I'm waiting for the new X2 6500.
Unlocked multi + less power usage = I suspect 3+Ghz OCs are easy.
Maybe AMD's Conroe came... 2 years late.

QUOTE(ah_khoo @ Sep 9 2008, 10:06 PM) x2 of k10 architecture is of 95w, so they're not so energy efficient if compared to athlon x2, but for sure they'll have better performance if compared clock to clock with its predecessors. AMD has dual core K10s, GE-6400/500/600 that run at same clock speeds and use 45W. It's only a matter of voltages. The BE is overvolted to make OCing easier without going overboard, I suppose. Overall power consumption would still be in between 50-70W for stock volts. 2.8G+ then you'd need extra voltages. The 45nm X2 part... 30W standard? We'll see when Regor (2MB L2, no L3, "K10.5") comes. This post has been edited by X.E.D: Sep 9 2008, 11:05 PM

TDP's not attractive, but value proposition seems to be good for OCers.
There's also a Phenom 8750 Black Edition coming, RM450-500. 3Ghz should also be no problems.

Deneb's TDP is bigger, but it seems like it uses less power overall, like fixed silicon.
AMD's probably confident enough to launch it at 3Ghz, it should OC to 3.5-3.7 on highend air. My guess anyway... 4G isn't impossible with phases and such.

WHOA
Phenom 8750 Black Edition on a M3A78 (79?)-T goes to 3.3Ghz!
For an RM450 chip, ABANDON YER WINDSORS

For Crysis, this sounds good. MSI DKA790GX + Phenom 8750 (Black or non-black, >3Ghz OC) http://forums.vr-zone.com/showthread.php?t=3327003.2Ghz 8750 vs Stock (3Ghz) E8400 This post has been edited by X.E.D: Sep 28 2008, 03:27 PM

QUOTE(shawn-mode @ Sep 28 2008, 03:41 PM) Why do you recommend tri-core? Quad should be better. I dont think tri-core justify the money spent. Because Quad can't OC that much. And Phenom 9k over 3.2Ghz almost definitely needs water. The tri-cores don't.

Only the lucky 9850s do that. 9950s can do it more consistently, but it's hot.
In a general case the 8750 gives you more breathing space while still delivering awesome GAMING experiences. Even if most games use 2 threads, the third is capable of handling Windows processes, so it is all good.

QUOTE(shawn-mode @ Sep 28 2008, 07:51 PM) No, but I'm in the consideration for one, along with Deneb indecision. If the Deneb signifies the era of easy 3.5-4Ghz OCing for AMD, straight grab. @ah_khoo Generally the 9550s are the worst Phenom bins, which probably means they aren't that consistent on OCing, *especially* when it comes to HTT OCing, which is bad on the 65nm Phenoms. The Black Edition for the 8750 gives its worth. It should essentially guarantee you an easy 3Ghz X3 (don't kill me if it doesn't, but I'm fairly confident), which in most cases, should be faster than a 2.2Ghz X4. (Not when vs your 2.8Ghz OC though )

QUOTE(shawn-mode @ Sep 28 2008, 09:56 PM) Which model is nice? I'm looking for 550 budget for board. Not more than that. Asus M3A79-T. No less than that. Unfortunately, price won't be that forgiving. Another RM100 on top of your budget is the US price. DDDD: But it's the *best* AM2+ motherboard, untopped and will be for long.

Funny. AMD chips coldbug (90% of them) but can do well in heat sectors. Intel's chips can handle sub-zero quite well, but hates extreme voltages. p/s: Asus Crosshair II now RM995 at Thundermatch. Who-A-Want? This post has been edited by X.E.D: Sep 30 2008, 08:15 PM

WTF! http://www.insidehw.com/Reviews/CPU/AMD-Ph...ck-Edition.html3.2Ghz at only 1.325V! Although it goes on a voltage spree after that, wow. Performance of a quad core with better performance in games. I said it was worth it, and here it is.

That's if you have 790GX. If you don't, go grab both. It you can wait, go grab Deneb.
