how do u guys backup cydia apps and restore them later after doin another time jb?

Hi there

Im still fairly new to my Ipod Touch and Cydia. I've been trying to get OpenSSH from Cydia but since yesterday i've been getting the error POSIX: Operation Timed Out. I could get some other apps but some others also same error.

Is there any other alternative on getting OpenSSH? I've tried looking for other sources but non had OpenSSH.

Actually the main reason im getting OpenSSH is so that i can download apps in .deb format and install it in my Touch. Should be faster and beats downloading using Cydia.

Any suggestions guys? Is Cydia always this slow? And is it possible to install .deb files using IphoneBrowser without OpenSSH?

i jz get an used iphone.
I can use any telco with it, but i cant found "Cydia" inside my iphone..
Is that mean my iphone was unlocked, but havent jailbreak yet?
Btw, it running version 3.0((7A341).

how to check those application from store is free or not free?i always read whole details page but never see they mention whether those application is free or not

princess, they would ask for purchasing method, if you were to buy a priced ( not free ) app in cydia.

This is a tutorial for any of you who wants to install Cydia applications but don't have any possibility of connection to the Internet throught the iPhone/iPod Touch.

First of a list of things you will need:
- Already installed iTunes
- Cyder (software for browsing Cydia repos on PC) link
- USB cable connection (any of the devices stated above)
- Already jailbroken device with installed Cyida (of course)
- iFunBox (optional - I prefer to use it coz cyder sometime don't transfer the files correctly)

That's it

1) Install Cyder anywhere on your PC
2) Install iFunBox

3) Run Cyder (there are 4 icons on the left of the app)
4) On the first screen(icon) is a list of sources, you can add the most common ones (Clicking the + sing) (I will post a list at the end of the post).
4) After the sources are added and loaded clink the second icon
5) Here you can search for your apps. As an example we will try to install Winterboard (from a fresh jailbroekn iPhone)

6) in the search field (at the bottom) type Winterboard.
7) press the magnifying tool next to the text box to search
8) you will have to press it many times...coz it searches names, descriptions and so on...so until in the list says Winterboard keep pressing the search button.
9) once you found it (or scroll down and select it by your own) select it with the checkbox
10) notice the right part of the screen now...there is the description of the app and under it is a list of apps that needs to be installed before you can install Winterboard (in this case it says mobilesubstrate ...and some numbers)....CLICK on it to find it!!
11) once you did ...select it also with the checkbox!
12) Click the "Download selected packages" button (at the bottom-left of the page)...wait for them to download.

13) close cyder and open iFunBox
14) navigate to:
Raw File System/var/root/Media/Cydia/AutoInstall
15) if the folder Cydia/AutoInstall is not there....create it! (beware IS casesensitive)
16) the downloaded apps form cyder are in the "archives" folder where cyder is installed. They should have the DEB extension!
17) copy those files to the above indicated location!

18) Run cydia for first time reorgananization! run once more and choose "User"
19) Reboot your device by holding Home+Power 10sec
20) Don't do anything for a couple of seconds (wait untill it installs)
21) run cydia and check in the "Manage/Packages" if what you choose is installed!
22) Reboot your device once again (this is required only coz Winterboard requires it)

23)That's it...once it's booted up you should have winterboard up and running

24) There are sometimes issues of not showing the Icon on the springboard...to fix this do the following (Do it ONLY if you follwed everything and you don't get the apps icon the the springboard):
25) Download and install an app (repeating the same process from (6)) that REQUIRES the "Restart Springboard" function. For exapmle...you can install Clippy!
26) once installed go into cydia...and UNINTALL clippy (or the app of your choise) like you would normally do
27) cydia will ask you to restart the springboard - DO IT!
28) Now the icon should show up

i am using boss prefs for my iphone, it can disable/enable 3g/edge ...etc....any different compare with SBsettings?

oh so now i know that the iphones frm maxis is unlocked cuz i bought without contract, but not jailbroken, is that correct?

well what you mean you dont have firmware....check in your itunes what is your current version...when you plug in the phone...if 3.1.2 then use blackra1n..if 3.1.3 its ok wait till jb is out...or you can try restoring back to 3.1.2...

anybody knows of an app which can pop up reminder without having to connect to the network? something similar like calender pop up but instead of calender, it's a todo list or something like that..
I've tried to locate from the apps in Apple Store but none of them works without connecting to the network. I was hoping somebody might create a 3rd party which could just help..

sure i have read the thread many times again and again..
but i thinks for now i have to be very patient because there are too many problem with this 3.1.3 . i also already download that sbsetting but it does not work.still same,using my credits when i play a game without using wifi.all i want to do now is just upgrade to 3.1.2. thats all . but here is no way for now right besides my bootloader is 3.09 i've tried use fuzzyband and also cant because i should downgrade my bootloader to 3.08. si all i can say is this new firmware is really sucks . many appc not supported. if someone can teach me fully how to downgrade,its really really good for me.thank you.

After about a year of using various methods to get it to work right, there is now a Data Toggle for SBSettings. The problem with disabling data (EDGE) is discussed in my post from last July. Today, Anderson Vulczak contacted me with a working solution to both disable and reenable Data on 3.0 iPhone OS. So we quickly put together a Data toggle and put it into Cydia. In short, this solution sets a bogus IP address, (1.1.1.0) to your data adapter’s IP address. This seems to kill EDGE / 3G without any battery drain issues reported in using other methods such as entering a bad APN.

I recommend that anyone that needs to disable Data use this rather than the EDGE toggle. The toggle should work also with BossPrefs as well.

We are calling this “Data” toggle because when it is off, it should kill the data connection entirely. 3g can be on and you will not be able to access your internet via your provider’s data connection. You will notice you get an IP address, but it is a bogus one that we assign (1.1.1.0).

The only downside is that to reenable data, we have to kill commcenter which can freeze the device for up to 15 seconds. (Should come back to life after that though).
