No,there are plenty of lefty guitarists.Tony Iommi for an example.Don't forget about Malaysia's well known guitarist,Man Kidal too.Don't worry about being a lefthander,it's no excuse not to learn this kick ass instrument.I think it's easier for a righty to teach a lefty too.
However,if you've never played guitar, you should try playing as a righty because generally lefty guitars are harder to find and more expensive. |

Yeah, I suggest to just play as a righty. Starting is always harder than it seems but with some patience and focus you should be ripping in no time.

Highly agree that you try Right Handed playing if you're just beginning.
Lefty's playing right handed guitar normally have one skill that we righties learn for ages......... Left hand strength... Lefty's can grip chords better and more precise in my book. Although their right hand suffers slightly, it builds up much quicker with time. |

im a left hander.. if possible stick to playing a lefty axe.. i have a mate, was a natural lefty, ended up forcing himself playing right handers, regrets it now. Of course left hander guitars usualyl cost slightly more than right handers.. i suggest u'd check out guitar collection, esp the one in taman tun (ttdi), they usually bring in left handers for each range.. but only 1 or 2 units.. who knows u might get a good deal. cheers. & rock on..

well, i m left handed too. When i first learned guitar, i held a right handed guitar in the left handed way. However my teacher said he doesnt noe how to teach a left handed. So i started off using the right handed guitar. To me, it is quite natural n no difficulty at all. All u hav to do is juz practice n try not to think dat it is weird else u will not be able to get used to it. Now i m still using the right handed method. In fact, it would be weird if i am asked to play a left handed guitar. So, like most of the pros here said, u shud start wif a right handed guitar, try to get used to it. as long as u practice, nth is impossible. All the best for u =)

im lefthanded too but i play right handed.
its not easy actually to coordinate your left and right. Riitghthand may gain the strength but its difficult to control the flexibility of the movement distrupting your pattern and rythm while strumming, doing fast notes.... trying to shred is worse. Im trying to learn basic sweep picking now to improve both coordination. Damn super duper sucks hard to make it smooth. Need to warm up long enough if not both the hand freeze. If this can improve my right hand then ill learn to shredd. This post has been edited by CyberianHusky: Apr 21 2009, 08:30 AM |

Not much trouble, the only issue would be where the volume knobs, trembar and cables would be if you play electric. Restring a righty guitar and play lefty. Got money later on then get a proper lefty.

I'm a left-handed player and I'm using a left-handed guitar. I prefer doing it in a natural way instead of forcing myself to use right-handed guitar.
