Hi all,

since the width i have is only 700mm, finalising the following 3 models, which seems to be the largest that can fit into my space. any suggestion on which one is better?

1) Sharp SJP50MS

2) Hitachi R-V490P8M

3) Toshiba GR-A48MBZ

thanks

Hi, planning to put a fridge at a corner of my kitchen where the right hand side of the fridge is a wall. May I know how big is the distance I need to leave between the fridge and the wall so that the fridge door can be opened fully? Tried to find this info from websites/catalogs but no much info.

Else might need to go to the shop and do a physical measurement sweat.gif

Thanks

Minimum of 4 inches clearance will work but put a soft material protector (rubber bumper) on the wall it wont hit the wall. Six inches will be better but still maintain a rubber bumper so the door won't get dented.

ok thanks

side-by-side vs top-bottom

still in a dilemma on this, can't make up my mind on which one. i have read through google comments but still no clear conclusion can be made. sweat.gif sweat.gif

i believe some of you have gone through this as well. can you share which one did you selected, and if you are happy with it? what are the thing that you like and don't like?

personally i prefer top-bottom as to me it looks bigger and more flexible to store things, but wife prefers side-by-sde as it's easier to organise things hmm.gif hmm.gif

thanks in advance thumbup.gif

First, where are you going to place the fridge?
If there is no obstacle on the left and right side then side by side will be suitable unless you want to bang bang the door on both sides.
*
no wall on both sides, planning to have the fridge at the middle, then tall cabinet at both sides.

as i see on the specs, most of the larger fridges have the depth of around 700++mm. so if my tall cabinet at both sides of the fridge is 600mm depth, it's still ok to fully open the door right?

thanks in advance

Left is Sharp 700+ litres French door. .. 6 years

Right is Hitachi 700+ litres SBS .... 2 years. Bought during mco to store more things.

The Sharp can also considered as top bottom type. The fridge is similar to the top bottom design. The bottom freezer is similar to the SBS. So is 3 in 1.
*
got it, so the Sharp one is like top part fridge with 1 wide compartment area where the bottom freezer got 2 partitions ya

on the fridge part, do you feel 1 wide partition (Sharp) is better or 2 smaller one (Hitachi) is better?

a quick lookup for 2 doors fridge within my budget have a average size of apprx. 750x750x1750 so my cabinet should have at least 900mm in width and 1900 in height?
*
you should also consider if you need a bigger fridge in the future, and size your cabinet accordingly

unfortunately my dry kitchen is quite limited in size so can only go up to 800m in width which mean i could get at least 500l of fridge
*
i see. ok then this might be a good thing as you will not have the chance of spending more money in the future, else your wife might complain that the fridge is too small and need to upgrade tongue.gif

Looking into multi-door fridge, noticed that for some brands e.g. Sharp, the fridge doors close without a center flap piece that will make the right side of the door sits on this flap (not sure what it's called properly).

Just wondering, without the flap, if it will be able to seal close properly? and long term performance? any users can share some experience?

Thanks

for the fridge part, which one is more practical and easier to store stuff? from what i see in the specs, SBS type seems having bigger net volume, but since it's with smaller shelf width, maybe will be less efficient?

thanks

What I did was go to those big electrical shops (HN, HLK, Grand Senheng, etc.), bring along a measuring tape, and start checking all the fridges available there. Of coz you can check from the specs online, but physical touching, seeing the shelves, etc. will make it easier for you to choose.

Currently toying between these 2 models, can't made up my mind yet. I have listed out the + and - points based on my observation for each of them:

1) Toshiba GR-AG66MA (link here)
+ Cheaper (3k vs 3.8k if based on the price in Shopee)
+ Auto ice maker (convenient)
+ Nicer gradient door colour pattern
+ Dairy tray on top of the fridge
+ Door pocket with cover, good for cosmetics with more separation from food stuff
- Auto ice maker (took up some space at both the fridge and freezer area, and if it breaks down then the space will be wasted for nothing)
- Handle need to open from the top of the door instead from the side

2) Hitachi R-VG750PM-1 (link here)
+ Look more elegant and nicer vertical handle
+ Wider with smaller depth, make it easier to put stuff in and out
+ Flexible manual ice maker
- Price is higher (3.8k vs 3k if based on the price in Shopee)
- Only black colour glass door available - fingerprint magnet
- Dairy tray at the bottom of the fridge (above the vege tray)

Would like to see for some comments here, if any other considerations I shall put in place? Any existing users to share some feedback?

Also in term of after sales support, how is Toshiba vs Hitachi?

Thanks in advance

for #1 just buy Midea instead
the brand is stepkid to midea liao, doesn't last, see the lazada reviews
haha but i tot it's midea who's using toshiba's compressor and tech instead?

my current one is from toshiba and it's already 20 years old and still running like new (touch wood)!! that's why it's still in my list tongue.gif

Google up who bought who.
Yes old time Toshiba electronics lasts 30 years, even the washing machine never die just the iron carcass rotted..
However I bought one used for 4 years, I didn't even get to use it for 2 more years, it died before its 6th birthday (not cold) and declared BER (cost me rm400 for a ~1400 bucks 350L size GR-35MD)
*
ya i know Midea acquired Toshiba's home appliances business some years ago, but it's not necessary that Toshiba's products are using Midea's technology. i believe Midea will be using some of Toshiba's tech instead, depending on the needs. e.g. seems that Midea is not selling big capacity fridges yet here based on the website tongue.gif

i think it's a common trend now that they are not designed to last long anymore, same goes for KDK fans, etc.

Got the Hitachi top-bottom fridge VG750PM for less than 3.5k during Lazada sales. SO far running fine but during the startup when compressor is under load, the humming sound is quite obvious even if i stand a few feet away from it. Maybe due to my house is still empty as I haven't move in the stuff yet. Will keep on monitor this.

BTW those interested getting bigger fridge, pls do pay attention to the depth as my cabinet supplier recommended the standard 600mm depth for my fridge cabinet and this big fridge is protruding out a bit too much than my liking. A 650mm depth would be perfect.

Oh man, fridge is such a low tech appliance... why are you guys willing to spent 5-10k on this shit?

i believe it's for those direct japan import models, with some fancy drawers etc

Just to add on why these fridges are so expensive other than import cost, tax etc. These made in Japan fridges use some special insulation for their bodies, so they can be placed in very tight spaces without the need of minimum gaps unlike typical fridges

i see, thanks for the info.

but i do believe the heat still has to go somewhere else. just wondering how they manage this? maybe they reduce the cooling speed to minimise the heat generation?
