AS demand for affordable middle to high-performance DVD players goes up, Sharp has joined the fray with a new upscaling DVD player. At RM399 with a free high-definition multimedia interface cable thrown in, the new DV- SL2200W can upscale to 480p, 720p or 1,080p, so it can match any digital display in the market.

To ensure seamless de-interlacing and upscaling, the model uses a video processing chip from Faroudja.

On top of its upscaling capability, the DV-SL2200W is compatible with DivX-encoded DVDs and comes with a universal serial bus slot for playback of digitally recorded photo stills.

According to Sharp, the DV-SL2200W is aimed at videophiles looking for an inexpensive means to improve DVD playback on their digital display system. The model is also ideal for videophiles who want to enhance the lifespan of their Blu-ray disc player by including in their system a high- performance but affordable DVD player specifically for DVD playback.
