Anyone know when the Rayven will be available in Malaysia? It's already been reviewed on SG Nerf's blog. I hope we can buy extra 18-dart clips separately, then I'll fit them into my Deploy and my son's Recon too!

Whiteout Longstrike is RM179.90, though, compared to the regular blue one which is usually on discount. Whiteouts are generally supposed to shoot further than the regular versions, although my Whiteout Deploy can't even shoot as far as my son's regular Recon. It shoots with a loud CRACK compared to the THUNG which the Recon makes. Maybe the Whiteouts just have their air restrictors removed or something? It's darned noisy, yet doesn't seem to shoot as well. It's all pure luck.

You should still be able to find the Longshot in Singapore, though - try asking on SG Nerf's blog? Unmodified it's no different from the Longstrike, and doesn't look as nice, but its potential for modification is much better. A modified Longstrike can only go up to 50-60 ft or something, while people say that a modified Longshot can go up to 100ft.

i disagree on this. if you check the internal of both guns, you can clearly see the longshot is still superior unmodified. longshot has the biggest plunger tube amongst the n-strike series, plus it uses a direct plunger system instead of an inverse plunger like recon, longstrike, raider and etc. this forces more compressed air. longstrike's plunger system is similar to recon even in size. so how can an unmodified longstrike be superior to a longshot?

No idea, really. Just quoting what all the review sites and forums say. I have never owned either. You're probably right, then.

Maybe they have a weaker air restrictor or something? The sound my Whiteout Deploy makes sounds like the sound the modded regular Deploy makes in the videos such as this one:-

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=imHw0jyZt4A

They show the before and after, and my Whiteout Deploy, out of the box, looks and sounds exactly like the "after" scenario. Maybe all Whiteouts are like that?

Thanks for the tips - makes me really want to get a Longshot next time I go to SG. Will unmodded Longshot shoot further than a Whiteout Longstrike? I play with my 6-year old kid and don't want to mod anything.

prolly i'll try find at jusco or parkson, cos i can get vouchers for either.
then can get for free liao teehee

eh guys, the longstrike/shot got mods one right? wat are the mods available, and can make to do wat? shoot further and stuffs?
*
The Longstrike, like the Recon and Deploy, have a "reverse-plunger" system which limits the effectiveness of the range mods, I think. If you want to mod your sniper rifle for range you should get a Longshot (either online or from SG, I don't think they can be found in Malaysian shops anymore). Modified Longstrike can still shoot further than regular Longstrike, but just not as far as Longshot. I'm also not sure if the Longstrike can actually shoot further than a Recon by default. It *looks* like a Sniper Rifle with a long barrel, but the barrel actually decreases range. Maybe someone who owns them all can give you better advice.

The Whiteout variant is supposed to shoot further, but a) it's luck whether you get a gun which shoots well or not (same with most guns, I think) and b) the Whiteout has no discount at the moment.

Wah, so great this thread suddenly so active!

BTW NERFTOUR3 is on Jan 8, USJ4 subang. registration 9am, play 10 am. details at www.nerfmalaysia.com

after reading all the above replies here's the rundown:

1) All Whiteout blasters have been upgraded, as they are built to combat vortex users.

2) Current 4th Gen Recons and 4th gen mavericks are the most powerful stock blasters at the moment.

3) Dart Tag series is relaunching in 2012 in Malaysia

4) Longshot, Alpha Trooper, currently not available in Malaysia

5) Modded blasters are usually fun to undertake but severely shorten the life of the blaster. we can do it for you too! Usual mods are like AR removals, lock removals, spring swap, and anti jamming. email nerfmalaysia@gmail.com for a quote.
*
I thought it was the Gear Up series which was built to combat Vortex users? Or was that just PR, and the Whiteouts are the real thing? My Whiteout Nite Finder doesn't shoot any different from my son's normal version, and my Whiteout Deploy is just terrible - fires so loud as if there's no air restrictor, but yet can't even shoot as far as my son's normal Recon. Maybe my son just got lucky with his guns! smile.gif

If you don't want to mod your gun you can always mod the dart - putting a piece of drinking straw inside the hole at the back of the dart reduces the friction and makes the dart fire further. Just don't point the loaded gun downwards if it's the "insert in the front" type of gun like the Rapid Fire, Hornet, Nite Finder or Element (or the Buzzbee Tek 10, Tek 6 etc) otherwise the darts might fall out, though.

*
I saw the NERF Jolt in 1Toy, AmCorp Mall today, selling at RM15.90 each. That thing shoots REALLY far...

They also had a couple of Scouts - haven't seen those before. According to the NERF wikia, they're apparently VERY good with Streamline darts if you need a sidearm to go with your clip-system gun.

Hahaha - you'll be surprised how many of us are mature and awesome men. That we enjoy firing foam darts at our kids and each other only adds to that awesomeness!

I saw the Whiteout Longstrike at Metrojaya, the Curve, today. Whiteout Deploy and Nite Finder were still available too.

