Actually I heard a bit about Bonsai. From the Japanese perspective, they prefer the Bonsai to be left in their own shape (but of course trim some parts) to give some originality without obvious human intervention. However in Chinese perspective, they tends to tie and shape the Bonsai to give some Dragon/religion images. Bonsai are to be left in the garden to collect enough sunlight and water. As most of you said, they need to be patiently taken care of, with trimmings and such.

I don't have such patience to take care of the Bonsai sweat.gif blush.gif

hmmm... interesting. Some of them looks like miniature trees.

Are they easy to maintain? Need daily watering? Any special care?

What do i need to check out when getting a new one?

heya guys.

my mother's garden use to have Bonsai. we grom them and care for them

at least half of them was stolen from thier pots as they are worth lots of money.

sigh. but as for how my parents trim the bonsai, they dont use clippers but they use bare hands to remove the yellow leaves.

May I know what type of bonsai is that on the 1st pic with redbrown pot? How much it cost roughly?

hi friend.
i've already made some bonsai but only one survived because of the fact that i spend less time
to them.
as far as i know, bosais are made from old trees/plants that can be potted. but those that i made came from somewhat young. what i did was i cut the main roots and some of the branches of those plants then i put them directly in pots and i covered each with plastic bag. i set them aside in my backyard for several weeks. when i checked them some died while few revealed tiny leaves. but after several weeks only one made it and the rest died. this one doesn't seem to be the best. it didn't grew up but the leaves are larger than i was expecting.

can you suggest some steps making bonsai out of young trees but will result to a cute one..i mean with smaller leaves compared to its original size?

thank you.u

hi... i am a bonsai lover too.... used to have at least 20 pots but only left 5 now... most of it dried out.. the leaves got burnt... it happened when i was away for 2 weeks++.. thought my bro will water it but seems that he forgot..it was a miss communication morelikely... this happened about 1 month ++ ago... the survived trees are still in recovering stage now... they are not really in good shape.. i may need lots of work to reshape them as some of the branches are dead... wasted 3 to 4 years...

gary,
what type of tree did you plant?... some trees cannot be planted from stem/branches... i am also not sure about you covering it with plastic bag.. our weather here are quite humid, no need to worry bout water being evaporated... When you cover it with plastic bag, did you water them? i suggest if you wanna grow from stem, try to dip it in root hormone before you pot it... as for leaves, if you wanna make them small, you need to pluck it regularly.. fyi, leaves can be trained to be small but not the fruits nor flowers. training a tree to be a bonsai is a very long process... need to be very patient... (like mr.miyagi in karate kid nod.gif ...cool ey that old guy..love that movie)

if you are new to this rewarding hobby, i suggest you try water jasmine (wrightia)...this will turn into a very beautiful bonsai & it is not a demanding tree & very easy to shape.. just not to forgot to add water daily..

cheers...

Today i went for a quick look just like to know:

Are there Bonzai that doesn't have rough stems? The ones i saw got so many "Pimples" and doesn't look smooth at all.

Are there Bonzai with small leaves. The one I saw has normal size leaves, make it look like small tree with big leaves.

I want to get 1 that looks like a miniature tree. Smooth and nice leaves.

some even put a plate of water at the bottom to prevent dried soil..

i saw in DIY store which got a bottle that can do watering.. it's use some kind of osmosis behaviour and got tube directly to the soil.. so it's quite handy for those want to leave the bonzai a few days..

just a few bucks can save our pricey bonsai of course..
