A question: Can i hav an OS Xp and Vista on my current system which means, now im using Xp Serv Pack2, and i buy another 2nd HDD n then install a Vista Os on it..
So, at any time if i want to use vista, i simply go in bios, swicth to the 2nd Hdd to make it boot from it using the Vista Os..
Can it be done?
Hav any do it??
Or cannot??

case scenario 1) if you have very strong graphic card and very high RAM and processor, not forgetting great cooling system, no prob, you can even get another HD and install linux

case scenario 2) if your pc works just good enough curently using xp, sorry to say, vista is going to kill your pc

yes it can be done. just need some changes or editing in the vista or xp boot file. depends which one you install first. actually you don't need to go to bios to set which hard disk you want to boot from, it's a lil bit troublesome IMHO. you can try google up dual-boot vista and xp, there are many ways and instructions to guide you.

yes, it can done, but microsoft don't recommended it and so am i. there alot of issue in dual OS, such as stability and speed.
For some reason that u still wanna dual OS i recommend u install both OS in separate HDD.
HDD1 = WinXP
HDD2 = Win Vista

During OS installation i recommend onli plug in the 1st HDD in without plug in the 2nd ones. (if ur bios can disable a HDD is much easier)
After installation of the 1st HDD is finish, unplug it then install the 2nd OS on the 2nd HDD without plug in the 1st HDD

After both finish, plug in both HDD, go to bios then set for which HDD to boot
By doing this during OS booting up, it will not prompt for OS selection.
Its much stable this way.

Same HDD 2 partition or more... Install Xp first.. then install vista... ... there u have it.. dual boot.

yes...follow the instruction by danieljoy... u cannot install in different HD... Same HD and same MBR..

1) You don't need a very high end graphic card nor RAM nor processor. And what does cooling has to do with VISTA?? This is not O/C!!!!
For VISTA, 1GB is sufficient.(But 2 GB is recommended..heck..even 2GB for XP is recommended...RAM so cheap). My old Athlon XP can run VISTA with 768MB and Aero Interface with a 6200 and my laptop with integrated 6100 Geforce Go also can run Aero Interface. All you need is a DX9 card, nothing special.

2) It is NOT going to kill your system.

TS: You don't actually need a separate HDD for VISTA, same HDD with separate partition will do. And i don't think multi O/S in a PC will have any effect on performance becoz only one is active any one time. I've 4 OS in my PC....XP, VISTA, MAC OSX, UBUNTU..no problem at all.

Basically:
1) Partition your hard disk.(if needed)
2) Install XP on partition 1/hdd 1.
3) Install VISTA on partition 2/hdd 2.

Done.

VISTA will automatically detect your XP OS and present a menu to boot from each OS.

by looking on ur shiggy should be no problem on that...i'm oso using xp and vista wz different hdd....

Remember to install XP then only Vista...
XP bootloader cannot detect vista..
Only Vista bootloader can detect XP.

Look at ur rig. Of coz 100% can. U hv xp installed rite? Juz installed vista on 2nd hdd then all done. Don't need to go to bios, an option will appear on startup

for me i use 1 HDD 80gb for os
partition 1 > winxp
partition 2 > vista
partition 3 > ubuntu

then another HDD 400gb data

install
xp>vista>ubuntu

but do remember better u install at separate HDD than all in 1 HDD

but remember if you reformat either one of the os you have to edit the boot loader again

actually this dual boot (OS) thing is not a really big deal, nothing much diff than u use single OS, it just give some satisfaction to certain group of peoples to enjoy all features in that multiple OS, i'm also an ex- dual boot user, previously doing it because that time certain games still not optimize (in terms of patch) in vista and stable in xp, but at the same time i was eager to use new features in vista (like aero theme, dreamscene) and i felt quite easy to use vista for watching movie & anime, so installed both OS... but now since most of games can be played in vista without no problem (and also due to not enuf space in my hdd, and dun have money to buy a bigger 1), decided to have Vista only, quite satisfy with it...

for those said vista can kill ur sytem, pls give me ur evidence, dun just say it bluntly...

actually vista not killing the system..its oni eat more resource than XP because of its interface,so if u like the vista interface,bear with that, if dont turn back to XP, for me im still using dual boot, XP just for my modding activity, other than that, im using vista..but for now, my XP have not been booted almost 3months!
