"Huge Japanese electronics store sells out of Xbox 360s"

Yodobashi Camera is probably one of the largest electronics stores in the world, not just in Tokyo. Recently a visitor to the spotted something truly amazing - the Xbox 360 was ALL sold out. In addition to this Amazon Japan was all sold out of Xbox 360s, seems like Tales of Vesperia has caught the imagination of the gamers of Japan!

With Tales of Vesperia launching in Japan pushing 360 sales ten fold and the announcement of Final Fantasy 13 coming to the 360, things are looking really good in the land of the rising sun for Microsoft.

I guess Sony's failure to secure exclusive for the PS3 will eventually cost them dearly in the future. In fact the launch of Soul Calibur which sold more copies on the 360 is a sign Sony is no more the leader in the next generation war. And if the 360 momentum continues, Sony will end up playing catchup all the way instead of leading the way.

Looks like xbox360 really making progress in Japan now!!

Tales of Vesperia solely will have a big impact in the Xbox360 sales in Japan.
And till the numbers come in, the largest Xbox 360 Akihabara Store has already sold out their stock of Xbox 360 (all versions).

Its not about this month or next month. When someone pick up a 360, chances are they will buy more games in future and then they will enjoy some of the best games on the 360. Then they will recommend it to friends and so on. Its like a train....when you got the momentum going its hard to stop it!!! That is why Microsoft have been investing heavily on exclusive and it pays off.

Sony on the other hand is losing all the exclusive that makes PS2 such a success. That is why PS3 is still playing catching up till now.

PS3 should have disabled the protection (under the table...hush2) then people can pirate and the sale will grow. >:]

This thread is not about piracy on the PS3 to boost PS3 sales!!! Its about which console has more Japanese RPG. It seems like Sony can't even beat the 360 in their home turf in jrpg. And the are also losing in terms of western rpg.

The PS3 definitely loses to the 360 in terms of quantity but it will never lose in terms of quality.

Versus XIII, Valkyria Chronicles, White Knight Chronicles and Disgaea 3 are still exclusive to the PS3.
Comparing to 360's exclusive, there's Tales of Vesperia, Star Ocean: The Last Hope and Infinite Undiscovery.

We'll see which of these games will have better scores in reviews.

Personally I would want every single JRPG to be on one single platform so that I don't have to buy both.

The recent announcement by Square-Enix that Final Fantasy XIII would remain a Playstation 3 exclusive in Japan marks the death of the Xbox 360 in the Land of the Rising Sun. Even more startling is that Square managed to announce this at Micosoft’s own press conference, only confirming Square’s commitment to the Playstation 3 brand and its desire to see the Xbox 360 flounder.

On a related note, the massive development costs for the Final Fantasy XIII project have forced Square to announce an inferior Xbox 360 port in North America and Europe. Spanning 6 DVDs, Final Fantasy XIII will release on the Xbox 360 but only because Sony doesn’t care about the franchise enough to subsidize its enormous development costs.

As always, in the end Sony wins and Microsoft loses. Tomorrow, it begins.

Forza 3 is scheduled to appear sometime next year, but unfortunately it will be appearing on 2 discs. It’s going to be fun listening to the horde of Xbox fanatics that will justify switching discs mid-way through a race.

Perhaps someone should have notified Microsoft that they should be progressive with their design by implementing an industry standard Blu-Ray drive with the Xbox 360 instead of the archaic DVD standard they embraced for their premature next-gen system.

I think Yus responded in such manner because the TS is famous in PS section moaning and complaining about PS3's unhackable feature. He is too cheap to buy games. A cheap skate I might add.

Here's a little inspiration for your next article:
Gears of War vs Uncharted. Both great games with good graphics. Both scored very high among critics and fans alike. Both are third person shooters. Both were big budget exclusives. Now that's a logical comparison.

Fact is, both consoles have much to offer. No one can say for certain that the PS3 is better than the 360 or vice versa. Another funny thing is, people keep saying 2008 is the year of the PS3. Oh really? Take a look at the charts again man, it's Nintendo's year! It's Nintendo's generation.

PS3 exclusives better than 360 exclusives? Compare each and every one of em. Are they all from the same genre? NO! These sort of comparisons are void. Both consoles have great exclusives.

