Doubt I'll use it as daily phone cause of the glossy surface lol.. Rm1.5k is very reasonable for this pretty phone.. |

i share your concerns about the outer surface getting smudged and scratched....looks too shiny to be easily maintained humbly tho, dont think this is the first clamshell walkman....think there were a few before this.....the w710 for instance? |

yep.all w980 comes wif a hpm-77 inbox.except the ap provider decide to remove it when they are repacking the phones,which should't be happening IMO.

then i went to Sony Center at Midvalley to clarify..its confirm RM1899.. even the staff there also WOW..when i told them the SE Center selling at that sky high price. conclusion.. NOT ALL SE center will sell at RRP since they are some or mostly own by DYnacom or whatever AP company..not directly under SE. so beware.. |

Yep, the A200 software doesn't have any limitation on the message storage.
You can even store it on your memory card. But, it would much wiser if you store it in the phones' memory. |

Guess what guys, i accidentally scratch the front part of the phone abit.. :sad:
 haiz... still look ok. Also, the front part quite prone to scratches i think. Cuz i look at the phone, and i see little lines here and there. Its definitely, not me, I don't go purposely scratching the phone. Overall, the phone is great. Cuz i am a music fan. Although the camera is not the greatest, but it satisfies MY every need. |

get a good screen protecter. lol. i've found a way to open the phone without actualy leaving any finger prints =D. haha. The only thing is...the screen is very prone to dust >< lol. but it hardly can be seen anywayz.

ok. i'm a w980 user. used abt 3weeks well. its a cool phone. music quality is superb and everything. sleek. however i'm gona change to N85 or e66 as the w980 is kinda prone to fingerprints. Well if u dont mind cleaning ur phone every day...then its the best looking phone out there. Lagging? nah, not realy...can still take it. Bugs? there shouldent be any as this is not a sophisticated phone. Its very cool. Get it if u want an appealing phone.

chidori. i dont know if its only me but the SO called "High end" Hpm-77 earphones arent really that good after all. well, it fits perfectly in my ear but the volume is some sort of soft. i suggest getting a pair SHure Scl2 or sennheiser earphones. its not the phone prob...the phone's music quality is superb...but the earphone.

hpm 88 is the noise canceling one. I bought the MX560. its not in ear..but the quality is very good. sound is aso louder.

yea... wuite happy with the phone. sound quality is really great. and the fm transmitter works like a charm.
8G is really great for ppl on the go like me. Dont have to carry around and extra chunk of mp3 players. Also its easy on the eye. I had enough pdas... stupid iphone... |

w960= smartphone... has wifi..... cheaper.. I used both of these models b4...previously using w960i until i left it on a taxi ><. w960i is kinda nice too..but..its really really laggy. and its touch screen isn't that easy to use compared to iphone coz its not multitouch. w980i is stylish and cool however it doesnt have wifi and stuff and its not a smartphone. if you like music and planing not to bu an mp3...go for w980i as it's music quallity is superb... thats if you dont need wifi and stuff. =) |

Just now went to Sony Centre for warranty my LCD have a chances to get hold the display unit.
It's really amazing , with the design and feel. Sound quality is very good, crystal clear and better then the Apple Ipod. Anyway, it very pricey and the drawback is no M2 card slot for expansion storage. The Retails price is RM1888. This post has been edited by suyee: Dec 12 2008, 01:27 PM |

it will turn red when ur taking video. and no it doesnt have a flash. its just to indicate that the video mode is on...red light

W980i = stylish + music lover + listen to true music not just sound (stylish street walker) E71 = business + powerful connectivity + easy qwerty keyboard (businessman) i think so.. |

i think only CSL can be considered as first tier AP company. Price will be only slightly lower than ori set.
the rest such as final choice, comsat, asia mobile, telstra are 2nd tier AP company. |

hei..I just back from Digital Mall..1 of the shop told me that W980i got a lot of problem now..is it true? He said many ppl once open the phone then the screen blank, got many problems.
Haih..I plan to buy for my gf now.. but then they ppl told me like that..scare la.. anyone else use this phone and got the same problem?? |

