any kaspersky users here ?

Does it support multiple login/ users? Each time i'm switch to another account, an error message pop displaying 'kaspersky already loaded by other users' ?

btw; kaspersky is very strong in virus scanning. It can detects 'undetectable' malicious program/ virus than normal antivirus software.

fast user switching in XP is still not supported even in the recent version 5 of KAV.
According to Kaspersky support there will be a fix for this but not in the first maintenance pack

The only caveat to using Kaspersky is that it leaves behind thousands of ADS tags in your system. Read HERE
*
There is actually a program called "NTFS Streams Eraser"which i find a little more easy to use, you can get it (free) from here excessive-software

Kaspersky also has a tool to remove those ads , download here http://www.avpsea.com/downloads/klstreamremover.zip

1. You should only think about ADS (Alternate Data Streams) if you are running Windows XP AND your drive is NTFS.

Versions of Windows before XP and FAT32 drives do not support ADS, so such systems do not have ADS.

2. KAV 5 attaches ADS to files to increase scanning efficiency. You should only delete KAV's ADS's if you are removing KAV.

how come Kaspersky Personal Pro version 4.5.0.58 better than Kaspersky Personal version 5.0.149 below these : ?

10-25 August 2004
The test was made on 10-25 August 2004, using Windows 2000 SP4 on a CELERON 2400 Mhz, 256MB DDRAM.
All programs tested had the latest versions, upgrades and updates and they were tested using their full scanning capabilities e.g. heuristics, full scan etc.
The 76556 virus samples were chosen using VS2000 according to Kaspersky, F-Prot, RAV, Nod32, Dr.Web, Sweep, BitDefender, E-Trust and McAfee antivirus programs. Each virus sample was unique by virus name, meaning that AT LEAST 1 antivirus program detected it as a new virus.
ALL virus samples were unpacked and the only samples that were kept were the ones that were packed using external-dos-packers (that means not winzip, winrar, winace etc).
The virus samples had the correct file extension using a special program (Renexts) and were unique, according to checksum32 filesize.
Most "fake" virus samples were removed, as well as "garbage" files.
The program PER was not tested because there was no english demo version available.
The programs BOClean , VET , Titan , RisingAV , Ikarus and Freedom were not tested because there was no demo version available.
The program InVircible did not include a "typical" scanner-function and could not be tested.
The program V-Catch checks only mail accounts and could not be tested.
The following file types were used.

BAT, ΒΙΝ, CLA, CLASS, CLS, COM, CSC, DAT, DOC, ELF, EML, EXE, HLP, HQX, HTA, HTM, IMG, INF, INI, JS, MAC, MDB, MSG, OLE, PHP, PIF, PL, PPT, PRC, REG, SCR, SH, SHS, SMM, STI, TD0, TPU, VBA, VBS, WBT, XLS, XMI, XML.

The virus samples were divided into these categories, according to the type of the virus :

File = BeOS, FreeBSD, Linux, Palm, OS2, Unix, BinaryImage, BAS viruses.
MS-DOS = MS-DOS and HLL*. viruses.
Windows = Win.*.* viruses.
Macro = Macro and Formula viruses.
Malware = DoS, Constructors, Exploit, Flooders, Hoax, Jokes, Nukers, Sniffers, Spoofers, Virus Construction Tools, Virus Tools, Corrupted, Droppers, Intended, PolyEngines.
Script = BAT, Corel, HTML, Java, Scripts, VBS, WBS, Worms, PHP, Perl viruses.
Trojans-Backdoors = Trojan and Backdoor viruses.

not really
if you do windows update regularly, and do online scan, browse the web with some common sense...it is not that easy for your computer to be infected with virus

Thanks to your link to www.toptenreviews.com, I discovered http://www.virusbtn.com/, an independent website that evaluate AV.

No doubt BitDefender is an excellent AV based on the review from www.toptenreviews.com. However, the point counting system is based on 'Feature Set', 'Ease of use', 'Ease of setup', 'Help/Documentation' & 'Effectiveness'. To be able to be selected as the best AV, it must be an all-rounder. But my many concern when choosing an AV are
(1) EFFECTIVENESS - this is what AV supposed to do
(2) USE AS LITTLE SYSTEM RESOURCE AS POSSIBLE
I don't care much about non-necessary feature, ease of use or whether the company is giving 24h online toll-free support or not.

To compare the effectiveness, you can visit Virus Bulletin (An independent website) http://www.virusbtn.com/vb100/archives/products.xml .

A VB 100% award denotes that the product in question showed, in its default mode, 100 per cent detection of In the Wild test samples and no false positives in a selection of clean files.

I've selected some of the results(pass means receive VB 100% award):
PC-Cilin: : 11 passes / 7 fails (out of 18 tests, 7 failed or 7/18=39% failed)
Norton: 26 passes / 6 fails (out of 32 tests, 6 failed or 6/32=19%)
BitDefender: 5 passes / 6 fails (55% failed)
Kaspersky: 24 passes / 13 fails (35% failed)
AVG:6 passes / 20 fails (77% failed)
F-Prot:12 passes / 7 fails (37% failed)
NOD32:29 passes / 3 fails (9% failed)
McAfee: : 18 passes / 17 fails (48% failed)
Normon: 25 passes / 11 fails (31% failed)

You can see that NOD32 has the highest 'in the wild' virus detection rate. I switch to NOD few months ago when Norton failed to serve me well after 5 years of using it. Another good news is that NOD is extremely light on system resources (mine using PIII 600) and my PC hang less. You might say I'm a bit bias towards NOD but I tried to show you the real statistics. An Virus Bulletin is an independent site testing on AV periodically. You decide the best AV for you!!!

I can't believe that those crappy Norton AV can have such a low 19% failing rate!!!!!! I downloaded some small programs/ jokes/ games and save it to CDR. After switching to NOD, it detected my CDR contains virus, which was not detected by Norton AV before.
