Yo man, tripod of course!
u think u can stay still for a full 13 seconds without moving a single bit?
imagine having to do that with a compact cam in your hands.
IMPOSSIBLE!

That is one of the simplest ways to away hand shake.
Using the 2sec timer and the burst.
But that won't do any good for shots that have long shutter speeds (e.g. 13 secs).
Tripod is still a necessity if you wish to take good shots at long shutter speeds.
Invest in one, they don't cost a bomb (can get a cheap one for below RM50).

Nope.
Not if you are aimed at getting the "moment" and the "shot".
Bringing along a small/medium sized tripod isn't all that hard.
It slings around your shoulder and stays there nicely.
It is a trade-off u will have to bear if u wanna get good photos.
And if u think clearly, a DSLR's performance and handling is way better than compacts, and yet, DSLR owners still use tripods.

Nobody said getting a great shot was easy tongue.gif

Sigh...originally wanted to get LX2 but due to the pricing (ppl goreng out there last time and limited color), I opt for Nikon P5000, which eventually phased out several months later with P5100 (kanasai!)...

Now that they finally released Devil May Cry LX3, I am looking into a DSLR already for all my family member complained donno how to use the Nikon P5000. Seriously, this kinda camera gives superb results when shot with MANUAL mode and tweak it to perfection but when in the standard program mode, it looks sucky, more over the auto ISO and flash makes shots looks shitty.

LX3 can perform near as good Entry level DSLR with kitty lens . coz kitty lens apperture is small, 1 2/3 stop slower.
if LX3 high ISO is 1 2/3 stops worse than dSLR, then it would be equal when using biggest apperture.

now i'm enjoying LX3 more than the DSLR thumbup.gif

Moving subjects are always hard to capture.
Puppies run around too much so u have not much choice but to either flash em, or use a fast shutter speed to freeze the action. But of all times, u pick night time to photograph ur puppy....which requires:
1) the biggest aperture on ur LX3 = f/2.0
2) raising ur ISO settings (introduces noise)

Suggestions:
1) photograph em during the day.
2) provide ample external lighting at night so that u can use slower shutter speeds.

I personally don't like flashing my subjects.
Makes em too bright.
Therefore the reason for the 2 suggestions i gave above.

Just my 2 cents tongue.gif

PS: your puppy's face is out of focus.
