FYI: i am using this setup:

normal sediment filter (buy one size larger than recommended) - only sand! this traps dirst and particles. the single flow valve and two basic carbon filters to remove chlorine and chemicals etc. (change one filter every three months). single flow valve so the carbon cant leach in the sediment filter and encourage growth of bacteria and algae i dont want. this water is the main feed. for drinking add the panasonic filter catridge (dialysis filter type) that traps any bacteria and other elements. need only be changed annually at 1XX per replacement. the water i get from there i got tested: after 12 months still drinking water quality as per europe requirement. so this is very safe. carbon block is dirt cheap - 5 bucks per pop and the sediment filter can last forever its basically a small sewage system, easy to setup and save enough. no use for UV light and all when you store the water in a bottle afterwards. just keep in colored glass to reduce growth of bacteria etc. and dont keep for more than two days. no need to be over obsessed with the whole thing.

also: RO water is dangerous! without the minerals you can do serious harm to your body if you drink a large amount. reason is osmosis. cells want to be in an equilibrium with the surrounding liquids with respect to water. so now you add RO which has no salt. salt concentration in cell is too high. the cell cant release salt only can take in or remove water. so it will take in water... in extreme cases until cell bursts. stupid system - not only in singapore not recommend but plain illegal in europe.

it's surprising what sort of junk can be posted in the brunei times. they must have the fact-checking skills of infants. WHO is most likely much more spot on than this fellow who apparently works for RO ppl. i wonder what started the idea that drinking pure H2O is healthy. marketing scam i guess. but i also dont believe the ppl who sell alkaline water. a good filtration in the house, closed system (no tank) and an annual lab tast fro the incoming pipe water is good enough. at least for us. and its maintenance free - you just need to micic a sewage treatment plant and add a reusable carbon filter or two at the end.

Jo_da48,

this is very good advice and any serious filter should work like this. we placed single way valve and two (2) carbon filters after the sediment filter to avoid contamination and eliminated the tank entirely = great water. if you take out the chlorine first then the water quality goes south if not consumed. esp. bad if you then put the stuff in a tank. might as well not filter at all.

pana replacement is around 150bucks. i normally change every year. but: i have entry filter over lava rubble + double carbon filters running before hand. so onlything left is minor impurites. on a sidenote: anyone has a solution to fit the panasonic filter under the sink?

i am using a POE filter from panasonic - PJ-37MRF. the cartridge is pretty good but not as a single filter. however i dislike the fact that its not under the sink. looking at the AP easy complete or something similar that i can crank between the pipes. ideally with hollow fibres because i believe this is a great last stage filtration (first stage: volcanic stone, second stage: two chained activated charcoal filters). is anyone aware of a hollow fibre filter that i can mount under the sink and connect in between the normal cold water pipe? filter replacements should not be more than 2-300 RM.

thanks!

thanks i did find the site and frankly is doesnt provide any tech specs at all - or is there a product sheet that i just cant see? i dont even have flow charts for var. incoming presssures, removal rates etc.

hollow fibre you can probably use long but there might be a need to replace. how much would that be?

the carbon block i most definitely want to replace. how much is that?

essentially your system is a larger version of the panasonic filter that i am currently using. this setup works if you have a sediment filter in front. that much i know but i really would want to see specs for the hollow fibres etc - esp. if you want around 2k for it which is very much on the very expensive side for two cartdrige holders, a carbon block (25 bucks) and a hollow fibre block (dialysis filtre with a good flow - around 200 RM).
