Normal DVD movies are encoded in NTSC (720x480) compared to HD file that came in 1280x720 for 720p class.
Personally for my eyes rating, i would say 1080p file score 100/100, 720p file score 90/100 and DVD Ori (VOB) file score would be about 80/100 for the same title.

QUOTE(ar188 @ Feb 2 2009, 01:58 PM) 80/100 for DVD is too generous.. should be 50-60/100 subjectively (for me) if count pixel information it will be 5-6times lower than 1080p... of coz, depends on what kind of TV you got.. if you got 854x480 early Gen PDPs then not much diff between DVD and HD 720/1080. since the screen can't display all the information from the source.. if you got 1080p projector blown up the 120inches screen. then DVDs will look kinda of sucky even if sitting 6-7feet away.. Agreed! Mine judgment is based on my 40" Bravia LCD playback. I too might change my scores if I have a bigger LCD or HD Projector
