UPDATE: Disney announces in an investor conference call after today's announcement that they intend to make more than one new Star Wars movie, beginning with Episode VII in 2015 followed by Episodes VIII and IX "every other year" and then "we'll go from there."

Holy crap, fanboys!

Not only did the news break today that the Walt Disney Company has acquired Lucasfilm Ltd. for $4.05 billion, but the studio press release also announces that a Star Wars: Episode VII feature film is targeted for a 2015 release! Yes, 2015 will give us The Avengers 2, Justice League of America and now a new Star Wars movie!

This deal means Disney also now owns the Indiana Jones franchise as well as effects firm Industrial Light & Magic and Skywalker Sound.

no more luke skywalker adventures....unless Mark Hamil wanna come back and be the old Luke Skywalker tongue.gif

Yep agree, I hope they start fresh and don't use stuff from EU.

If Mark Hamill is in the movie maybe he'll just sit at his chair at the Jedi Council only, acting like a senile old man like old Yoda was when Luke first met him in Dagoba.

Haha jk. Would be cool to see the old cast return or make a cameo at least.

Episode Vii will be an original story.

http://www.ign.com/articles/2012/10/31/sta...-original-story

Yesterday, Star Wars fans were abuzz with excitement when Disney announced that they had acquired Lucasfilm in a $4.05 billion deal and were prepping a 2015 release for Star Wars: Episode VII.

Now, according to E! Online, a Lucasfilm source said that the plot of the film will be "an original story." This means that Episode VII will not be an adaptation of any existing licensed Star Wars material. So, for those of you with your hearts set on that Thrawn Trilogy, I'm afraid your dreams reside in the Netherworld of the Force.

This RUMOR only adds to the mystery and intrigue surrounding the third Star Wars trilogy, because, well... now we have no earthly idea what it's about.

One person who might have a clue is Dale Pollock, author of the unauthorized biography Skywalking: The Life And Films Of George Lucas. In a chat with TheWrap, Pollock revealed that he was able to read the outlines to Episodes VII, VIII and IX, but had to sign a confidentiality agreement preventing him from revealing the specifics of their contents.

"It was originally a 12-part saga," recalled Pollock. "The three most exciting stories were 7, 8 and 9. They had propulsive action, really interesting new worlds, new characters. I remember thinking, 'I want to see these 3 movies.'"He added that an older version of Luke Skywalker appears in the final trilogy. We'll see if any of these elements remain in the final version of the third trilogy.

So no EU stuff in Ep7 for all you EU fans out there biggrin.gif

Set it in the "Star Wars universe", but make it completely refreshing and barely referencing the first six films.

Think "Prometheus" - set in the "Alien" universe though almost completely unrecognizable.

Sure there will be light saber duels and all, but please make the films with a solid story that you will care about.

Exactly! I think that's the best way to go with.

Rumor: Matthew Vaughn In Talks To Direct ‘Star Wars Episode VII’

user posted image

Earlier today, we ran an article with a rumored director short list for Star Wars Episode VII. Among the names were fan dream like Steven Spielberg, young guns like Neill Blomkamp and up and coming hitmakers like Matthew Vaughn. Vaughn in particular was interesting because he had long been committed to direct X-Men: Days of Future Past, the sequel to his hit film X-Men First Class, but mysteriously dropped out almost two weeks ago. Bryan Singer took over.

Now, our friends at Collider believe they have an explanation for Vaughn’s exit and it’s big. They report Vaughn is in talks to helm Episode VII. While obviously unable to get any kind of confirmation, Collider trusts their source enough to throw it out there, which in itself is a partial validation. Read more after the jump.

No one is going to confirm a director until Disney and LucasFilm release a press release but Collider’s story is certainly interesting. Vaughn had been working on Days of Future Past for months and the timing was extremely suspicious. Many pointed to his previously proven indecision, having left both Thor and First Class, before returning to the latter. If he’s in line for Episode VII however, his exit would prove a point that I believe to be true. Any filmmaker in the world would drop almost anything to have a chance to make a Star Wars movie.

For some – like Joss Whedon – that’s impossible. He’s already committed to a 2015 film. Steven Spielberg also has one coming in 2014, making it virtually impossible for him to truly delve into this world. But by leaving X-Men in the capable hands of Singer, having worked on the screenplay and staying on as a producer, Vaughn could conceivably have the best of both worlds.

Former and current heads of LucasFilm, George Lucas and Kathleen Kennedy, both confirmed last week they’d already been speaking to writers and Vaughn is a writer, as well as director. Looking back as his films, Stardust in particular, you can see a passion of sweeping fantasy.

