The laptops are pretty much the same... but there's ONE MAJOR drawback - the keyboard. Japanese keyboard arrangement is different and it's really really rare to find the normal US keyboard. So, your plan to buy in Malaysia before coming here is good.
and yes, any normal laptop in Malaysia should work just fine here (except perhaps the power adapter connector which you might just need to get a converter for it (3-pin to the 2-pin).
yea, agree with pschzz. i bought my laptop im msia b4 coming here and im glad i did.
another thing if you buy laptop/desktop in jp, the os and software are all in jp. but if you know jp already then no problem la
i dun call much cuz dunno many ppl there yet..might even get a phone later when needed.. then i try to save elektrik and water...gas probably not cooking so much..internet will be using...u think i canmanage to limit to 10k yen?
if you got the monbukagakusho scholarship then dun worry so much about bill lah. sure you can limit your bills to <10k yen if you take drastic measures (bathe once a week , dun use heater during shower, dont use aircond/heater, dont cook) but can u tahan with this kind of lifestyle?
actually, cooking meals at home might be cheaper than eating out everyday
but if got phone oso will not communicate with ppl back in malaysia cuz so expensive,..sure will use internet cheaper...then dunno much ppl there just pay so much everymonth for me to call embassy when emergency? sounds expensive le.. clemong, u use your phone often?? made many friends there when u first went to japan?
ultimately its your choice if you think getting a phone is a waste of money. but if you'll be coming here to study im sure your supervisor or japanese friends want some kind of way to contact you. dont tell me you'll be coming to japan just to be a hikkikomori?
bout bill..yeah a bit different with students and working people duh...phyczz n fire is working people Asuk is studying right Asuk...so anyone still confusing bout budget to use during study period in Japan should ask Asuk, is that ok Asuk? For me Asuk can accept ppl question without argument i think so hehehehe
kesimpulannya, 3ppl here r working (fire, tanoshi, psychzz) & 2 studying (me, clemong). am i rite?
its in japanese by the way. couldnt find any news regarding it in the english sections. maybe they dont want foreigners to think that japanese like to jump in front of trains
everytime lol..even single second...sorts like 'ki iroi sen made osagashi kudasai' 'mamonaku.... densha ga mairimasu' 'abunai desu kara ashimato ni go chui ku dasai' even I not really understand what its mean..hahaha
u must use the train very often to be able to memorize all those same like when i was in singapore, can still remember those mrt announcements even in tamil & mandrin
i saw some jap pals throw peanuts out the window today and i was told that today is setsubun. its supposedly to get rid of bad luck and to usher good luck for the new year
speaking of shinkansen, i just spent 3 hours on it back from osaka. about the special ticket just to enter & take photos of the shinkansen, that's the first time i heard of it too. as a consolation, here's a pic of shinkansen kodama:
if put in luggage then no problem. i even brought a big bottle of minyak cap kapak. if hand carry im not too sure though, maybe they're a bit more strict
Asuk..eh OPPAI means 'tetek/breast' correct me if i'm wrong..
explain a bit lor what kind of snack or foods is that?
the curly thing before the word 'Pie' looks like an 'o'. so i read it aloud as opai then my japanese friends all laughed at me and told me the meaning. unfortunately the snack doesnt look like oppai at all but if you want oppai-shaped pudding, i saw them selling at tokyo station
keropok , shud check the content, i.e some DORITOS (if not mistaken, bbq one, got traces of butaniku - i sudah kena last time, kaw kaw kena gelak by my friend).

Asuk...what da ya means by KEROPOK? is it from Malaysia or here? if here then IF you talk bout halal thingy lah right, the keropok should be not related with any 'chicken and beef' otherwise all ok! thanks Asuk..still thinking what to bring.
point taken. no bbq or meat flavored keropok. thanks for the info.