I just bought it yesterday at Digital mall..I went to Lowyat before that but all shop out of stock..bleks..wan buy also kenot..
then I straight approached to Digital mall and get it.. I asked many shops at lowyat, the lowest price I can get was RM1050. Then I get it at RM1040 at Digital Mall. Btw, can I know how is the sticker look like? (I mean behind 1, the place that you can see the Serial number all that.) Mine 1 is white colour 1, I worry that's China phone. =.=" Anyone bought this phone? Mine to take a photo of the back side then post it here? Just wan to compare... Thank you very much! |

im new with SE phone...n dis one is my 1st one....so not really familiar with its UI....got a question here...
any possible way to save sms in the phone memory?...whenever i saved sms from my inbox,it will go strait to sim memory...then i tried to transfer them to the phone memory using the option given...but will always get a pop-up sayin failed to transfer messeges...how r? |

i juz save my msg at draft... so it will be saved on phone memory...
open the inbox msg and foward the msg, juz add space at the end of the msg, and press back button.. and choose save... so it will saved in draft folder... |

yea....but dat would delete the name of the sender n date received ryte?
btw...experiencing some problem with the phone which is kinda annoyin... 1- the walkman kinda laggy sumtime...there's a very brief silence at times...not always....but it annoys me when it happens so many times...=.=...izzit bcos im using a very high quality mp3 files?most of mine would b at 320kbps variable bitrate... 2- typing msg kinda laggy also...at times,i pressed the key lyke twice oredi baru the letter comes out....izzit normal with other SE phone? 3- reboot....reboot....reboot...=.=...most of the time when i'm using the fm transmitter.... 4- the ear speaker u use when u receive call, the sound produced by it ade pecah2 skit....dunno how to xplain dis...=.= 5- a minor bug...doesnt bother me much tho...the phone will auto unlock even tho the slider still in its lock position when i close the phone without ending a call.... 6- vibrate kinda soft....hahahaha....does anyone knoe how can i increase it??lalalalala~~ anyone experiencing all this?? the 1st,2nd n 3rd annoys me the most....the others...i still can live with it... izzit bcos mine is ap set or everyone is experiencin the same prob? |

i did a master reset dis evening....everythin turns out fine...the walkman is ok now...not a single reboot yet till now...
the ear speaker i think its hardware prob...but im gettin use to it...u guys dun even have the slider lock bug??? |

ckp skit psl vibrate u guyz startin to get a wrong idea...=.=...haih...its kinda hard to feel the phone vibrate while in silent mode lor...dats y...i tried the update service from my phone...n it said dat my firmware is oredi the latest one...

...hehe...what i can say about this phone:  this phone really cool....it is very class when u hold in hand...and if u looking for a walkman phone,this phone is the best within the walkman series because of more equalizer option... other than the vibrating alert got a bit soft ,camera not so good and a bit laggy processing...im very satisfy this phone...would give 8/10 rating.... |

hmm. this looks like a nice phone. currently im using dopod 838pro. yea i know, nice keypad for smsing and touchscreen for browsing. now kinda bored of it already. browsing to look for a phone to buy. this one looks better than the 5800 Tube.
gonna sell dopod + topup some money for it. been reading through and noticed some people are having difficulties and some defects with their model. is this a widespread problem?. |

ya...this phone kinda laggy...this made me a bit disappointed when i get this phone...but after used awhile,feel like biasa already...haha...but this phone quite cool and sexy that makes me continue use this phone...for equalizer setting,i personally like 'easy'...

Just got my w980 Midland set for only RM1099.
overall a classy phone with decent specs. FM transmitter a new feature for me,too bad it has to be close with the radio for good reception. |

hey guys..
im a proud owner of w980 for about 2-3weeks now.. it gave me no problems the 1st few weeks.. after going thru thoroughly all the problems other users face.. was lookin if anyone faced the same problem as mine.. I dont get the reboot thingy when usin the Walkman function and it doesnt really lag either.. BUT Sometimes, i CLOSE my phone.. the whole phone TURNS OFF.. which means i have to turn it back on, enter pin bla bla.. This can happen 5-6 times in a row, turn on, close phone, phone turns off.. then i turn on again, close fon, phone turned off..... Annoyin she sh*t outta me man.. lol I've asked around and someone said back-up the files, master reset or format the phone again. But before i try this, does anyone have any other suggestion? |

hi,im really serious considering this phone or g705. went to lowyat,980 ap can get rm700k,n g705 ap can get rm800. tried g705,the ui seems slow....want to try w980i,all dun have a "stock" unit for me to try. wan to ask u guys/girl,is the volume ok? how about UI menu speed,does it lag? walkman? i believe it is the best,mayb can beat my modded p1i. if not that lag,i wan to get it for my gf.

