I managed to get Q9550 with abit ip35-e to 3.40 Ghz stable with Intel burn test,OCCT, S&M and Everest. Still not tried Prime 95 because of limited time availability of me. Fsb:Ram is 400:400. The only thing that I increase are cpu Vcore = 1.35, Ram to 1.85V, CPU VTT = 1.27xxx, and GTLref = 67.0%. From what I read, Abit IP35-e can go to 460Mhz without increasing MCH voltage.

the vcore quite high.. can't reduce it?
*
I reduced it to 1.33. I want to ask something, if my system (on Windows) suddenly freeze, does it mean that my system not stable enough? Previously I put the vcore 1.31 and my system only managed to survive for about 12 hours, then freeze.

Added on January 10, 2010, 2:52 pmOk, I think it is very hard to go past 3.2Ghz and make it stable using stock cooler. I reduced the multiplier to 7.5 for 3.0 Ghz. Current vcore is 1.29v

did u stress it?? prime95 is the way to go~

I think i know who is the culprit. It is EIST. I disable it for now. I enable auto C1e for now so my cpu will consume less power when idle. Let see what happen. http://www.anandtech.com/cpuchipsets/showdoc.aspx?i=2725.

The only way to test this is by making computer idle for a while and then quickly start using it.

Added on January 10, 2010, 6:18 pmUhh, I read previous posts and some of them can oc 3.4ghz with stock voltage. Am I unlucky here? sleep.gif
Any budget cpu cooler suggestion?

It could be your motherboard. My Q9450 can go 3.2Ghz at 1.175v for Asus P5Q Deluxe motherboard. For DFI DK P45-T2RS, I have to use 400/400 and this setting:

Voltage Settings
CPU VID Special Add……+12.5mV
DRAM Voltage Control……2.000V
SB Core/CPU PLL Voltage……1.55V
NB Core Voltage……1.25V
CPU VTT Voltage……1.18V
Vcore Droop Control……Enabled
Clockgen Voltage Control……3.45V
CPU GTL 0/2 REF Volt……0.67x
CPU GTL 1/3 REF Volt……0.67x
North Bridge GTL Ref Volt……0.63x
*
I am thinking that my motherboard is not capable enough for overclocking q9550. I will try this weekend by increasing all voltage except SB to 1.3x. Maybe I should increase SB to 1.55. It seems that after I disable C1E and EIST, the freezing issue is still not solved. The way i tested it is by downloading a file then go back to login screen by pressing switch user.

The quality of the motherboard affects overclocking. What is your full spec including the power supply?

Q9550
Abit IP35-e
1 stick Apacer 2GB DDR2 800 @5-5-5-15 //I don't know how to play with ram timing so i leave it auto
Enermax Liberty 500W
Nvidia 9600gt

I think that's it

Finally I am thinking that my system is stable for now:
CPU VCore = 1.3350v
DDR2 Voltage = 1.85v
CPU VTT = 1.275
MCH = 1.330 from 1.250
GTLREF = 67.0%

And Windows Xp doesn't need more than 2 GB ram i think smile.gif
