I just obtained an unlocked iPhone 1.1.4 today from someone who recently bought it in USA. It works fine with my SIM card (in malaysia), but there is no Installer icon in it. After much searching, i found out that Installer is available from apptap.com. I used a Windows PC and downloaded the Installer for Windows. When i run the installer setup, it prompts me for iPhone versions 1.0.0, 1.0.1, or 1.0.2 only. Am I out of luck? What should I do?

All help appreciated.

In much stress,
Lukas

Ah... i always thought unlocking and jailbreaking is the same thing. Still don't know what the differences are between the two. Guess there's A LOT about iPhone that i do not know.

Since iLiberty does both unlocking and jailbreaking, and my iPhone is already unlocked, will running iLiberty still work? Which options should i choose when i run iLiberty amongst the many options presented: eg. unlock, jailbreak, activate, youtube fix, setup installer, downloading bootloader, etc. My iPhone just acquired today is 1.1.4. and it's bought in US, but i live in Malaysia. Currently, i can use it for phone call (incoming and outgoing) and sms.

Thanks.

After 15 replies, there is still no definitive response as to what I should do. If i go ahead and run iLiberty, which of the options should i select (jailbreak, activate, youtube fix, unlock, downgrade bootloader, cydia )?? My iPhone (1.1.4) currently can make calls and do sms, but doesn't have the Installer icon.

Can someone who really knows this stuff provide a definitive answer? Much thanks.

Hmm.....ok, here: http://www.iclarified.com/entry/index.php?enid=849

FYI, google will always your best friend.

the documentation in iclarified.com doesn't specify which options to select for someone in my situation. hence, i'm still back to square one.

hmm.... i thought there're many gurus here, but i guess they're hiding. smile.gif doesn't someone here know which of those 6 options (see my previous posting) i need to select when i run iLiberty? sad.gif

Much thanks for your response, Frozzbyte, which is the only specific, relevant, to-the-point and useful response that i have seen so far (sad to say). I think I shall take your advice and wait for FW2.0.

Thanks again to those who tried to help.

Sorry lukasl. Seems like we were discussing about something else that we've forgotten about your problem.

Ok here goes. Seems like we/you don't know what kind of jailbreaking method was used, its not safe just to assume whether it was with ziphone or iliberty. So here is my suggestion. Just wait for a week or so since FW2.0 is already out and the means to jailbreak/unlock it is almost done. But there's a trade off with this, most of the existing app from installer are not compatible with FW2.0. All or most of the developers will port existing app to work with FW2.0 but it may take some time (for testing purposes). The other option would be pwning it with winpwn. This would be the best tool (for windows) at the moment. It would also be a good choice to restore back since you don't know what kind of application was used the last time it was jailbreak and start evereything fresh. The plus point to this, you get to enjoy the abundance of app from installer or cydia. But remember one thing, the developers are gearing up to embrace FW2.0 and they might not support 1.1.4 and below anymore.

If you are not that interested with the new firmware than just use winpwn and restore back to 1.1.4. (Please read more and ask about winpwn)

If you are interested with FW2.0, wait for it and u just have to live without installer for few weeks.

Its your call.

p/s - running iliberty now when you don't know what method/application was used before would cause undesirable consequences. You might end up restoring it back.
