It works when you say it this way. It doesnt work the other way around.
If what you're saying is true, then you'll have a paradox where the picture will get sharper and sharper each time you resize it.
What you said in the first place was to resize a 10MP picture to 8MP to make it sharper. That already doesnt make sense as you're already throwing away information. You could be referring to another thing, but resizing a picture that way just isn't right. 

Now you're using your gut feeling to explain things.
You could say that Panasonic's 10MP picture is in reality only 8MP due to cannibalising, but then the exact same thing will happen to any other cameras. The Nikon's 8MP will become 6MP due to cannibalising.
The point isn't me trying to win here, bro.

Even I don't understand some of ur points (e.g. cannibalising & lens resolution).
Do have some patience explaning to noobs like me ya~!

Lens resolution is the ability of a lens to.. resolve Google for "MTF chart" and you'll see how it's measured.

joyy is almost right when she says that downscaling throws away information (there are special cases where it won't e.g. a photo with only one color). You can always derive a 2MP picture from a 4MP picture, but in practice hardly the other way round.

(note: I'm questioning your logic where you spoke about resizing a 10MP picture to 8MP, not about 10MP vs 8MP sensors)

If you put a 100% crop of the two pictures next to each other on the same monitor, I agree that the lower MP version of the picture can look sharper.

But if you were to compare it fairly, which means that you maintain the visual size of the pictures when comparing them, I can't see how the lower MP version of the picture can look sharper. Maintaining the visual size could mean making a high-resolution print of them, or varying the distance from the display to you.

And if you were to say that "10MP is cannibalized to become 8MP due to noise reduction", then what you're saying is that 2MP of 10MP is worthless. Now think - does the resizing technique you use remove those 2MP of worthless pixels; in other words does it know which 2MP are useless? Or does it simply mix the worthless pixels with the good ones indiscriminately?

hi, just bought a black lx3 at tarita at sg wang for RM1550. i grab the only unit yesterday.
got casing, mini tripod & panasonic sdhc 4gb.
i check the firmware already v1.1

the owner said new stock will come this week or next week.

but,

the shop supervisor try to con me to buy unnecessary things
uv lens protector + lcd protector for RM400
and add 3 more years warranty for RM200 because he said panasonic only give warranty for 1 year only.

bought Stuff magazine (jan 2009), and there's this comparison between lx3, nikon p6000, canon g10, sigma (dp1 or dp2 cant remember) and ricoh caplio something cant recall the name.

And reading the review, i was like WTF ? It says the nikon and canon has better image quality, among other things la.

Now i learned that never to trust these gadgets magazine too much. Better find the reviews on the internet like dpreview

Since everyone here is talking about how the LX3's IQ is better than the G10's IQ, it felt necessary to mention that the Sigma's IQ is better than the LX3

I had your same perception on exposure b4.
I felt it was silly to think that under-exposing is better than over-exposing....
But this is what the real pros said in magazines and stuff I read.
Might not be the "truth", but i m just telling u what i know.
Probably has something to do with the way data is stored when taking photos....
