Hi to all. I wana ask a few questions about zoom g9.2tt.

1) How do i sustain a note very long? (as if i am using sustain pedal. Cause the ZNR seem to kill the sustain. I have to turn off the znr to get the sustain but still not long enough.)

2) How do i do the screaming delay effect like the one satriani did? The one he pushes the whammy bar, harmonic a note and then pull and sustain. Then will get the some sort of dirty scream like a feedback or something. Sounds like crying wah but i think its feedback though.

3) How do i reduce the "extra noise" when i use Acou Sim. Cause when i play, i get the dirty sound behind even i turn on the ZNR. It sounds really retarded when u cant even sustain a chord long enough for a slow tempo song.

Please help me. THank you very much. cheers.gif

Sustain, as much as your effects can push it, is still based on your guitar. Putting as much delay and reverb on your effects, will still suck if your guitar suck.

To me, the 3 most important aspects of the guitar that effects Sustain is wood type, construction and pickups. Like my RR3 has way less sustain compared to the fatter Zakk Wylde LP..... RR3 uses a lighter wood, Glue-On neck and a passive pickup compared to the Mahogany, Set Neck, Active Pickup Les Paul.

What guitar are you using btw?

The guitar is important, but jeffrey's problem seems to be quite critical. If the chords don't even last until the next bar...

1/ What is ZNR ? Is it some kind of noise reduction ? It will definitely suck up your guitar sustain. When you go direct into your amp, or if you bypass all effects in your G9, do you have better sustain ?
You could try to use the compressor (it's part of the zoom, yeah ?), there should be a sustain or release parameter to play around with.
I don't see any other effect that would kill the sound...

2/ Satriani doesn't use any effect at all. Check out :

at some point, he explains the scream. It's just artificial harmonics and a savage use of the whammy. You need distorsion and some reverb/delay to ease it out.

3/ i don't have the zoom, so i don't really understand the problem. "noisy" means "overdriven" ? check that you didn't set the input level too high on your zoom, perhaps you're saturating your input..?

1. Probably the decay on the noise gate (I'm assuming ZNR is a noise reduction system) is turned too fast? May also be the noise gate turned too high.
Anyhows, try turning off your noise gate, and lowering your gain. If noise is your problem, check if it's coming from your amp first. Since gain amplifies the signal, any noise in the chain gets bumped up at that. Your cables, are they good ones? If you have any other pedals, check them individually see whether they are noisy or not.

2. Satch? Artificial harmonics and the trem, other factors probably is his amps feedback. He specifically places tapes on the stage to identify spots he can use to control the amps feedback.

3. no idea =/

ZNR is The Zoom Noise Reduction......... Unless it's a VERY high gain setting, turn it off. I didn't use it at all on my GFX-5.
