Wow this thread still alive. Let me share my experience.

I've been working in singapore for 8 years and stayed in Gelang Patah which is about 30 minutes drive from JB. My house is quite close to second link.

No doubt expenses in Johor is lower but you got to sacrifice your time to travel.

I drove a singapore registered car, depart from home at 630am and reaches office between 730am to 8am which is located at Jurong east, finish work between 5pm to 530pm and reaches home around 630pm -7pm if serious jam around 730pm-8pm.
