After some googling, I found that the problem of frequent connection drop is also present in other laptops using Intel Wireless WiFi Link 5100. Normally the taskbar icon shows connected to the internet, but I can't even access my router, until I press the wireless button to turn it off and on again. I also read something on Intel saying that it is due to incompatibility between the card and older router models. I wonder what can we do about this issue...

You just have to wait for a few weeks to get the service tag registered in their database of eligible systems. Mine required more than a week or two.

Should be in Programs and Features (Add/Remove Programs). If it's not there, download and install again from Dell, it should appear there, and then you may uninstall it.

Hi, for Windows 7 on Studio XPS 16 users out there, do you guys have an option to let the screen dim after the computer is idle for a designated duration in the power options? I used to have that option in my XPS M1530, however couldn't get it on the Studio XPS sad.gif

That's the closest I know of.
Did anyone notice that the two rubber strips (after closing the lid so the screen will not be in contact directly with the keyboard) on each side tend to leave a mark on the edge to edge screen after some time?

I tried to wipe the screen with a cloth but the marks will not go away  sad.gif

Nah, that's far from dimming.... I guess you dun really need a blank screen saver to blank your screen, just set the monitor to auto turn off in the power options.
By right, you should be able to see this option.

Anyway, yeah, the rubber strips do leave a mark on the screen, it can be wiped off, but not easy sad.gif

Reformatting is not as scary as it sounds: you need to start somewhere, and it's best if you try it when you don't have any important files inside your computer, so there's room for screwing up. Furthermore, I think Dell will provide you free technical support under warranty should you encounter any problem during reformatting, after all it's suppose to be a user managable procedure - that's why they provide you the OS and driver discs. The procedure nowadays is pretty straight forward as long as you have a good understanding of English - boot from the OS disc, and follow the instructions. Most of the drivers are in the CD, but better still if you can download from Dell support site, because they are the latest officially certified drivers. If you need the facial recognition software, I've uploaded it somewhere in this thread, you can find it, or PM me. I don't have the webcam software though...

Can this laptop fit into backpacks for 15.4" laptops like the Targus Synergy backpack and the Belkin Slim backpack?

Be it RGB LED or normal LED, you can still get dead pixels.
I'm currently using the WLED 15.6" screen, colour and contrast wise I have no complaints, just that I find that it's a bit small given the size of the laptop. The RGB LED received mixed reviews: some saying that the colour is the nicest they've ever seen, while some saying that it's over saturated.

Might lag if you do not have enough RAM, the minimum requirement is 2GB, otherwise, should be the same. It should not have more problems than the 32 bit version, other than compatibility issues, which seldom occurs.

Yeah, it gets pretty hot after some time, even with normal surfing and downloading, at least much warmer than my previous XPS M1530 with similar configuration. Gaming will cause the touchpad to be scaldingly hot.

Mine is elevated too, but I guess a fan in close proximity would really help biggrin.gif

Based on this document on International Consumer In-Home Service Agreement, you can call for on-site service in any country with Dell Direct.

I don't know how frequently they update their database now, but chances are it might take a week or two before they have your service tag in their database, and prior to that, your registration will not be successful.

Well, Dell has got more 15.4'/15.6' models than 16' models... And the bag was designed way before they introduced the Studio XPS 16.

BTW, I had an old Dell briefcase designed for 15.4" computers, which my Studio XPS 16 was unable to fit inside.

ah, finally, with BIOS A10, the screen dimming option in Windows 7 is enabled.
