~CORE CONTACT FREEZER VS RED SCORPION S1283~

QUAD CORE REVIEW

INTRODUCTION
OK, finally the review for intel quad core is done already icon_rolleyes.gif sorry to have kept u guys waiting too long as we are quite busy this week with our work n studies notworthy.gif

In this review i will compare the Sunbeam Core Contact Freezer with the superb Xigmatek S1283 Red Scorpion using an Intel Core2Quad processor. Other than that, i will also share with u guys bout some of the installation issues of the CCF and compatibility with mobo with tall NB heatsink. The two coolers will be using the same thermal paste for the test setup which will be cleaned and re-applied after the total test with either cooler is done. The test was conducted at bro ham_revilo's home at night in a normal room temperature without aircond. The test was done with the mobo installed into the casing n in a half-naked rig condition. After finish testing with CCF, RS was installed straightaway and the test was continued on the same night to avoid having different ambient temp if it were to be tested some other days. As for the temp reading, core temp 0.99.3 was used as it is the corrected version for 45nm procs with tjmax set to 100 while the realtemp 2.70 was set to tjmax 100 manually.

The test was ran by stressing it with Intel Burn Test as we thought we wana try to push the cooler to the max and see how good it can take the heat from a heavily stressed quad core processor. The Intel Burn Test was said to be up to 22c hotter than prime95 on load sweat.gif u guys can refer to the link provided by bro ham_revilo for more information thumbup.gif

OK, so lets roll on to the review without wasting time already (cos i dont have idea on what else to explain liao doh.gif laugh.gif)

ohya btw, i apologise if some of the picture quality is not good cos my camera ran out of battery halfway n i was forced to use a handphone camera sweat.gif

INSTALLATION ISSUES
First of all, here is the picture of the mobo. As u guys can see, the NB heatsink is quite tall n the cpu socket are surrounded by two mosfet heatsink.
user posted image

During the installation, i tried to mount the CCF in a way that it exhaust rearwards of the casing. But due to the big bracket n the shape of the bracket which is oval, the bracket cant be installed in that manner as it was blocked by the right mosfet sink. U will understand more when u refer to the picture. So, i tried to install it the other way around which will make the cpu cooler exhaust upwards to the casing and this time the bracket will still come into contact with the same mosfet sink again. But it was not as bad n i am still able to fit it down by just pushing the mosfet sink to the side a lil.

This is the pictures showing the bracket installed in a position that will install the CCF exhaust upwards to the casing. The one that failed is the attempt to install the bracket in a position that will make CCF exhaust rearwards of the casing. The oval shape is sharper towards the hook in the 12 o'clock n 6 o'clock position respectively. So i guess u can imagine how its not gonna work if it were installed the other way round than the one showed in pictures wink.gif

Another issue due to my way of installing the bracket is this. Apparently, i cannot fully push the out handle of the cpu socket locking plate cos it was blocked by the bracket already. But dont worry as this is solve-able, u only need to open up the cpu socket locking plate first before fitting the bracket to the mobo if u happen to install ur bracket like the way i did. But to those who are installing bracket it in a normal manner, that wont be an issue.

Next up, finally some pleasing news liao laugh.gif
Users have always asked whether this cooler will come into contact with the NB sink that is slightly taller like the case that happened to cooler such as S1283. The answer is no. As u can see from the picture below, using the fan as reference point, there are still slight clearance between the NB n the bottom fins of the CCF. So, u will most likely be able install it to exhaust rearwards eventho ur NB is slightly taller if u have no bracket issue.
user posted image user posted image

Unlike the case with s1283 which will hit the NB sink n needed to bend 3 lower fins if it were to be installed in exhaust rearwards position sweat.gif (pictar stolen from mr.vearn27's post in buy club V2 tongue.gif)

OK, users also will be asking if this push pin will be able to provide enuf contact for the cooler and i will say yes. No doubt SS kit will give u the strongest contact, but this push pin is not bad too n the CCF is quite firm when installed. And i can actually lift the mobo up by just lifting the cpu cooler.

