oh. u mean copper tubing also eventually will show same issue? just that with steel, that process is faster?

I feel newer fridges are not using pure copper; on the Hitachi at least, the black coating thingy got dislodged, water seeped in and started the Galvanic corrosion process. It might have been a defect from factory; but from my internet research (as I was gearing up to fight Hitachi), many of their fridge all over SEA have such issues and it was mostly related to one batch of fridge using a particular compressor model.

Since, Hitachi was giving us a 50% discount on a new fridge of the same model; our request to them was to allow us to choose another model or just give us a smaller fridge at the 50% value at no cost. To which they were adamant that this is company policy, other customers have accepted in the past and why are we making an issue, yadda yadda and left me with no choice but to file a case against them.

Can consider Toshiba fridges if you did not win the case...
My Toshiba the pipe are copper pipe so it won't corrode.

Already won and Hitachi Replaced a brand new fridge; I guess its a lesson learnt for them as well. Many have just paid the 50% and took whatever they offered.

Harvey Norman black friday sales, brought Samsung RL-4323RBABS 500L RM2591 + extend warranty 4 years RM507, total damage 3098

Prices seem to have increased quite a bit, we purchased this same model 2 years back; only had one issue with the display panel which was repair under warranty.

So far no major issues.

Only thing is that, it lacks the flexi shelf and 2nd drawer in refrigerator compartment compared to the smaller size model.

But love the deep fridge door pocket, which can fit 1.5l bottle and even 2l (A&W) bottle with ease.

yes  fridge , TV  PC power supply ., washing  machines  ,  others  ....  all have  a MOV surge arrestor.  to limit the surge.
But  they  are small kA  ones.    too small  for long term protection  nod.gif

these MOV  takes the hit s/ surge  and  degrade/die . leaving  the appliance no more protection over time.
the  electronics  components in  appliances  take  the surge  hits  and deteriorates  and fails premature .  many cases  of burnt pcb .

look at Belkins  now ...  they change  policy to  2 years Warranty  now  .  vs  unlimited  warranty a few years ago.
they must have got lots of refund claims .
belkins and some other like APC have a LED  indicator that turn RED  when it fails.  means time to get a new one.

my guess  is  belkin know s  that  the  unit can survive at least  2 years  ,/ from their  claim refund data .

the question  is  how long  can the  onboard fridge MOV  last ?
Can it last 10 years  .
hence the reason  to have  double protection against Surge for all your expensive  electronics  . nod.gif

So far been using Cal-Lab Lightning isolator to protect our Fridge & Washing Machine & TV.

The Isolator itself is serviceable and so far, we only had to service it once because the isolator itself got burnt but other devices were protected.

Designed & Manufactured by a Malaysian.

I was told by a fridge repairman that Samsung fridges cant last long. Good for his business la cos he can earn money repairing so many Samsung spoilt fridges... but bad for Samsung fridge owners.

Samsung QC is the pits since 20 years ago, he said. Stay away from Samsung if you can.
*
Most likely since he can't get spares for Samsung.

My Samsung fridge is 3 years old now, without issues and I have a Hitachi which was rendered completely useless at just 5 years due to failed compressor + internal blockage.

I feel Panasonic is still the best bet for longevity, but we ended up with Samsung for internal space practicality. Anyhow, modern day fridge will definitely up lorry at least once after 5 years of age, due to the amount of electronics in them; compared to older models.

I have relatives using 20 year old Samsung, Hitachi and Panasonic without issues. Our Own Sharp Fridge lasted for 19 years without much issues.

my large 3 Door Elba lasted 19 years too...until it spoilt 2 weeks ago. Repairman came...said it costs Rm320. To buy a large fridge like this costs almost RM3000....so Rm320 vs RM3000....I asked to him to repair it. Now the fridge is even more powerful than before rclxm9.gif

He said this model is the last batch of the long lasting ones. Subsequent models will rosak a lot earlier.

Inverter fridges cost a bomb to repair! it will cost almost triple to repair as the spare parts are almost 3 times more mahal.
*
Yeah inverter type costs a bomb to repair, and the new environmental friendly gas, runs hotter. Hence, many design submerge the copper tubing inside the evaporator coil tank instead of just being outside the tank.

