I have some questions and I hope I'm in the right thread. I'm considering getting either a D40 or a D60 but I'm not sure if either of them will work with the one and only AF lens that i have- an old Tamron 28-200 3.8-5.6 LD (IF). I know if I'm getting one of those cameras I'll get it with the kit lens, but if it works with my old lens, it will be an added bonus. Do you guys have any idea? I believe the lens is more than 10 years old. It's given to me by my uncle. I don't care if it will autofocus or not. I just need to know whether or not it will meter with it. Thanks. Here are some pics of the lens: This post has been edited by avantgardeo: Oct 6 2008, 11:54 PM

I've been googling it and the only result that comes close is a forum thread from years ago about someone asking if the lens works on the D70. I think this lens is just too old for the internet generation to have seen it. From the thread I found out that these lenses may work on these DX format cameras but the zoom length will be increased by some distance. They will work fine with full-framed cameras though.
I guess I just have to test it out with a live unit. Thanks for the replies.

Have any of you tried using your D40/x/60 with film-era AF lenses(Nikkor or Third-party)?

Greetings D40/x/60 users! I just got myself a D40 last weekend , but haven't got the time to do some serious shooting with it yet. All I've done is taking random shots to see how the camera works with my old lenses. Couldn't resist doing this though (description on the photo page): Hopefully I'll find some time to take some nice shots and share them here

I have some questions for D40 users:
What flashlight do you use? Have you encountered any problems when using non-Nikon flashguns (well the manual warns of voltage irregularities etc)?
I'm wondering if I need to get a safe voltage adapter or something if I'm going to use my old Metz Mecablitz 28C-2.

QUOTE(Futura @ Nov 12 2008, 01:44 AM) Guys, I'm torn b/w D40 & D60..pls advise as I'm new to dslr Thinking of getting the D40 body then a lens that slightly better than standard kit..pls recommend the lens as well.. I say get the D40 and spend the few hundred on a lens or a flashgun or other useful accessories. The difference between the two in terms of photographic performance is really not much. If you can get a D40 with kit lens for RM1.7K or less (and I suppose you can give you really look around), then can get it together with a Tamron 80-210mm f4.5 and it will all come up to around 2K, which is the price of a D60 kit. And now, a candid shot... Flickr pageThis post has been edited by avantgardeo: Nov 12 2008, 11:18 AM
