images then shows gotham city, the buildings, cut to some gotham's people, uncertainty on their faces..

A voice-over, presumably by Officer blake/JGL character** OR by Selina Kyle (i going for the latter) summarising the ending of the movie (maybe along the lines of weather the death/MIA of batman meant anything or learning from the mayhem bane caused but what the batman, what it represents... instead of represent(ed)

he/she (Officer Blake/Selina aka catwoman) ends the movie with these last lines "... Dark Knight Rises"


...cut to a probable final scene of the film.


As as much as the viewers saw & heard what selina said, she doesn't know (and us too)...if batman died
(as nolan hung us viewers with an almost certainty of bruce/bat death earlier).

so the viewers don't know if the batman on top of the building showed the past or the future.





**just like in the ending of TDK where Lt. James Gordon last lines, tells his son,
"Because he's not our hero. He's a silent guardian, a watchful protector...a dark knight.