Problem is, copper is expensive, so they use sub-par materials and easily corrode. The Hitachi fridge tubing corroded and broke off inside the evaporator tank and sucked up the evaporator tank condensation water into the system; causing it massive blockage (beyond repair).

Apprarently this is a common issue for Hitachi, a certain batch only; mine was replaced FOC by Hitachi but others didn't have similar luck and had to pay 50% to Hitachi for the same exact model replacement.

Some Samsung has similar issues, but haven't seen or read about Panasonic with these kind of issues.

Anyhow, 19 years fridge biggest issue will be power draw. That was why we replaced our old Sharp with Samsung (when the Hitachi failed and we needed a bigger fridge while fighting the case against Hitachi) and also practical design with fridge on top, to make it easier for my parents to get things without bending too much.

Hi, among these two fridge model, which one is more reliable?

LG GCB247SLUV
HITACHI RS800PM0GS

Or any recommendation for large , reliable side by side fridge?
Your input is very much appreciated, Thanks
*
Reliable, I still feel Panasonic is the best. Compared to Hitachi.

Anyhow, we are using Samsung for more than 3 years now; one minor issue which resolved quickly during warranty period.

I went for the Hisense 720L 4 door instead. Got it from Harvey Norman for RM3394, even cheaper than shopee and retail warranty is 3 years vs 2 years online warranty.
https://www.hisense.com.my/product/4-door-i...20l-rq758n4asv/

I actually just received the fridge in the afternoon, had to wait for 4 hours before turning it on. Already 30 minutes past and I can hardly feel any airflow at all and it isn't cold. How long do I need to wait until the fridge is fully operational lol

Let it run overnight empty, next day should be cool

Hi all, am looking to buy a new fridge, 400 - 500L, traditional 2-door type. My budget will limit my choices to the usual brands like Pana, Sharp, etc.

I normally buy Panasonic for most of the household things like water heaters, Alkaline water filter, fan, air-con, etc. My current fridge is also Pana NR B320T (bottom freezer), still good but now need to go bigger, except that the plastic tray at the freezer rosak already.

What is the latest situation in the market? My priorities:
1) Long lasting
2) Low power consumption

If given Panasonic, Sharp, Hitachi, Toshiba, Elba, LG, Samsung, how would you rank them? (You can add in any brands that I don't know.)

Some extra info needed advice:
a) Freezer on top vs bottom
b) Are Korean brands (LG and Samsung) on par with the Japanese?
*
Lowest power consumption is Top Freezer Bottom Fridge, but practical use; Bottom Freezer and Top Fridge is better.

Reliability Japanese (Panasonic or Sharp) is the best; I am using Samsung now for about 3 years. Had one Warranty Call due to damaged display LED (Warranty call was quick, Samsung Call centre even works on Sundays) otherwise good.

Hitachi has poor after sales support and in my case, dubious quality control; hence I wouldn't recommend this brand. Although the free replacement they gave us, is equally trouble free for these 3 years but my previous inverter Hitachi completely died without a chance of revival at the age of 5 years 3 days ( and its a batch issue, defective compressor)

I see relatives running Panasonic or Sharp Inverter without a hitch so far, for more than 6 years.

Generally Jap Brands > Korean > China brand (Hisense, Midea or Toshiba, which is under licence by Midea at the moment)

Shopee sellers: Anyone have bought fridges from Shopee before? if buy from shopee, the delivery will not do the installation right? So buyer has to do it themselves is it? How about the 10-years or 12-years warranty? Can we still get it from the manufacturer?
*
Shopee sometimes slightly cheaper but if delivery is not by seller own transport best to avoid; difficult to claim from seller if got defect or dents.

I prefer to shop at ESH or TBM, as they somehow can match prices or go as close as possible to online offers.

So far bought my fridge and tv from them

Haier Side by Side HRF-689SI(GE) good? its a bit more than the budget. and there is no indication of the energy rating

update: is LG LG 694L  GC-B257JQYL refrigerator good? I heard LG linear compress is bad bad, dk if this uses it or not
*
LG Smart Inverter is supposed to be better than Linear Inverters type.

Benefit of LG is the LG ThinQ App. If you are looking at Haier, I would suggest considering Hisense too and add on extended warranty.
