Joss Whedon -- Nah.... he already got Avengers 2, the SHIELD tv series and possibly other Marvel cinematic universe stuffs to worry about...
Peter Jackson -- After directing the trilogies, King Kong and coming back to LOTR for another trilogy... I don't see him as a suitable pick
Guillermo del toro -- Currently involved with Pacific Rim... and is focused on bringing At the Mountains of Madness to the big screen... as Del Toro stated, the
studios rejected the At the Mountain of Madness adaptation because of it not having a love story or a happy ending.
Which fits Del Toro style of heavy realiance on art direction/costumes.... Star Wars is at it's core a narrative driven movie.
George Lucas himself --- If the guy wants to do it... he would've done it already...
Lets move on to the list...
No. 3: James McTeigue

Worked as the assistant director for the Matrix trilogy and Star Wars Episode II: Attack of the Clones... He would later go on to direct V for Venddeta..
Although his recent efforts had received less fan fare... he could potentially serves as a valuable producer..
No. 2: Robert Zemeckis
Bob mentor was none other then Steven Spielberg... that alone could have explained why Nolan and the gang opted him to direct Man of Steel... Adding to the
list is the Back to the Future trilogy and Forrest Gump and the soon to be released Oscar cotender Flight.... The only reason he's not on the top of the list is
because at 61 years of age.... I do believe Mr Zemeckis is looking for something more serious...
Now on to the the wild cards....
Any of the Harry Potter directors, Rupert Wyatt (Rise of the Planet of the Apes), Joseph Kosinski (Tron: Legacy)
No 1......