What would you think about a Matthew Vaughn directed Star Wars film?

Is this why he drop out of First Class sequel?

STAR WARS RUMOR ALERT: HARRISON FORD IS OPEN TO REPRISING HIS ROLE AS HAN SOLO

user posted image

This may be a pretty big rumor, but it's one worth mentioning, me thinks.

So here's the deal: Entertainment Weekly is reporting that Harrison Ford is open to returning to the role of Han Solo. However, the news comes from a "highly placed source." Basically it's just there to tease us and when we confess our love for the idea, it will only reply, "I know."

After getting through the article they wrote on said rumor, it says that Ford will only consider doing it when a.) there's a script b.) there's a director and c.) he gets paid a decent amount. While Ford does have a certain amount of happiness over being involved, he never understood the character of Han Solo and wasn't too shy about his feelings on the subject. In my opinion, if we've learned anything from Harrison Ford, he could give it a big f*ck you and be perfectly content with that. Ford does things on his terms, as he's become a little more outspoken (to say the least) in his old age.

There are no other details in the article, other than a rehash of what little you've already learned about the upcoming EPISODE VII.

Han Solo was one of my first big crushes, so to see him return even at 70 years of age would still rock my Millennium Falcon. But until we get an official word from him or his people, all we can do is say 'yay' or 'nay' on the possibility.

"Why you stuck-up, half-witted, scruffy-looking nerf-herder!"

^would be cool if they can reference that line again in the new film laugh.gif

Hamill looks so badass in that pic. That's how he should look like if he's going to be in the film.

Ford looks alright in Indy 4, not sure about Carrie Fisher though. Last time I saw her was in some slasher flick, Sorrority Sisters or something, I didn't even know that was her in that film. tongue.gif

No, no, no: Snyder, Spielberg, and Tarentino say no to 'Star Wars: Episode VII'

Zack Snyder, of "Watchman" and "Man of Steel" fame, has already denied to helm the film. He told the Los Angeles Times,

"I don’t think I’d be interested in directing it. I’m a huge "Star Wars" fanatic. I just think doing [episodes] seven, eight and nine is just a slippery slope. It’s a whole other mythological experiment I’m excited to see, but it’s a lot of effort."
QUOTE
Next, we have Steven Spielberg. He told Access Hollywood,

"No! No! It’s not my genre. It’s my best friend George’s genre."
QUOTE
Finally, Quentin Tarantino has told EW he's not interested, particularly in a Disney version of the film:

"I could so care less. Especially if Disney’s going to do it. I’m not interested in the Simon West version of Star Wars."

It was revealed on Thursday that Michael Ardnt ("Toy Story 3") has written a 50-page treatment for "Episode VII" and is a likely candidate to scribe the screenplay. Once again, "Star Wars: Episode VII" is targeted for a 2015 release.

George Lucas and Kathleen Kennedy on the new Star Wars trilogy, picking a director & Georgie's new role:

Disney Wants to Release 2 to 3 STAR WARS Films PER YEAR!

user posted image

Disney is going to re-launch Lucasfilms Star Wars franchise in 2015 with Star Wars: Episode VII. When this awesomeness was first announced, they said that we would be getting one new Star Wars film every two years. It looks like we're going to get a hell of a lot more Star Wars than that though!

Fanboys and fangirls are going to be in Star Wars bliss. In a recent interview with EW, Lucasfilm President Kathleen Kennedy revealed that the studio wants to pump out "two or three films a year"! How insanely cool is that?! It's crazy to think that there will be a point that every year we will get a new Star Wars movie!

It makes sense. Hell, Marvel pumps out two to three Marvel movies a year. This would go along with Lucasfilms' rumored plan to build a Marvel style movie universe for Star Wars that will include offshoot movies focusing on individual characters!

I'm extremely excited about this, how can I not be?! I was hoping that something like this would happen! I couldn't help but think though... "what if people get burnt out on Star Wars movies?" Then I thought, "Are you kidding?! If you're a Star Wars fan you'll never get burnt out!" Think about it, we fans continue to spend money on seeing the same Star Wars movies over and over again everytime they are re-released in theaters and various forms of home entertainment. Of course we're going to happily jump at the new stuff! Then there's the Marvel comparison... the movies just get better and better, and I can't wait for more Marvel movies! The Star Wars universe is just as big and even more exciting to me! So yeah, if Disney brings us three Star Wars movies a year, I will excitedly show up for every one!

Bring it on Disney/Lucasfilm! As a huge Star Wars fan this is exactly what I want!
