i always quit lbp after there is no icons on the lower left of the screen anymore. if i quit it when the system is saving (running sackboy) or communicating with the server (globe icon), the ps3 will restart and have the beep beep thing. quitting it while the system is saving might also contribute to corrupted saves.

wanna if i'm doing the proxy server...
i must do both PC & PS3 in conflict IP? rclxub.gif

cuz wanna update the game patch like PAIN..
*
for best results, those devices must be in same subnet (eg. both ip are in 192.168. or both in 169.254.)
both ip must be unique
in the proxy program, just use the 0.0.0.0 because it will automatically use the pc's ip
and put the pc's ip (not 0.0.0.0) into the ps3 setting (the use proxy server part)

Firmware 2.20, Mar 25, 2008, Blu-ray Disc Profile 2.0 support, DivX subtitles, BD-R version 1.2 discs

PIP support is mandatory since Bluray profile 1.1. i personally dont have any pip-featured bd movies atm to test it for you.

you shouldve asked in this thread: http://forum.lowyat.net/topic/895616/+1080 smile.gif

1a) some games require installation and some dont. normally hundreds of mb to 1-2gb per game.

1b) game updates (bug fixes, extra content)

1c) downloadable games via ps network (includes games demo)

1d) game saves

1e) media storage (movies, music, photo)

2) can upgrade without voiding warranty. 1 ps3 can only have 1 hdd. so the old hdd must be replaced with new during the upgrading.

all of them are made in china laugh.gif

some 3rd party shops can send you the unit to sg for warranty. however you must pay for the shipping etc. i'd say just skip the hassle and get a malaysian unit.

It is not normal games software company to put PS3 firmware onto their disc and force user to upgrade.
The reason why is because of a liability issue, hence they don't do it. The game could display the requirement for you, in order to run this game, you are recommended to upgrade but the upgrade process is outside of the game installation.

Are you sure your PS3 wasn't connected to the net when you pop in your disc?  Sometimes, auto update
via net (esp. wireless) and if you don't have a stable connection, any kind of disruption could mess up your firmware installation. Best way to upgrade is to download the latest firmware from your PC, use your thumb drive and upgrade from there.

Btw, as of Jan 28th, the latest official firmware is 2.6, not 2.7
You didn't get any of those unofficial hacked firmware... did you?  smile.gif
*
it is perfectly normal. many users wont be prompted to update via discs because they are up-to-date enough to update through the net 1-2 days after the latest update is on-line.

I would certainly disagree with that because I know tons of PS3 owners out there who has never connected their PS3 to the Internet (yeah..no PSN, no BD live).

I think it is very unlikely games companies put PS3 firmware on their disc (other than their own software patches). If they did, this could be a problem for the owners because of the following reasons:

a) Firmware on bundled disc gets outdated by the time it reaches consumer.

b) Games companies most of time are clueless on the effect of the firmware on owners' hardware. Only Sony is fully aware of any side effect because that's their software.

c) Firmware could be different for different regions/languages - how does game co know which is which?

d) I doubt Sony would license their firmware to be distributed by 3rd party other than their own game company: SCE.

The firmware distribution is Sony responsibility, not the 3rd party game cos responsibility. However, they can certainly state the minimum firmware requirement needed for the game to run, ultimately, it needs be owners responsibility to click and download the latest firmware from the net.
*
a) if it is outdated, what is the problem? they bundled the firmware in the disc according to the game's requirements (corresponding to the version of sdk/functionality used), not necessarily the latest. of course, some of the firmware check can be bypassed using rfom & f1:ce disc swap trick. but do it at your own risk/discretion.

b) how can a game company guarantees a game would run on any outdated system (or clueless consumer who dont have intertubes)? sony requires them to ship the firmware with the disc. show me a game prompting an error that the game disc wouldnt run because of an outdated system, AND asks you to download it yourself from the internet.

c) as a person who keeps track of sony firmware md5 hashes since the psp days, your point is moot. all firmware are region-free (psp & ps3).

http://forums.maxconsole.net/showthread.php?p=898479
http://www.eurasia.nu/modules.php?op=modlo...orum=87&start=0

d) did you ever have a psp? how many 3rd party publishers bundled a firmware required to run their umd games?
answer = ALL

check any ps3 game disc using any pc with bd drive (or ps3 in linux mode) and you'll see firmware bundled in those games disc.

well, if you can show me some proof to refute my bolded point, i'll gladly admit that my info was wrong. but it is how it was done since psp, so i'd assume its the same on ps3.

my streamyx line is down and i wan use celcom broadband which i wan to use to connect my ps3 to internet.
i only hav normal wireless router and windows xp desktop.
so can i connect the celcom to the desktop den connect ps3 to the wireless router to share the connection?
*
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/306126

in ics mode, your desktop ip will automatically be changed into 192.168.0.1. in the ps3 ip settings, make sure the gateway is set to your desktop's ip (192.168.0.1). and change the wireless router ip into something other than 192.168.0.1 (if it is currently using that ip).

i successfully used similar setup on celcom hsdpa usb modem -> vista desktop -> ethernet cable -> linksys wag200g -> wifi to ps3

yup.. cannot. send/receive msg/add friend is feasible. downloading demo didnt work for me; big downloads (hundreds of MB) got corrupted and unable to install.

i bolded that part because it never saw such thing happened before.

you are right about the disclaimer. they have always say that do not update from other region to cover their asses. nevertheless, the md5 hashes doesnt lie. and of course i cant prove the agreement/source that the pubs MUST bundle firmware with all discs. but your "I doubt Sony would license their firmware to be distributed by 3rd party other than their own game company: SCE" is already be refuted because apparently from the previous page, WE2009 has it in the disc, and all umd games has it. i wish i still have a stone-age ps3 and insert all my game disc one by one to check for the prompt to update. too bad i have the habit of upgrading on every day-1 of new fw release.

my linux partition on ps3 is already lost when upgrading to new hdd last year. will post a screen whenever i reinstalled back linux on my machine in my next hdd upgrade. quite lazy to repartition and to lose hundreds of GB of media in the process. but i will surely get back to this matter.

Herm, interesting, as you put it, if that is true, it is counterintuitive. Come to think of it, how does firmware update works with downloadable games from PSN?
*
i did a search earlier today. some ppl uncompiled the lair & warhawk .pkg contents from PSN (not sure demo or full game). both of them contain their required firmware. i'll find the source in a moment.

only partial installation for disc-based games

if your tv has a 3.5mm-out, use it.

if not, use the adapter above. red & white comes from the ps3 (composite/component), plug the 3.5mm jack from headphone into the black port.

the single-speaker headset that you saw is probably a bluetooth headset. it can only function as communication device. cannot be used to output game/audio sound
