QUOTE(Namqul @ Jul 7 2008, 09:45 PM) hmmm, since donald asked, im asking too. lol. im not much of a guitar player but for the past month, ive been looking around for a good acoustic guitar to settle down with. lol~ i went to bentley, tried out taylor's 112e if im not mistaken, but i dont dare to try the expensive one in the room. also have the chance to try takamine. visited guitar collection, tried some martin, seagull, and some other stuff. i also went to the guitar store and tried maton, and finally went to beatspot to try out some yamaha. and no buying yet. pity them. heres the question, im still wondering why is it that yamaha's cpx900 is the easiest to play with. anyone can explain this? If you would kindly state your budget. I too have tried many acoustic guitars, I'm not much of an acoustic player, but my friend is, so as an excuse to window shop I have tried a number of acoustic. You prefer dreadnoughts or smaller bodies like Grand Auditoriums/ Concerts or huge Jumbos? If your budget is bout 4000 I'd recommend Breedlove's Atlas series, available in SMX Solid Spruce top, Solid Indian Rosewood back, laminated rosewood sides If it's about 2500 I'd suggest a Martin 000X1, available in various places, such as Tonezone studios Solid Spruce top, laminated mahogany back/sides The Breedlove Atlas has a relatively bright sound, and very very rich harmonic tone. The Martin 000X1 is darker, though with the OM body, it's warm but has nice smooth highs. Less complex sounding than the Breedlove though, but that's a different guitar altogether. **posted here, cuz the other thread was suddenly suspended. |

Laminated back/sides tend to contain alot of glue since they're laminated, thus the glue absorbs some of the vibrations from the string, causing difference in tone (ie duller) and reducing some sustain. But if the guitar sounds good to your ears, plays good in your hands, does it really matter what others think ? Of course there's bragging rights lah, but then again, you can always brag my cheaper guitar sounds better than yours xD of course if that is the case lah =p My friend has this SX dreadnought, solid spruce top and laminated mahogany back/sides sounded alot better than many dreadnought guitars under 2k, namely some epiphone acoustics and art&lutherie, seagull, and quite a few others. And that guitar cost 450 MYR only =/ aik SMX closed on weekends d ar? nooooo T_T This post has been edited by sean392: Jul 8 2008, 01:12 AM |

Crap. I just found out. Chicago has the HIGHEST Sales tax in the country. 10.52%.....
Eep. That means if I buy a 1k USD guitar, that's an EXTRA 105 USD bucks.... Hm......... Opfish could get me a better deal on the Schecter in that case...... Unless I REALLY GAS on something big...... |
