I'm new to this post. So what was the conclusion? I'm starting work at Singapore soon and I would also like to know information on this. If it is not that bad, I would like to commute daily to Singapore from JB.

I move to SG to work since end of last year. work in jurong and also stay in jurong. so my 2 cents worth opinions;

- price for real estate is damn crazy high. be it room, hdb flat or private condo.
- u can get cheap room around SGD 400 - SGD 800 at hdb flat with you-dont-know-who. sharing all the things inside the house and most sublet is illegal. means if hdb ppl pay a visit for inspection make sure u r hiding. show ur face only if you know ur name is listed as subtenant. hint: if u r on work permit u surely  do not want to do anything that can cause ur permit to be revoked.
- i shared before and i learned my lesson. I have a psychopath housemate. So i moved n rent 1+1 room hdb flat that cost me sgd1600/month. rent + bills = almost sgd2k/month. and we r talking hdb not a nice luxury condo!
-im working during office hour and use public transport. transportation per month cost me sgd 150-200 (i used combination of mrt, bus and sometimes taxi)
-i ate at my office canteen most of the time so rice+2 dishes+veg including drinks its around sgd4- sgd4.50. and eat at home for dinner.
-for me sg cost of living is very high. with my income i can live a comfortable life in malaysia, can afford whatever i want to eat or buy. but in sg, i live a life where i need to slash whatever thing that is less priority and always think how to save money. its tiring.
-so after asking other malaysian senior at my office, i research here n there, i planned to moved to jb after my rental contract end and commute everyday to jb.
-previously i work in kl, and bad traffic is normal. going back home from office at klcc to ampang kosas can cost u an hour or more. which by fact without traffic it only take 10-15 min. and traffc in sg is not  bad. car is still moving even though its slow. and bear in mind...it doesnt took 4 hrs from sg to jb..im not sure why in this forum thy say it is 4-5 hrs. even if u, use bus during peak hours it took u 2 hrs. but this is rarely. maybe happen during holiday season or shortage of bus. mostly 1-1.5 hr.

however in the end of the day it all depends on u. what is ur real reason to work in sg. and decide which is the best. for me, it becoz of the experience, the money, and i want to exposed my self to varieties. so why care for the hardships if you get more pros then cons eventually...

I really like this.
I'm also working in Singapore only recently. Now still getting grace staying at staff house but need to move out soon. I would like to stay in either at Gelang Patah of Uda and commute daily by motorbike. I also always here ppl say it takes hours but never hearing from somebody who actually does it. So I want to try for myself first. Anybody know a motorbike rental service at JB?
