The cone should be all right as long you don't directly place the vacuum cleaner on the cone and pull it out. Using dry wiping method should be fine I guess. I think should also be careful not to poke the rubber gaskets on the side of the cone.

PSB Imagine Minis

Have not seen/heard them in person before but considering for desktop/pc setup with my old yamaha 665. Prolly need a small subseries 1 for lfe. Any other suggestions? KEF3005.1 and B&W Mini Theatre, but both quite expensive in comparison I guess.

Am currently on Image B6 front, Alpha C5 centre and Klipsch sub, hooked up to a basic entry Yamaha RX-V465 AV receiver.

What would be a good upgrade for receiver? Was thinking of getting a used unit that was mid-high range, with HDMI.

Saw a Denon 3310 (when new was RM4k) now going for RM2k+, but output is 165W and Image B6 output only 150W. Will it be damaging?

And saw a Yamaha RX-V1800 about RM2k+ also, 130W output.

Was recommended a NAD T748, but looks underpowered.

Budget about RM2k. Would appreciate some options from friends here...

tbcheese, I didn't get the Image center speaker but instead its an Alpha centre (that time budget not enough). Actually its C1, not C5. Typo.
Needed the upgrade coz I felt the RX-V465 isn't driving the Image speakers enough. Meaning not enough power. Unfortunately can't advise the sound because its my 1st unit and no prior setup experience.

wkang, was thinking about the A820 Aventage but budget about RM2k+ for used 3-4 years unit. Thus V1800 looked like a good deal.
So what did you think about the difference in sound, space, depth when running from Yamaha A820 and NAD T748? Have not auditioned either but would like to hear some comments.

I completed an audition with respect to the T748 and the A1020 ... the A820 had been sold, and was no longer available, so I chose to audition against the A1020, as a frame of reference.

Since this is a PSB speaker thread, the front speakers used were Image T6s, and Image B6s for the rear, center was also a PSB, but not Image series, and really looks high end, not sure if it was the Synchrony.  Subwoofer was a PSB SubSeries 300.

Overall, the T748's sound has more weight, and actually sounds louder than the A1020.  The sound was "warmer", and had more punch.

The good thing about the A1020 was the very good surround steering, the way the A1020 steered the sound effects from one corner to the diagonally opposite corner was really good, but the sound was a bit thin, and not as exciting as the T748.  For watching movies, I prefer a more dynamic sound.

The fact that the A1020 was about 1.5x more expensive than the T748, and the fact that I did not need the features present in the A1020, resulted in me putting my money down for the T748.  I have a HTPC, which takes care of all the "smart" stuff.

I heard the A820 is sometimes selected over the T748 due to connectivity to the internet and Apple devices.

I listened to stereo on the T748, and the sound is good, but not as good as dedicated hi-fi (would not expect it to, or maybe it was the fact that a BluRay player was used as source).

Tbcheese, my speakers are Wharfedale Diamond 8.3 fronts, Diamond 8 Center, and Diamond DFS surrounds. No sub.

Yes, the A820 and A1020 both have YPAO RSC, I expect to be much better for room matching compared to T748. I suspect this is one of the many possible reasons the surround effects were better for the A1020 during the audition.  However, I preferred the better sound of the T748 over the better surround steering of the A1020, so I made my choice based on that.

The difference in sound is not night and day. Listened on its own, each AV receiver would be great.

Latest updates to my setup. Added a second subseries 300 to the all PSB frontstage.

I recently purchased a Yamaha AVR, the RX-A740.
I'm thinking of upgrading my speakers, was wondering if the Image T6 was still worth looking at?
It's been discontinued.
A&L Audio are having a sale on the T6 (though only in cherry).

For around the same price, I'm also looking at a Wharfedale Diamond 157.

Would appreciate any comments, I am fairly new at this.
I listen to music mostly.

Actually I have already 'pulled the trigger', so to speak  . There are currently 5 unopened boxes waiting for me in my back room.

Got myself the Imagine Ts, Bs and C (to replace my current 5.1 setup). Not quite in the same league as yours, of course!

Looks like I have got myself a ‘project’ to look forward to this weekend! 

I’ve been happy with the service from Danny of D & A so far. Friendly and patient. Went over to Perfect HiFi at IOI Mall Puchong to audition the Imagines over the course of two weekends. Spending several hours there each time. Attended to by Danny both times (assisted by Scott from Perfect HiFi).

I auditioned the NADs on my second visit (paired with the Imagine Ts) and I must say I was fairly impressed with the sound from the NAD 326, 516 and PSB combo. Very clean and detailed. But I have deferred a decision on the NADs for now. Planning to evaluate my new Imagines to see what sort of improvement they bring to my existing system first.

You are absolutely right. I too am just trying to enjoy my HT/HiFi experience based on a (more or less  ) set budget.

My setup is nothing extraordinary or expensive. Back when I first dove into this 'hobby' in 2008, I more or less upgraded from a Sony HTIB to my current (and soon to be replaced) system, which consists of an Onkyo TX-SR805 AVR and the aforementioned 5.1 speaker setup (PSB Image T45 fronts, Alpha C1 center and Alpha B1 surrounds). I originally had the Velodyne Impact 12 subwoofer as the .1 (bought from A & L) but traded up for the Velodyne CHT-12Q after 2-3 months.

This is the setup I've been using these past 8+ years and although I've been tempted many times in the past I've managed to resist the upgrade-itis that seems to afflict so many on these esteemed forums. At least that is, until recently.

Back in January, I upgraded my Onkyo AVR to a Marantz SR7010. And will (very) soon be replacing my 5.0 speakers with my new Imagines.

That's about it, really.

Heheh, I remember auditioning Jamos back in 2008 in Harvey Norman. Still remember they were my first experience listening to front speakers with built-in passive woofers out the side...

Yup, the CHT-12Qs will be the only one to survive from the original setup.

My 12Q also died some time last year. Some Googling and a couple of SMSes/phone calls led me to a gentleman named Chan who specialises in HiFi equipment repairs and especially Velodyne subwoofers. The repair cost me about RM400 but now my sub is back in business and sounding better than ever. While I was over at his workshop there was a DD-18 there that he had just repaired for another customer. All I can say is 'wow'... 

So if your Velo is ever in need of repair again let me know and I will be happy to put you in touch with him.
