Hi all, I need a little clarification here. Anyone can help?

Next year me, my fiance and my friends want to go to Sipadan-Mabul-Kipalai and we all take the diving package also.
But the issue here is that we all Muslims and my fiance ask me whether the diving suit will show the shape of her body. Because there are mix of males and females among us. She a little bit embarrass.

Is the suit really fitting the body or there are any special suit for tudung girl?
*
Correct me if I am wrong here, but the reason the diving suit is designed that way was to retain/or insulate body heat and also to make you streamlined in the water so as not to exert yourself. But I've seen and know people who dont use the dive suit in tropical waters because its not necessary to do so as the water isnt that cold. Furthermore a lot of guys here just wear board shorts so mayb that will help if she wear shorts and tights to cover up entirely and mayb a bandana too together to replace the tudung as most girls i know wear it to help keep the hair out of their face when they have to remove their mask underwater and such. I know its not much but these are the options I know.. Mayb someone else can also help i was thinking about this too last time. hmm.gif

Your only safe option would be sabah or thailand west coast for diving during that time. East coast (Perhentian, eg) would be closed due to monsoon.

Guys, if thailand right, know where or anyone have contact there to approach? If its snorkelling tours i'm fine but these things, I want to get a reputable one with proper equipment and a dive operator who doesnt put safety second.

Hi Guys,

When does the season officially open in Semenanjung? Is it advisable to go just when the season opens?

^Usually mid-end February.

Cheap rates, empty resort. Sea and weather can be quite unpredictable.

I went to Redang for open season a few years ago. Waves were quite high when we were on the ferry there, practically covered the whole ferry. Bags were put outside, clothings in the bag all half wet and smell of sea water. Diving vis was quite bad, waves was crazy. Lots of us had seasick. So in the end, I swore never go during open season again. tongue.gif

Awh man.. Then maybe I should wait till mid march or early april or would that still be the same?

It *should be* better in March or early April. But like digitalz say, weather is very unpredictable nowadays. But I think your best bet would be around mid March to early April as you've said, unless you can make it around June/July. smile.gif

On another note, I've went for closing season before, heck most of the time I go during closing season and it's quite okay. Doesn't rain as well. (Oh I forgot to mention that when I was at Redang during open season, it was raining everyday for the 3D2N I was there. It stop raining the last day when I was about to go back)

The worst closing season weather I had was in Pulau Dayang where the monsoon rain/wind was crazy, 5 hour boat ride back to mainland was another one hella experience - vomited all the way. rclxub.gif Then again, that was in November which was already monsoon. Usually closing season around end of September.

Yeah.. Darn.. There I was thinking I cld use the holidays early next year.. I guess i have to take leave.

I'm craving to go diving so bad right now but it's monsoon...

Wish i have buddy to go diving early next yr (between Jan-Mar) to somewhere..Mabul/Semporna..or Thailand.. or even Pulau Payar.

Is pulau payar any good?
I heard there's lots of sharks and turtles there.
I enjoy corals but i enjoy large shoal of fish too.
I'm surprise that when i dived in Perhentian this year, the amount of fish reminds me of diving in Mabul!! but of course the fishes in Perhentian are alot smaller in size. but it's still an amazing experience.

Before i took diving license, i've always think it's the ultimate coolest thing i could do on an island. but once i'm a diver..i do appreciate going snorkeling too sometime!! Snorkeling is coool toooo!

Bro! Lets go! biggrin.gif

Anyhow lets organise the dive trip with the forumers?

2 days definitely possible in Perhentian. If its possible in Perhentian, its very likely that its possible in other islands like Tioman. Perhentian is considered expensive.

Here's a breakdown on twin sharing basis.

Accommodation x 2 Nights (twin sharing, Room rated Rm60/room/night) Rm60 (Flora Bay Resort)
Boat Transfer (Rm70)
Airport Transfer (Rm20 - Share with 3 other people)
Air ticket return (1 month in advance air asia average) Rm150
Food Rm60

Total Rm360
3 Dives @ Rm85 each = Rm255

Total Rm615 tongue.gif

Extra Rm15 should be ok?

Sounds good. I am suddenly free to go for a dive and i havent really saved up. So i have about that much or a bit more to spend for a dive. I'm not sure about flying though. Its kinda expensive for something last minute.

Thanks.

Guys! I love seeing pics of the underwater world and want to take some for myself, I am planning to get my own camera and casing for this upcoming dive. But I just got my OWD license. Do you think its wise to do so or will it be difficult for me? I wana capture some memories of my own..

I just came back from diving in perhentian over the weekend. I am very new it was my 5th -7th dive. Anyhow, I bought my own fin last year at MIDE and i am wondering whether i bought one thats too big causing difficulty in my finning. How do i tell? Cause i feel like i am struggling sometimes or could it be that i am too new to using the fins?

I am using the cressi frog plus fin with booties. I find it kinda weird to fin around.. I am just not sure whether its wrong technique or what.. I mean it propels me along nicely but sometimes i feel like 'unnatural' to use it. I've used rentals for snorkelling trips and they feel fine.. could it be wrong fin? and being very new.. i kinda panic with every thing.. so this one currently weighs on my mind.

hahaha i know.. but a lot of things can go wrong. And I am afraid of heights so going down meters upon meters scares me like hell.. I think i consume too much air going down coz i tend to jerk thinking i'm free falling every time..

Guys, I went to perhentian last time and rented a camera to take pics during my dive and found it fun. Now I have a G12 and wondering whether to buy my own underwater housing or just keep on renting? And if i have to buy, is the Canon underwater housing ok? Some dont recommend it coz they say it tends to crack easily and recommends the ikelite.. But i think the ikelite is too expensive... Any recommendations or rentals from kl where i can just rent and bring 1 camera during the whole trip and not let anyone else burn the pics for me..?

Depends, I guess. If you're the type who is very into photography and wanna change this lens that lens then go for Ikelite, like what zaff had said.
Otherwise, the canon one is good enough. I have a G9 and S95 both using Canon housing. Haven't crack or failed me yet. G9 good for macro and S95 pretty good for video and general shots. I'm not very particular with lens or super duper awesome sharp photos so it's all good for me. Your G12 is one of the best options for an underwater camera, most people I know that uses the Canon G series go for the Canon housing. Unless they are bringing a DSLR down, then they go for Ikelite.

You may wanna think about investing in strobe lights too, as it is quite crucial for good underwater lighting. So plan your budget well. wink.gif

As for camera rental in kl, I don't know any at the moment. But I know those that have underwater cameras treat their camera, housing and strobe like their own baby and will never let others touch it or harm it. laugh.gif
*
Hmm.. I am worried that the g12 will flood and it only takes one flood to ruin it entirely and I love that camera. And yeah a lot of people i managed to talk to are not letting anyone touch their sets too.

Any idea what the price is for ikelite? I got about 1.8k..