And that story about FF13 being on 6 discs? Don't be ridiculous. Do you even know anything about developing games or even simple data? Games can be compressed. It's up to the developers to determine how much compression they need without compromising end product quality. A more likely disc number for the Xbox 360 version is 3.
Oh yea, one more thing. Square-Enix wants 360 to die in Japan? Do you even play or even read about other games or is it just Final Fantasy with you? Reality Check! Tales of Vesperia and Star Ocean 4 are 360 exclusives (for now). Both are big JRPG franchises in Japan which can push the 360 sales in Japan.

dude, i think TS have a lot of time bragging about M$ are gonna rule the JRPG industry but little did he know that most JRPG games are most common in PS2, and still JRPG games are coming in PS2 ! i got a japanese friend living in osaka now, and he still playing his Ps2 to play JRPG games. oh wait, how many JRPG game developer that sony have to secure? i think TS only concern about the JRPG in PS3 but not for PSP and PS2.

Speaking during the QuakeCon keynote, id Software’s John Carmack has revealed that the Xbox 360’s DVD format could result in the developer’s upcoming game, Rage, being compromised on the platform.

According to Shacknews Carmack noted three DVDs will be needed for the Xbox 360 version, although royalty fees to include a third disc would rule out this option. Unless Microsoft makes a concession, id will be forced to release the game on two DVDs with heavy compression, thus making the game look worse than the PS3 version.

This was known since 2005 when it was revealed that the Playstation 3 would include the revolutionary Blu-Ray drive while Microsoft’s Xbox 360 was sticking to the vastly outdated DVD media. We’re already seeing games like Uncharted, Metal Gear Solid 4, and others look a generation apart from 360 exclusives, and we’re glad to see Carmack agree that the inclusion of Blu-Ray was a great choice and great for gamers.

I'm not even gonna comment on the 'Xbot' title cause I am a proud owner of a PS2, NDS, 360 and soon a PS3 (consoles which no longer function not listed here).

Now for my reply to your post:
Did you read Carmack's follow-up interview? He clearly states that the KEY PARTS of the game will not be affected by the compression. So that means, both versions will look, for the most part, identical. Don't even try to start your next post by saying it will still look worse, cause it won't, and we have Carmack's confirmation as proof.

Now if you want to talk about the Carmack's interview, why don't you tell everyone here as well what he said about the superiority of the Xbox 360's technical hardware over the PS3's. Sure, it uses DVD9's which are much smaller in capacity when compared to the BD discs, but tell me, are you really that lazy to get your butt off the couch to swap a disc? And no, disc-swapping will not happen in the middle of the game's action sequences. Disc swaps are ALWAYS well masked to ensure that they do not spoil the fun. You will know this if you played games from the PS1 era.

While I agree that MGS4 is leaps and bounds over anything on the 360, I will not agree with your comment about 360 exclusives being a generation backwards from other PS3 exclusives. Look at Gears, look at Mass Effect. Are they so last gen to you? MGS4 and Uncharted are great games in their own respect, but would you deny that the 360 has some great games as well?

You make yourself look nothing more than a fanboy by giving comments skewed towards the benefit of nothing more than the good name of PLAYSTATION 3. Lightning69 is no better. You both love your consoles so much that you do not see the greener patch of grass on each other's side.

Just give up the fanboyism and get both consoles. If you can't afford to do so, look at things without being biased.

When there is a big title released its normal to see the sales go up a few hundred %, but overall 360 cumulated sales in Japan is only about a quarter of PS3 (360 - 668K, PS3 - 2,324K), considering 360 was released much earlier.

but i do agree that PS3 lacks of good JRPG, I have owned a PS3 for more than 1 year, and my favourite game type is JRPG, but... i still do not find a good JRPG to buy on PS3. I am playing all the JRPG on PS2.

Btw, i have both the 360 and the PS3. At the moment how many rpg are there on the PS3 and how many on the 360? I'm sure you know which is the better next-gen console for rpg be it japanese or western.

TS, no doubt that Xbox360 have many upcoming RPG exclusives but at the moment the RPG games that have been released Lost odysey and blue dragon are nothing to shout about. What we gamers want is quality

Xbox360 owners...you are not alone! Many PS3 user are having problems with their bluray lens. In fact their is a tread here discussing the issues and many PS3 owners won't even dare to play DVDs on their PS3. They are living in fear too!

White Knight Chronicles is scheduled to be launch somewhere in 1st quarter 2009. Hope there won't be any delay.

In the mean time, look forward to Valkyrie Chronicles.. Trusty Bell looks appealing as well.
