heavy metalĀ  music might not suitable for the show wer....

perhaps something light and easy or sentimental will be easier absorb?

so i'm guessing somewhere along the lines of jazz or classical or some light pop music?
if its classical you're after to amplify the image. get a quartet of strings muscians.
somewhere along the lines of a double bass, cello, and 2 violinist or 1 violinist and the other a violo.
or 3 violions with a cello.
play those clicheish classical piece like ave maria, kanon in d, vivaldi 4 seasons.... would be suitable for your event.
would sort of make your event 'classier'... smile.gif

agree of what procontavia mentioned.

in fact, we dont mind solo on piano, violin or other music instruments performance, as long as suitable to the classy, elegance feel.

maybe the convention centre can supply?
or they can just put a compony(eg. yamaha) as a sponser on their catalog while yamaha will supply them the equidment.

I think getting equidment isnt really big problem, can settle easily, if all ends fail, there always is money brows.gif

I dont know if they ll sponsor,
and as she said earlier, budget is limited, I dont think she has allocated any budget to renting equipment and setting up a stage, technician most likely wont do it for free.
Unless the place where it is held has their own equipments (drum, mixer, amps, monitors etc.)
From the rental rate of equipment I saw from the guitar store website, a minimalist stage would easily go few thousands bucks..

i'd imagine a pop/jazz band will be more suitable, but they're mostly charge expensive rate, but jazz band is more elegant for such event.

or just piano and violin, a bit of classical/pop/jazzy/easy listening stuffs.

but there'll be a lot of other budgets involved - stage setup, sound system + sound engineer (both 3rd party or in house system which will be cheaper). then talking about piano, if want to look good, then have to rent a grand piano as well. if want a jazz band, you need multiple mic for instruments and especially drums.

seriously, if you want to hire musicians, tight budget will NOT work even the musicians willing to play for free. you'll get crappy sound where you boss will NAG like crazy and will make your exhibitions look even WORSE, and worst case is you might get crappy musicians.

but hope is not dead yet, if you want to hire just 1 person or a few without any sound system, the best you can is to have a string quartet playing at the entrance of the exhibition hall, or a violin + acoustic guitar, or as simple as just a violinist but just a violinist will not look as nice, though.

the BEST way to go is, look for an agent. they're not cheap, but you're not dealing with individual, you're dealing with company. so company and company will make things much easier and everything will be in black and white.

live musics ain't cheap, but it'll definitely make the exhibition looks way more elegant IF only you willing to spend money. so my suggestion is, if you're on a very tight budget, better don't hire musicians especially talking about bands.

good luck!

EDIT: crappy phrasing lol!

So u see the point there? Not to say i wanna flame, or i wanna put down the exhibition or something, i m just laying the fact that,
If you can afford stage set up and like you say raindrops, its gonna be a pea, then what is the big deal with showing a little appreciation to musicians? Even a small ang pow would make them happy see.

And i agreed with little ice that, getting crappy musician is detrimental to an elegant function. My advice is, if its gonna be a big event, dun scrimp just to save your budget. You company's and your own reputation is worthed more than that. Either you do it professionally, or dun do it at all.

they dont need to pay to get good musicians.
sometimes is not about the money mr.z nod.gif

if they are that scared of bad musicians, they can always ask them to submit a video through youtube or something.

through my experiences this kind of attemp is just purely wasting time and you'll NOT guarantee they'll perform as good during the show.

as i said, dealing with agent is the best and safest way. if anything screwed then things can be settle in the "company" way.

if those newbies want to create some profiles then they should approach agents and audition LIVE first, if agents trust you, then they should provide you some contract jobs like playing in put/hotels/shopping complex, and slowly you can create a lot of profiles and trusted among agents/clients, then you can do lots of shows. trying to do shortcuts will mostly end up in tears.

actually the very first impression i saw your post really frighten me - asking in public forum is quite dangerous, not to say there aren't any good musicians here but you know, it's like gambling. sweat.gif

the best way is to ask for more budget, since you want to have a stage performance instead of the entrance music i mentioned. anyway this is how local music scene works - shows are count in "sets", 1 set typically 45mins, some are 30mins (or 1 hour straight but normally only just 1 set). most musicians will play maximum 4 sets a day and that's already very tiring. if you want to spread more, 5 shows of 30mins also do-able.

oh and one more thing i forgot to mention, you'll have to include the expenses for lightings as well, if you want the band music as highlights - normally company will also organise a "theme song", can be new songs or pop songs, and the band will play them, but that's up to you. just dim and warm yellow lights through out is also OK.

seriously, if your boss want to have a successful exhibition, money has to spent on all these entertainment - typically dancing shows, slide shows/speeches, featured musicians/band musics (anymore?). again all these cannot be tight budget, it's you want to do it, or not.

you have to tell you boss asap that things cannot be done so casually. everything have to organize properly, be it big shows or small one, you have to know how every works to avoid last minutes craps.

hope that helps. wink.gif

stage and lighting system will be alright.

i just dont know whether they hav the music instrument to rent out or not.... let see....

never try never know...

asking public is not as dangerous as you think. as there is agreement, black and white, rehearser will be include, and we might need to see the musician performance as well to make the decision. thanks for your comments ... appreciated a lot
