzles.
And, of course, everyone gave props to Nintendo for making gaming more inclusive. Heck, Carrie Underwood has a pink DS, right? And the Wii made being a gamer as easy as operating a TV remote.
But plenty of audience members — who lined up to ask advice as though the panel were a live-action “Loveline” session — wanted to know how to turn their Wii-fan woman into a harder-core gamer. And another common lament: My girl games, but won’t identify herself as a gamer. How do I get her to cop to it?
Good luck, said the panelists. Until recently, the vast majority of gamers were young boys, and games were considered toys. There’s still a stigma attached to gaming — and that’s not going to change overnight.
But Nicole Tanner, moderator of the panel and PR director at game company Foundation 9, said the gamer label isn’t important. “Playing the game is what counts, not identifying as a gamer.”
Hmm..personal preferences then. I'd rather have a boyfriend who enjoys playing games. Playing Wii together is such a turn on for me.
I have 3 gal friends who are addicted to Halo 3 on Xbox Live...so I dont think the point about 'forcing Halo onto them' is applicable in my case, lol
Unfortunately, lot of gals doesnt think like you do.
THey rather had a much sensative boyfren.
I wonder on the other hand, does a guy really like the girl to be as addicted as they are in gaming, especially when you got own so badly in a competitive games. I say a girls (girlfren i believe) own her bf in a dota games, and end up quarreling so hard in the cybercafe.
Talkin about modern gamer lovers lol
Guys have problems with ego. But this is understandable. If you have a girlfriend that beat you in Mario or something, I don't think you'd tell about it to your male friends. That's normal. smile.gif
But fighting because of it, is purely childlish. I can say "bye bye' before you can even say "Mario is not human! He's a plumber! Wargh!" nod.gif
get her a nintendo DSL. lol. I still can't appreciate my bf's obsession with Monster Hunter, Halo and recently, Oblivion but I suppose I understand his gaming obsession because I'm hooked on Animal Crossing myself and this creates a lot of compromise. I very seldom fidget over the fact that he spends so many hours a day gaming. Lol. Plus, having consoles means he's staying home and if he goes on PSP, at least I have my NDSL to bring along.
Girls who game (even if it's cooking mama) are easier to buy presents for in a guy's book. My bf would have 101 reasons not to buy me jewelry but doesn't double think when it comes to buying game-related stuff. Seems more "worth it" to him.
I still feel like an outsider when it comes to CC gaming though. Previously I got hooked on CS but then I got bored.
Looking at a guy's VERY surprise face when we give them that OMG-how-long-will-this-game-come-out-argh game as a present... is priceless. Now that's my #1 reason to get a gaming bf (rather than the boring, 'Shall we go watch duck fights tonight?")
Well, since that we're in this subject,
WHAT games do you think would be fun to be enjoyed by both bf and gf? Take note that the word "fun" is subjective.
i love puzzle bobble. used to finish it in the arcades with just one 20 cent coin.
i think the Lego series is good too (star wars, indiana jones).. it's funny, the co-op is brilliant and it's not too violent (if you look at smashing legos into pieces is violent, then skip it)
Harvest Moon is sort of like "farm sim".
typical storyline is, you inherit a farm from your family (dead uncle/granpa/dad) and it's your job to run the farm.
you can interact with the town ppl, sell your farm stuffs, etc.
kinda fun if you like sim type of game.
only cuter.
my GF loves to play Diner dash, an arcadish game in PC, and sims game in PS2, which was her small bro's console..
never tried to influence her to play other games before, since she always mad at me when i play games a lot(afraid that i might get fat without exercise).... i guess girlfriends might get angry when they see their bf play games in long hours, they feel ignored and forgotten..
so IMHO, girl gamer kinda cute, but at certain point i would prefer to avoid her playing War or shooting games, since i dont want her to yell "WTF!!" "DIE!!" and smash my PS3.....tongue.gif
my suggestion, if you really want to get you GF into gaming, let her play Co-op games with you, i suggest Obsecure in PS2, and tennis game TOP SPIN 3 in PS3..
i remembered when i play obsecure with my GF, its a game similar to Resident evil games, which have bf and gf characters in the storyline...so both of us can really connect with the characters,and there is this one time i had to rescue her from monsters(and i succeeded) then she rewarded me with a hug hehehe wub.gif shocking.gif shocking.gif rclxm9.gif rclxm9.gif rclxm9.gif
One of the reason is that it's easily to hold on (literally) with the gameplay. It's very easy. Try to buy her the bowling game (which I forgot the name) and she'd get hooked up instantly. Psst..works great with a tv bigger than 40inches. Lalala~ And, most of the games are like family oriented, so we get hooked up on it instantly.
Well, I hope you know her very good coz you need to figure what kind of games that she might interested in playing. For reviews of NDS games, you can check out here
http://www.gamespot.com/ds/index.html
So, from those list, if you think there are lots suitable games that your gf would like to play, then NDS it is blush.gif
I'd prefer NDS too because it's lightweight and I can carry it with me anywhere, especially if I have to wait for someone.