EDIT :- There's one Whiteout Longstrike left in Toys r Us in Great Eastern Mall. That place also had 3 Gear-Up Recons in stock (I don't remember seeing those around for awhile now).

Anyone spot a gear up or whiteout Maverick Rev-6? smile.gif

I've not seen either since late last year. The only Whiteouts I still see around are the Longstrike, Deploy and Nite Finder (and even this one is rare now). The Gear-Ups are just the Raider and Recon, I think. The rest seem to have disappeared from the shelves - will keep an eye out for you.

I've never seen the Spectre in Malaysia (but then I only started looking in Q4 last year, so it might have sold out before then).

On a side note, they say that the Whiteouts are extra-powerful compared to the normal blasters in oder to help them combat the Vortex guns. Are the Gear-Ups similarly souped-up, or are they just gearing up for Vortex in name only?

If it was brought to Malaysia then it would be in MJ. It's a Target exclusive, and in Malaysia for some reason MJ gets all the Target exclusives. Looks like a nice gun too!

Added on February 24, 2012, 2:31 pmSaw the Rayven for sale at TRU Ikano today - RM169.90 might seem quite expensive, although we are paying for a high-tech lightup 18-dart clip as well as the high-tech flywheel gun.

Last night I saw the Spectre and Alpha Trooper for sale in vHobby in Megamall - just under RM90 each. If I hadn't already gotten the Rayven I'd have gotten an Alpha Trooper just for the 18-dart clip. They also had a few new Dart Tag guns, but I don't remember their names.

If I got a new Gen-4 Deploy, would it be really easy to swap the internals with my Whiteout Deploy (which shoots like an exhausted stud), or are the internals welded onto the casing? I like the design and colour of the Whiteout Deploy, it's just no fun when it can barely reach half the distance my son's Recon can.

The new Elite streamline darts are wicked - I just got a couple of 18-dart clips + 18 darts packs, and they fire further than regular streamlines. My lousy Whiteout Deploy can actually fire at a decent range now, and my son's Recon is just deadly. The 18-dart clip doesn't work well on the Deploy, though - either it hangs to the left and makes it really heavy, or you move it vertical and it blocks your targeting sight. It's awesome on the Recon, though. Really cool of NERF to release 18-dart clips like that, instead of making people buy Stampedes just for the clips.

I'm wondering - is there any point in getting a N-strike gun anymore? The Elite series seems so much more powerful. I was thinking of getting a green Recon but given that the Retaliator is basically the exact same model (with no light and flip-up sight, a different stock, and that handle accessory which you can fit under the barrel) and shoots more than twice the distance and has a larger clip, I'm seriously thinking of getting the Retaliator instead. Even the Longstrike, supposedly the sniper rifle of the N-Strike series, boasts a range of up to 35 feet on the box, while the Elite series guns all boast up to 75 feet. That's more than twice the range of the Longstrike. The Whiteouts were supposed to have better performance, but the Elites have rendered the entire N-Strike series obsolete. Retaliator has replaced Recon while the Rampage has replaced the Raider. Hailfire is a completely new model and looks really scary to boot - the large ammo capacity (8x6-clips) probably means it's meant to replace the Stampede, but at least it's a different design. The only downside is that there aren't quite that many accessories in blue/white right now - even if you cannibalise from the Longstrike and Raider, you don't get any laser lights or scopes - but hopefully later we'll see more accessories. Yellow accessories on the blue/white gun look quite ugly. I also can't wait for an Elite-series sniper rifle. I was so looking forward to getting a Longstrike sometime this year for Christmas, but now I think I'll wait for something better. I also wonder if the Elite series will release smaller guns soon too - the non-streamline guns like the Maverick would be deadly if they went up to 75 feet (and probably hurt like hell with a Dart Tag dart). Even now, the Jolt with a new blue Elite dart is one scary little cili padi.

That must have been some incredible technology breakthrough over the last year. Even the Rayven seemed to have much better performance than the other N-Strikes, but the Elite ranges are just ridiculous.

the longstrike has the same internal as a recon. so no way it can perform any better. longshot is the only exception, (the only)huge direct plunger system.  flex.gif

Yeah, just that it's marketed with the range on the box while the others aren't, so I chose that as comparison. Is the Longshot's default range much better than the others? I thought it was just because of the modable direct plunger system. It'll probably still lose to the Elites, though - are they based on direct plunger or reverse plungers? If they were direct plungers I can only imagine how far they'll shoot after modding.

You can find lots of them in Toys R Us. But I'm currently having problem looking for whistler darts. From all the stores I've been to, I can only find the elite darts. Any idea guys?

I saw quite a few Whistler darts in vHobby in Mid valley Megamall (they moved to the new floor above the food court), but they're the camo type, not the orange type. If you're going to use them outdoors they might be a bit of a pain to find in the grass. Current offer packs in a free Element with the darts too, although it's just the gun without the nifty scope and light.