RESULTS

IDLE
user posted image

LOAD
user posted image

CONCLUSION
As u guys can see, the results were all pretty close call. On idle, RS is always lower than the CCF. But once it comes on load, CCF is generally lower by 1-3 degree celcius and this is not bad at all considering it has got no SS kit. It might have been the case of the fan too, as CCF has got a stock fan that can produce 90 cfm at will brows.gif while RS ones is only rated at 60 cfm.

From this review, i think that both cooler were great to be able to withstand the Intel Burn Test up to 3.6ghz up to 1.425v n yet maintaining the temp to around 70-75 only. Do bear in mind this is done in an non air-conditioned environment brows.gif

Credits will have to be given to Xigmatek Red Scorpion too as it is smaller in overall size with lower cfm fan and yet still provides a close challenge to the Core-Contact Freezer. But this Xigmatek Red Scorpion do have the advantage of SS kit n complete coverage surface with IHS when the heatsink is installed tho compared to Core Contact Freezer which only have 2 pipes covered in the center and 1/2 pipe on each of the sides.

As for Core Contact Freezer i must say the installation needs patience to do it. Following the way that bro ham_revilo installed, it wud be easier in my opinion instead of following the manual book as the cooler might get really hard to be hooked to the bracket under that condition. If only SunbeamTech could come up with an improved version of installation device, this cooler would be flawless. One thing i like about this Core Contact Freezer is that it uses fan clip n there is no more hassle when installing and removing the anti-vibration rubber anymore. Other than that, the bundle for this cooler is pretty good as well as its come with a FULL bottle of tuniq tx2, a high performance fan and a fan controller which u dont find in any other cooler.

PROS
-good bundle
-superb performance for its price
-uses fan clip which is easy for removal n installation
-tall enuf to clear those high heatsink around the cpu socket
-can be installed without removing mobo
-fan controller provided to adjust for desired cfm n noise level

CONS
-possibility of bracket clashing with heatsinks around cpu socket
-installation n removal of the bracket is not really easy

PLS NOTIFY ME VIA PM IF THERE ARE ANY MISTAKES OR NOOBNESS OF MINE notworthy.gif

I WUD ALSO LIKE TO SAY THANKS A LOT TO BRO HAM_REVILO AND BRO ALIVE88 FOR HELPING ME OUT IN THIS REVIEW notworthy.gif

but what i read from another forummer saying its near to impossible to mount the hsf without removing the board from casing  hmm.gif
somehow i'm a bit phobia to clip type edi after my friend's BT VX's mounting giving trouble  rclxub.gif
*
ok bro...just tried just now....

i am quite sure this cooler will fit perfectly on ur mobo no problems altho the heatsink for nb is a lil bit tall, but actually the fins of this cooler is kinda slightly bent upwards at the bottom....

just checked the clearance, it will be touching but still it is mountable.... but it will surely come into no clashing with whatever things if it is mounted to exhaust upwards the casing instead of conventional rearwards exhaust....

but for those mobo with mosfet cooler fitted..they might be able to fit only with exhaust upwards setup....

as the retention bracket is oval in shape, it might come into blocking with the mosfet cooler...i will explain more with pictar when updating my review post smile.gif

This sunbeam is good for those want a quiet setup. I manage to run stable at 3.33ghz fanless and the temp is quite reasonable during IBT which is 80+.
*
results for 3.6ghz 1.425vcore during IBT with fan coming soon brows.gif

ill try to do that when my fren would let me borrow his achilles laugh.gif
but no doubt that it will perform as good or maybe even better than CCF

but achilles wont be as good if installed in INTEL platform tongue.gif brows.gif

n iirc xigmatek product don really scale that well with high CFM

hmm...not sure bro... i guess u might have to do a meaurement of ur mosfet cooler height... make sure its lower than 4.5cm....

definitely yes bro flex.gif

Looks very heavy. BTW, are all mobo build the same? Such as expensive mobo use more PCB layers thus tougher and able to hold heavier heatsink.
*
lol...nola..... pcb layers is not about holding cpu heatsink.......

all mobo can hold heatsink....

hi all,

for my processor xeon 3320, the idle temp is around 50 degree celcius without any overclocking. dunno wat i did wrong... any advice?
*
dont worry bro..... its normal for quaddies to get that temp on idle..... more likely if u are in non-aircondioned environment....refer to this thread if u want thumbup.gif
