It seems that Dell Malaysia is limiting the options for customizing the Studio XPS 1640.
TV Tuner and Blue-Ray player might be gone for good; 9-Cell Battery will only be made available by purchasing a secondary battery and the eagerly awaited ATI HD4670 won't be appearing anytime soon.

do you guys having problem with the fastaccess? mine after updating does not work any more.. the FA tray flashes green and red light now. any solution?
*
If it turns from green (Looking for your face) to red (Face not recognized yet), it means your face is not recognizable; either because of the lightning conditions or just some random hiccups. In all honesty, I find FastAccess a little slow in recognizing faces and sometimes it just refuses to grant you access even though it's your face that's in front of the webcam. Also, if I switch to a different location/place where I use my notebook, FastAccess couldn't recognize my face. I have to login manually using Windows password, a tad more tedious but much faster that way.

Southeast Asia only? I think it's Asia Pacific, which includes Australia.

Edit: Include link - http://www.dell.com/downloads/ap/services/...Agreement/2.pdf
Yes, it's applicable to Asia Pacific; that rules out the UK.

Forgot to mention this: There's an update for FastAccess few days ago that'll bring it up to version 2.3.78; it significantly reduce the startup time for the FastAcess service upon booting up.
You can either update FastAccess manually or let it search for updates automatically.

Guys, i would like to know "16.4" wide (Full HD: 1920 x 1080) TFT colour display (Clear Bright LCD [Rich Colour]) " compare with "16" 1080p WUXGA (1920 x 1080) RGBLED Full HD Display"

What's the different on these both? currently comparing dell sxps 16 with sony vaio VGN-FW46GJ/B ( http://www.sony.com.my/product/vgn-fw46gj ), any suggestion and details of info of this both notebook? If talking bout price here... Sony Vaio will b cheaper lotz...

Thankz
*
The color reproduction for the RGB LED display is better than a TFT panel.
If you're a Photoshop freak or anything to do with accurate color representation then go for the RGB LED display; if you're just want a normal display then take the TFT version.

BTW, can someone please upload the original wallpaper (the one with grayscale leaves)? I'm still looking for it...

Hey sorry for not replying your PM, am I in a legal position to post the stock wallpapers from the notebook? I didn't commit any copyright infringement right?
I'll be happy to upload them here if it's alright to do so.

buy 1-2 months earlier also lucky mar..
Dell will send a techinician to change my board so I can get the 4670 smile.gif

TRCKS:
1) i told them "I bought the laptop for almost 9k and yet Dell cant upgrade my 3670 to a cheap 4670 compared to the 9k that I've spent last month?
May I ask u something? Dell are trying to conned me right? I see, never mind then, Dell just lost a super great customer.
Anyway, this is my hp number ***-*******, please call if u can help or update me."
2) after 1 hour time Dell called me back. they said i can get upgrade but dont know yet whether I need to top up or free.
3) I said "THANK YOU"

I will take some pics when the technician change it tomorrow or sunday or monday. The power of Dell premium warranty tongue.gif hehehe wink.gif

That's good news for everyone of us with the old GPU; it's kinda weird why they didn't charge their customer at a higher price for the new GPU, I guess by getting rid of the TV Tuner and the Blue-Ray players they are able to keep the production cost constant.

i dunno o but quite often my wireless cant connect to internet and i have to disconnect and reconnect it then only can connect to internet again.. i am using os 32bit 5100 d.. maybe only for 5100 got this kind of problem eh..
*
I have no problems with WIFI Link 5100 with Vista 32-Bit, I'm using Windows to manage my WIFI connections by the way; using both Intel program and Windows to manage WIFI might cause conflicts between them.

I never bought a sound card for notebook before, is it something inserted into the notebook's innards?

I went to creative and found a few similar x-fi gadgets..

They all seem to be external add-ons... which one offers the best value for money?

If you're going to get yourself the hardware, it'll definitely sound better than the build-in audio chip; but consider pairing it with a good sound system as well, otherwise might as well stick with the existing sound chip.

the heat come from where?graphic card, processor or hard disk? what is peak temperature u ever encountered?
*
Major heat source is the southbridge/northbridge (forgot which one) chip which is under the touchpad; the hard disk will produce heat as well, but not as much. Heat from the CPU and the GPU are absorbed by the copper heatsink and transfered (heat conduction) to the fan.

hi guys, how much total physical memory are show on your vista ultimate 32bit's task manager? Mine only got 2301MB although I got 4GB RAM installed.
*
If you're in a 32-bit environment, 3066MB is the maximum 'workable' RAM the machine can deal with; it's more like a software limitation, 64-bit on the other hand will be able to use all 4GB's of RAM.
The total physical memory available to Windows is under "Help" -> "About Task Manager", make sure it's around 3,139,528 KB.
If it isn't and you're pretty certain you have 4GB's of RAM installed, maybe you should give Dell a call.

For those of you who wanted the Dell Webcam Central software, try this, it's Creative Labs Dell Webcam Manager version A04; supposedly for the Dell XPS M1530 and XPS M1330.

Not sure if this is similar to the Studio XPS's Webcam Manager/Central.
