New iPhone Firmware 2.0.1 is OUT. I can confirm that this new firmware is not yet 'pwnable' with the latest version of Pwnage 2.0.1.

But many said that if you do have a pwned iPhone, meaning you've pwned your iPhone before with Pwnage 2.0, just restore your iPhone with iTunes and your iPhone will remain unlocked and functional.

I haven't upgrade my phone yet, but I'll do soon. As soon as I've upgraded my iPhone to Firmware 2.0.1, I'll tell you the result here.

Anyway Firmware 2.0.1 can be downloaded here :

Will update once I get back home from Singapore. This will be the a perfect example on why official unlocked iPhones are the only way to go.

Currently updating my iphone..will be reporting back soon...

Many said that this new firmware speeds up iPhone...hopefully it's true...2.0 firmware is actually quite slow and buggy

Added on August 5, 2008, 10:43 amSuccesfully update my iPhone to firmware 2.0.1...

If you have already pwned your iPhone before using Pwnage 2.0, just click update in iTunes, and it'll do the rest for you. Just wait about 10 minutes for the process to finish. After that, you'll have the new 2.0.1 Firmware in your iPhone.

I can confirm that this new firmware makes my iPhone run smoother than before. Congrats Apple...

Here are some info on the bug fixes on FW 2.0.1.

-Backups are now much faster

-You can now drag your application icons across many pages in one motion instead of having to stop on every page and drop it and go again.

-Contact scrolling is now more responsive

-Apple might have changed how the iphones reception bars are calibrated while connected to a 3G network to recieve a greater connection than before

-SMS typing is now much faster.

Hey hust-noon, thank you for the updates. Just wondering, did you install Cydia and did Apple include the cut and paste function and how about MMS?

Tried pwning the new firmware 2.0.1 with PwnageTool 2.0. No go..A pop up screen saying wrong firmware bundle selected.

Gotta wait for Dev-Team and Winpwn to come up with a solution.

To update or not to update? (From Dev-Team)

We’ve been reading some comments in our previous post “Updates!” and certain people have been a little bit excited and hastily updated using yesterday’s iTunes update without getting the information first ;-)

We don’t see any major problems with the release that Apple made, but we have not released an update for PwnageTool for it as yet and therefore PwnageTool 2.0.1 will not work!

If you absolutely can’t wait then original (2G) iPhone owners can update using iTunes if they really need to, but you’ll lose third-party applications that rely on the Jailbreak, although it is reported that the 2G device remains activated, we have not clarified this.

3G owners can in theory update, but you’ll lose the jailbreak, and you should only carry out this update if you always plan to use the 3G phone with the original carrier, but be warned that there is a baseband update that occurs during this update that could impact the ability to unlock the device (if and when an unlock becomes available), we have not fully tested this baseband update as yet, but we think it is better to be safe than sorry.

Remember, from a jailbreaking point of view the update process is always reversible, but this isn’t the case for the 3G baseband, so your intended long term future use for the phone should help you decide what you do. If you always going to use the 3G phone with the original carrier then baseband updates are fine, if you are not then hold off.

As soon as testing is finished a PwnageTool update will be released that will allow you to safely update either device with all current PwnageTool features still in place and you’ll have the option to disable the baseband update.

The current version of PwnageTool is 2.0.1 it doesn’t support the latest ipsw versions.

Layman’s terms clarification:-

If your 3G iPhone is on a regular contract and you always plan to be with the carrier then you can update but you will lose the jailbreak and access to third party (non AppStore) applications.
If your 3G iPhone is not on a regular contract and you plan to use it on an alternative network to the carrier that supplied it then do not update unless you do it with the impending PwnageTool update.
We will release an update to PwnageTool when the testing has been completed and all applied changes have been checked for safety.

what the devteam quote actually very correct. even some users claimed the 2.0 very buggy, but it depend on what we gonna do with our phone. we might not running the same apps(user facing bug) were the bug arise. it still ok to sit back & enjoy the 2.0 while waiting the next action to be taken by devteam.

im quite sure they wont let us down..

cheers

guys im think my 1.1.4 has been detected by itunes and i notice some of my programs is chaging pattern such as, my phone usually will send sms to tell me how much i left for my credit after receiving a call.

but now it will not send me sms anymore, it will show a notification screen just like maxis *122# indication.

Another thing is i totally cant sync music and movies anymore...i wonder they require me to upgrade to 2.0 only entitle for the transferable music n movies.

so i would like to know is it the best time to update to V2.0 or should wait a little longer for stable version of V2.0? or i would say 2.0.1?

Thanks
