well mySathia, from what i can summarize from most of the post here,

1. how old is your son? different console have different appeal and target market. if he's 12 or below, get a wii or a DS. if not, anything from PSP to PS3 will be good. wii and DS has more kid friendly software than others.

2. what's your budget? investing into a console, you must also take account on your financial capability in providing him with new softwares (games) every now and then. most games sell between RM80 to RM250 depending on type and availability. and pls do not succumb to the piracy thing, you are teaching the kid how not to value digital artists and publishers.

3. while PS2 has the biggest library, keep in mind that most of the games are out of reach unless you are willing to spend some time combing the net for the older ones.

4. all current gen consoles (Wii, X360 and PS3) has some sort of parental control in case you need one. X360 has a password protected feature to limit your son's gaming time. you can set this up for his console. i dunno about PS3 tho.
