As far as i know the new idea come when the band on the road. They will start jam whatever riff in their mind in their tuning room in each gig. Riff first, then they improvised the solos and tracking the drum. Lyric and song title always be the last. I'm not musician but this is how Metallica make their record.

no la, drummer can wrote song too like Mike Portnoy and Lars Ulrich. Bassist also can give some nice input about the song and riff. Musician doesnt mean you step in your own territory only. The main riff in All Nightmare Long is actually Robert Trujillo idea and he is bassist. True in metal bassist is more straightfoward but it doesnt mean you just follower or just copy rhythm guitar part. Except if in your band have someone control freak then you might just be a follower. David Ellefson once said "bassist is like glue to the guitar riff and drum beat and drummer is the backbone of the song".

The bass is important in every music genre not only metal. Listen to Steve Harris work in Iron Maiden you will find the answer. What i know is at least it is important at every live concert. In studio album sometime the bassline is not audible enough due to recording and mixing style.

The bass track is not audible even the kick drum also 'click' not 'thud'. Jason is absence when the album was mixed & mastered. Someone suggest it was James & Lars way to bully Jason 'Newkid' at that time although James & Lars never confessed that openly. James said that Jason was simply copied all the rhythm guitar note, so the bass sound buried in the mix. But of course no one will believe that.

maybe because people now prefer pop rock like Nickelback, Green Day, Lady Gaga etc. If you want to make music as your career, never choose metal as your identity because it can't sell well in this century.

Avenged Sevenfold drummer James Sullivan aka The Rev died at 28. I'm never a fan of A7x but his drumming is great.

it's true some statement said that Mustaine not do too much talking with the crowd when on stage performing live concert ? it's because he want to save time or his habit like that?

Added on December 30, 2009, 2:59 pm
i don't know yet about the true story of him? anyway R.I.P

from what i see in Rude Awakening and That One Night he dont talk too much and those concert end pretty fast compare to Live Shit- Metallica. But of course he did some talking to fans sometime like the Endgame tour.

The Rev died because of natural cause. I dont know what are those natural cause but somone which is their ex-roadie said that A7x lifestyle is about partying very heavily. Of course that will include excessive alcohol, drug, cocaine and prescription medicine which contribute to his death.

I ask one of the Slayer fans why their solos sound like bad note and they simply said "it's called chaos and whoever dont like them are sissy".

I usually heard some tracks at their Myspace. Like Slayer and Megadeth you can listen to their full discography on their Myspace but of course the sound is compressed not high quality like in CD. I collect the music by my favourite band because of my constraint budget. There are many subgenre of metal which one do you prefer?

Nu-metal :- Slipknot, Korn
Alternative metal :- System of a Down, Machine Head, Down, Opeth
Symphonic Metal :- Nightwish
Death Metal :- Arch Enemy, Cannibal Corpse, Rotting Christ
Progressive Metal :- Dream Theatre, DragonForce
Industrial Metal :- Rob Zombie
Thrash Metal :- Metallica, Megadeth, Antrax, Slayer
Heavy Metal :- Black Sabbath, Judas Priest
Black Metal :- Gorgoroth, King Diamond, Mercyful Fate, Venom, Immortal
Metalcore :- Bullet For My Valentine, Trivium
Groove Metal :- Suicidal Tendencies, Infectious Groove

thats all i can think. The list are bigger if you + underground and local band.

it give you 'wah' sound. Compare the Kirk wah solo and Dave clean solo you will know. Maybe it is a signal processor. Maybe sometime wah-wah can make sound less complex but you need to have very good skill to timing it with your feet while you hand still picking.

it's not necessary to use wah2 when soloing. Is it make the sound better or not? it is subjective depend on the guitarist and the fans. Kirk Hammett said wah2 is his last resort if he dont have an idea for guitar solo.

But i really like bass solo with wah pedal like Cliff Burton and Jason Newsted. Especially Newsted fast picking style + wah, very crunchy.

well i like this powerman 5000 (hope that wont embarass anyone  sweat.gif ) and start liking static-x (i think cult of static is one kind of sound i like).
i was recommended by some other bands by last.fm like dope and mushroomhead but they dont sound same like static-x ...
so i went through amazon ,pick metal album randomly  and hear sample songs 1 by 1 .... start downloading the song i like thru youtube.

it kinda tiring but fun nevertheless rclxm9.gif

So you'll probably like Rob Zombie. Listen to Living Dead girl, Dragula, American Witch, Sick Bubblegum and What.

Dave Mustaine is one of the founder of thrash metal. I dont agreed if he solely invented thrash.

Friedman usually wirte his own solos in Megadeth but he rarely get credited. I dont understand Megadeth credit style. I dont believe if all songs written solely by Dave Mustaine as stated in the credit. But sometime Dave gave some idea to Marty because he's the main songwriter.

Metallica also have control freak like James and Lars. They both are the main songwriter and composer. Kirk usually got the sharing credit too because he contribute lot to guitar solo. The riff and lyric mainly come from James and Lars make the arrangement. Jason rarely got the chance to give some input as the other members downplayed him. From many stories i read, they think Jason is inferior than Cliff. Jason stated he never felt like a true member in his 15 years stint in Metallica.
But post St. Anger period they share all the writing credits because James and Lars become more open. Robert Trujillo also write the main riff for All Nightmare Long. Btw, Cliff also got plenty credit because all the member of Metallica respect him very much and accept input from him.

i believe it was Jackson King V Double Neck. Mustaine usually use that guitar in song like In My Darkest Hour and Trust in live performance. Notice the upperneck have 12 strings while below is standard 6 strings. I heard 12 strings can produce chorus effect like the riff in Trust. But i'm not sure because i'm suck at guitar.