luckily mine is generic and i've already updated to r3da028 china using a2uploader which is a very easy tool to use for beginners! I juz flashed it with the same region firmware which is china and it works! no nid to flash custompacks as mentioned in the tutorial i read

For those who fail to update their firmwares thru SEUS, its most likely u have a invalid CDA number (usually happens to AP sets)...u can correct it by changing it with a software called A2 CDA file generator which is 100% free, and there is a thorough guide to do it!
To check ur CDA code, go to the service menu by pressing >*<<*<*, den go to service info>software info...scroll down and find CUSTIMIZATION, there u will see the codes. The SEUS update problem mainly occurs to AP sets which have wrong CDA codes...this is the fastest and easiest way to fix it...

I've read sumwhere about the the joint easily broken issue, it is something to worry about...But mine I feel it's quite sturdy.
BTW, the cam although it's not the best cam (no autofocus, not lanscape camera mode, limited options), but I only use my camera for some candid shot and they all turn out to be quite good, and the fun part? Geo-tagging~ And the track ID, it's uber cool, it really identifies any song from any source, I've tried TV, in the car, mp3 player with speaker, radio...anything. |

After switching to GSM network, I manage to get double of that. Don't worry you can switch it back anytime when you need 3G (video call, faster internet surfing etc etc). Laggy yes, but I don't "multitask" with W980 so, no problem for me...
Currently filled up to almost 6GB of rubbish (musics, photos, podcasts, videos) still, performance just like before... Just that start up takes abit longer. |

normally for SE phones, when u play the walkman player and text sms simultaneuosly, it tends to lag a little. for older walkman phones ie SE W800i this doesnt happen.

When I want to save those sms into my "Saved Messages" folder, it will automatically saved into my sim card memory. Because of that, it has a limit of number of saved messages only. 1) How can I save it into my 8GB dimm card instead? I cant find the option. 2) When I use PC Suite, I can create a new folder under PC Suite Archive (in Text Message column). Does this means it copied those saved messages into my pc? Because I cant seem to locate it back from my W980 phone alridi. Hope to get more hints and tips from you guys. Thanks. |

1 more thing, in my previous SE phone, there is a file manager icon for me to click. so that I can view and see my memory card easily. but I dont have this icon in this phone.
Hence, when i transfer songs into the Music folder, all the songs listing gone messy. Eg, I've included 50 songs in a folder called mp3. But when I launch the media, it was separated by Albums automatically or artists and arranged differently. How come it does not recognize MP3 as an album and play all the songs inside? |

Thanks. the default usually will be saved into phone memory. dont need to find an option. its already a default. unless u wanna transfer it from phone to sim memory, then when u open the message, choose options and save message. as for question 2 im not really sure as i dont use pc suite. I used its media manager and pc suite, since they are there for u to use, why not right?

yeah. try installing it from the CD they provided.
then if u want u can sync it with ur phone. im not very good in this as usually i just drag and drop them into the phone straight. |

You can now find it under organizer 4) W980 is an advanced portable music device, that's why it categorically reorganizes your files according to the mp3's ID tags which, if you're an audiophile is Godsent. Which means if you have like 100's of albums like I do and would like to keep them organized accordingly, then this is a great phone for that, and album art would just be fun to have too. But if you still want your mp3s to be read in a single folder, select all the songs in your PC, right click to access properties, under advanced, type the folder name ie. "MP3" at the 'album' field and then transfer it to you phone. But all of your songs will show the artists' names from the album "MP3". Creating playlist is the best solution for you. This w980 is a great phone. But i encounter a problem with the design..
1. The outer lcd seem very fragile. I accidentally put my car key with the phone. The key press on the LCD and the LCD get spoiled. 2. The keypad two side got a round stuff which will crack the LCD screen housing if you pressed the phone. |

Just own 1, with firmware ver R3EA036.. unfortunately, the shake control seems not functioning... i've try shake it hard but nothing happen. Is there a setting for this function or am i missing sumting?

Finally i found out how that led work.. When the battery warning come out, then u plug in the charger and the red led will turn on for 10 seconds...
