Hi all, am looking to buy a new fridge, 400 - 500L, traditional 2-door type. My budget will limit my choices to the usual brands like Pana, Sharp, etc.
I normally buy Panasonic for most of the household things like water heaters, Alkaline water filter, fan, air-con, etc. My current fridge is also Pana NR B320T (bottom freezer), still good but now need to go bigger, except that the plastic tray at the freezer rosak already.
What is the latest situation in the market? My priorities: 1) Long lasting 2) Low power consumption
If given Panasonic, Sharp, Hitachi, Toshiba, Elba, LG, Samsung, how would you rank them? (You can add in any brands that I don't know.)
Some extra info needed advice: a) Freezer on top vs bottom b) Are Korean brands (LG and Samsung) on par with the Japanese?

QUOTE(dayalan86 @ Apr 18 2022, 05:27 PM) Lowest power consumption is Top Freezer Bottom Fridge, but practical use; Bottom Freezer and Top Fridge is better. Reliability Japanese (Panasonic or Sharp) is the best; I am using Samsung now for about 3 years. Had one Warranty Call due to damaged display LED (Warranty call was quick, Samsung Call centre even works on Sundays) otherwise good. Hitachi has poor after sales support and in my case, dubious quality control; hence I wouldn't recommend this brand. Although the free replacement they gave us, is equally trouble free for these 3 years but my previous inverter Hitachi completely died without a chance of revival at the age of 5 years 3 days ( and its a batch issue, defective compressor) I see relatives running Panasonic or Sharp Inverter without a hitch so far, for more than 6 years. Generally Jap Brands > Korean > China brand (Hisense, Midea or Toshiba, which is under licence by Midea at the moment) Hi. Thanks for reply. Me too favour the Japanese brands for the long lasting quality, even though the Korean brands are fancier in design and features. Panasonic or Sharp - Yeah agreed. What about Mitsubishi?

Shopee sellers: Anyone have bought fridges from Shopee before? if buy from shopee, the delivery will not do the installation right? So buyer has to do it themselves is it? How about the 10-years or 12-years warranty? Can we still get it from the manufacturer?

QUOTE(ZeneticX @ May 24 2022, 08:04 PM) I was also asking about this model few posts back but seems like no feedback. If you are ok with bottom freezer and the slightly higher power consumption i think its good to go.... Panasonic should be pretty reliable Agreed. My current fridge is also a Panasonic, and has been running for at least 16 years, not a single incident. The only reason want to change now is because more people stay here now so need to get a bigger one, it is 300L. I'm looking for at least 420L now. It is also a bottom freezer model type, so we are used to it already. Actually, bottom freezer not really consume more power significantly: (Bottom Freezer) NR-BV320XSMY 322L, 374 kWh/year (Top Freezer) NR-BL342PKMY 325L, 360 kWh/year Panasonic Fridges Compare

QUOTE(FusionXY @ May 24 2022, 10:32 PM) I have been using bottom freezer all the while. No issues so far. But mine is old model non inverter type. Yeah, my current one is Panasonic NR-B320T, minimum 16 years in use, bottom freezer too, not a single problem, except that the plastic drawer at the freezer is cracked and cannot find a replacement.

QUOTE(C_ST @ Jun 4 2022, 07:39 PM) I actually bought my Sharp Fridge from PH Store. Within Klang Valley, they send to me using thier own delivery fleet. Everyhting is ok, and the guy in charge of the store's shopee acc is called Aaron or something, don't expect for immediate reply, but at least he will reply. Thanks. Have just bought that Panasonic fridge from them, delivered in two days, their delivery also did the installation. In short-recommended!

Read these from a US site: *Paying more doesn’t get you a better refrigerator. They all have a 7-10 year lifespan nowadays. *As a rule of thumb: the fewer bells and whistles, the better. *Try to keep the ice maker in the freezer, not in the fridge door. It might mean foregoing a door dispenser, but it will save you headaches and money in the long run. https://prudentreviews.com/reliable-refrigerator-brands/

I have purchased the Panasonic bottom freezer for one week already. The fridge works very well so far, but it will produce this loud noise a few times a day. When it started, we could hear it from the staircase (double storey link house, the fridge in the back kitchen), after a few seconds, it goes lower but still audible, and quiets down after a few minutes. There is this white plastic frame at the back of the fridge, pressing it will dampen the sound, if I let go the hand, the noise will come back. Other times, the fridge is very quiet. Noise.mp4Look at the back.movFor comparison, our 16-year old old fridge (also a Panasonic bottom freezer) has much lower motor noise, we could never hear it from the staircase. According to my mother who is at home most of the time, this occurs 5 to 6 times a day. Is there any cause for concern?

QUOTE(ZeneticX @ Jun 16 2022, 04:13 PM) Raise this to Panasonic CS or the seller and see what they say? Perhaps is a good time to review their after sales as well Personally that doesn't sound normal to me. Sounds like those old fridge compressor sound Called Pana today, they will call me to fix a date within two working days. Will update about the progress.

The tech just came and left, without calling me first, luckily I'm at home on a Saturday afternoon.
Showed him the video recording with the noise, and he did some adjustment at the back. Asked me to observe and report if the noise comes back again. Said free service within the first year.
So, kudos to Panasonic's service so far. Do keep the receipt and warranty card, he needs to photo them before performing any job.

Yeah from the shopee seller recommended above. The delivery guys will give the printed receipt and warranty card. And yes-they do the installation too.

And, about Pana fridges, all Juscos have been out of stock according to the one near me, said the problem is with the production, so I quickly ordered one online, scared that they will sell out too, and then the next batch might have a price hike. Funny that Jusco didn't try to push their display unit to me (not that I wanted to), maybe that's the deference between working for yourself or working for someone else.
