Anybody know what's the price of Synchrony One B? How would you describe the sound?

QUOTE(augustinesoh @ Mar 7 2016, 10:37 AM) PSB has discontinued the Synchrony line for some time now. Replaced by the Imagine line, although I don't think there is a direct successor to the One Bs (it might be the Imagine B bookshelf, but I'm not sure...). How the PSB Imaging line sound? A & L Audio lists a (last) pair of Synchrony Two Bs for sale on their e-shop page - here. Or you might try contacting the current PSB distributor in Malaysia - Danny of D & A Analogue at 012-7213983 to see if he can help. I recently purchased a pair of Imagine Bs from him. Good luck! |

QUOTE(augustinesoh @ Mar 7 2016, 12:30 PM) I only recently took delivery of the Bs and literally just set them up over the weekend. So it may be too early to give a proper evaluation. I read a lot of good things about PSB Alpha B1, except that the Alpha B1 may lack deep bass consider it's size. I would assume it sound a bit on clean and neutral side, without any color, which may sound a bit thin and lack of special character? A bit thin on treble but very airy and detailed high? Neutral mid and most probably soft bass at some freq.?I did have them set up briefly as my fronts (L & R) in a 2-channel and 2.1 channel configuration and listened to them for a couple of hours on Saturday. Not serious critical listening mind you. For one, their placement was not ideal and I did not really experiment (just plonked them on top of my TV console/cabinet, no speaker stands). Just put on some of my favourite discs and enjoyed the music... My initial impressions: What I heard was very good - if I recall correctly, they were clean and articulate in the mid-range, with pretty decent low-end for bookshelves (compared to my old PSB Alpha B1s). A bit bright on the treble (but maybe because they were brand new and hadn't been properly broken in yet - I don't know). If you are seriously considering getting a pair, I would highly recommend an audition. Listen to them for yourself and see if you like what you hear. |

QUOTE(augustinesoh @ Mar 7 2016, 01:39 PM) The Alpha B1s were part of my first purchase of 'Hi Fi' speakers many years ago. I have been using them as my surrounds in a 5.1 system since the beginning and so haven't really properly evaluated them as main speakers. From experience, would agree with you on them being 'clean and neutral, without colour'. I got a Wharfedale 435, it sound neutral, detailed and airy high, very clean and uncolor sound, I think the metal tweeters also look the same as PSB speakers, with a plastic grill on it, it sing pretty superb if pair with some little bit warm or rolled off amp, and fantastic if drive via full blown amp like Class D, a bit bright if open a bit loud, the bass is very subjective to music recording being played back, one common problem could be the tweeter 'S' kinda sound can be a bit disturb to ears, like lean thin sharp object slicing thing kinda feel, hmm I think I still prefer speakers with a bit of color but not too much like Wharfedale Diamond 9.1, most people think that the 9.1 is warm speakers, indeed it is not, it's kinda a bit sparkling on the treble but not bright, and not very smooth either, so for some old recording, percussion & string music, it can sound a bit edgy to some people, but I feel that it's ok for me, that the boundary to achieve some excitements on treble, it just right and does not cross border, currently hunting 9.1 similar treble but with better bass speakers, it seem PSB will not suit me then Noticed that you own Wharfedales (have read good things about them, btw). If by 'special character' you are thinking of the signature warm British sound, then I would also agree that they don't have that as well. I have not heard Wharfedales but have auditioned KEF, Mordaunt Short and Monitor Audio before. I have always been taken by how these sound at first blush and part of me likes the character that they impart to my music, but ultimately I find that I much prefer my music to be more neutral, accurate. They are all very nice speakers, just not to my taste I guess. |

QUOTE(sonerin @ Mar 7 2016, 05:36 PM) Yay, end of search for my KL small room, but not my hometown room haha, I've heard the Diamond 9.6, the treble is way too harsh, totally cannot compare to 9.1, I think I'll hunt something like ProAc old speakers, all other Diamond 9 speakers other than the special 9.1 limited edition are not of real wood veneer. |
