QUOTE(Kyoyagami @ Aug 27 2008, 12:16 PM)
Of course, why take out 1 for the other? In fact, looking at how people are not satisfied at all with the 15 cents decrease, makes me look at the rakyat as pure steaming piles of ****.
*
QUOTE(PhoenixByte @ Aug 27 2008, 01:46 PM)
Ppl only satisfied when they got it free...but then again, as ppl, they will b*tch on other things pulak smile.gif
*
They increase it by 80 cents and only reduce by 15 cents, of course ppl wont satisfy.

BTW, WTF they keep on saying that we have to follow the global oil pricing? FFS we are exporter of oil.

Maybe its just my simple mind saying this but imagine if you have a rubber estate, would you be praying for an increase in rubber price or a decrease? Why doesn't this formula works with our country who is a net exporter. If the 'gomen' and Petronas does their work, the Rakyat should be praying for a global price oil increase which means more wealth to our country. But now the opposite happens lak, price increase we suffer.

Correct me if I'm wrong. Maybe those who works with Petronas have more undrestanding on this mater.

I think petronas has already done their bit...but it's the gomen that's been messing it up.

I dunno that much about economy though...probably student praktika namedl Kyo can answer this biggrin.gif
*
But the underlying theory is correct. Oil producing country should pray for higher global oil price.

QUOTE(Mudmaniac @ Aug 27 2008, 02:27 PM)
I think that following worldwide gas prices in itself is not a bad thing. Currently, the price per KwH energy generation from solar and wind energy is already cheaper than oil. Think all the diesel generators used in Pasar Malam.
*
Its not a bad thing if our purchasing power increase in line with the global oil increase. Its not currently.

Ideal Scenario,

1. Oil Price Increase
2. Petronas Makes Gazllion
3. Petronas Pays Gomen Gazliion
4. Gomes pass it down to the ppl.
5. Everyone benefits, and don't mind price increase as they has been compensated by better transportation, salary increase or bonus for gomes staff, gomen spends more on country development.

But now, the process stops at number 4.

QUOTE(Mudmaniac @ Aug 27 2008, 02:27 PM)
Low prices means that Malaysians are less inclined to adopt newer more expensive technologies like Hybrid vehicles and Zero Emmisions vehicles. Imagine a Pasar Malam using LED light panels running off Lithium Ion Battery arrays charged during the day with solar energy, with fuel generator as a backup. Think environment also.

Malaysia is not going to be nett exporter forever. Realistically within our lifetimes we will run out.
*
There is an alternative technology which involves extrating Hydrogen from Water (free energy). However it has been supressed by the oil cartel. This is another story anyway.

In regards to the oil running out, this highlights another incompetence of our Goverment. WTF are they doing atm when supposedly we have 15-20 years of oil reserve left.

In Saudi - Dubai, the Sheikh has predicted that their oil will run out by 2010, and they have been doing massive reconstructing in Dubai since the turn of the century. Their plan is to attract tourism and hope the income form this industry will cover the loss in oil revenue. Here no plan at all.

QUOTE(Mudmaniac @ Aug 27 2008, 02:27 PM)
If anything Petronas needs to commit to more alternative energy or battery materials research in collaboration with foreign scientists already hard at work on the matter. (using the money saved from reduced subsidies)
Plus, significantly lower import & road taxes on Hybrid cars would be a nice thing. and where the heck is the Prius? 2000 hybrid technology still missing in 2008.

I want a Prius. sad.gif
*
Petronas is too busy paying millions to the orchestra to worry about this problem. whistling.gif

QUOTE(zio @ Aug 27 2008, 02:43 PM)
Petronas will be happy with higher global oil pricing. It means more profit for them but it doesn't mean they need to share the profit with the Rakyat. A company is still a company. They make money not for us. If you are a shareholder of Petronas, then yes, you will be happy to a certain extent.
*
Petronas should know that it is the Rakyat Oil that they are selling vmad.gif

QUOTE(zio @ Aug 27 2008, 02:43 PM)
For our normal use, the petrol is imported. Low grade petrol for cars ma. Not high grade stuff obtained from our shore. So, of course, you can't expect the petrol boys to use the profit earned exporting petrol to totally cover the cost of importing the low grade petrol. They need to profit you know! So, if price goes up, their cost go up, then the increase is passed on to the consumer.

At least, that is my understanding of how it works. Just like the rubber estate analogy, if you own a rubber estate, sure you will be happy that price of rubber goes up. But when price of rubber gloves go up as well, if you are buying the rubber gloves, you also won't be too happy. And nobody should pray for oil pricing to go up even though we are exporters, because not everything gets passed on down.

At the end of the day, Petronas is an oil company although they are seen as the Government's boy. Their responsibility remains to serve to the betterment of their shareholders, not the Rakyat.
*
Still don't make sense we suffer. Example, We sell 10 barrels at 100 and buy 5 at 100. Profit is 500 rite. Now price increase to 200. We sell 10 barrels and buy 5 barrels. Profit increase to 1000 now.

Using your rubber analogy, when rubber price increase, instead of me buying rubber gloves at higher price, why don't I use my excess profit from selling rubber and build rubber gloves factory and the sell the gloves cheap to my family and at market price to everyone else?

Didn't say its not our Gomen's fault. I just said its probably not Petronas's fault. And fuel price is controlled ma, so they cannot sell it at a lower price just because they can.

Shell and other petrol boys dont get protection unlike our local boy you know. So if you set a pricing thats too low, then Shell and the others complain lor. At least thats what i feel biggrin.gif

Anyway im out of my league here. Too intellectual. IM just a simple man sad.gif
*
Other oil producing countries can sell at cheap price. Like in Dubai even outside companies like Shell also sell at cheap price. Why can't our government follow that model? I guess we are just 40 years too late in complaining cry.gif

Its easy to talk and promise. I dont see any improvement in any of the opposition-governed states other than gimmicks like free water. Of course, they are too busy digging up skeletons of the past government to bother about the actual issues.
My campaign to be PRESIDENT!

*
Thats because they were deprived of funds from the Federal Govt, even most of the state funds were used up by the BN before the election. With careful planning and being thrifty with the money, lets hope the can run the state and manage to pay the loan to the federal govt at the same time. Kelantan has been doing that for 18 years without any Federal funding and they manage to reduce the loan to the Fed Govt.

Oh well, I better stop discussing politics because I don't believe the current gomen is doing a good job but i doubt the opposition can do any better.

I don't see how the dynamics of PKR would work. They have three different views on everything.

Wait i just talked about politics. Damn! tongue.gif

Damn me and my fingers!

You won't know until you try it. If the worst happen, ppl vote for BN in the next election.
