QUOTE(zoeyhanz @ Feb 3 2009, 06:19 PM) so is it for prevent mites or if our hedgie get mites then v spray? i know most are only applying frontline on their hedgehogs if they're infested with mites, but i also know several owners who regularly sprayed frontline (about once a month) to prevent mite problems.hedgie wil get mites if i jz keep 1 onli? y they wil get mites ar? is it bcz the box nt clean? i means din manage ths poo n pee proper? ><?? it's hard to know how the mites came about, it could be the bedding, exposure to outdoor or to other pets. poor husbandry is definitely another reason, but it's not easy to know how your hedgehog initially got mites beneath its quills. you may even purchase a hedgehog which already has mites if the breeder or petshop didn't take proper care before they sell. QUOTE(Vanda @ Feb 4 2009, 12:56 PM) Hi ! quite new around here..gettin a hedgie this saturday ! check the garage sales, i just saw a zoozone 2 for sale at RM150, which is pretty much near the price of a brand new one if you can find any. for your information zoozones are no longer in production, so you'll most likely find second-hand ones only, or if you're lucky enough to come across petstores that still have new ones in stock.already did some research..erm i live in ampang area..where to buy those zoozone containers eh ? looks nice..i rang up pet wonderland they said they dont sell all those .. any of u guys know pet shops in kl area that sell hedgehog stuffs ? any advices for a new hedgie owner ? lol.. there's no particular petstores that caters to hedgehog stuffs, but most of the stuff you'll need are similar to cat, hamster, guinea pigs, etc's accessories, so it shouldn't be much of a problem to buy items for your hedgehog. |

QUOTE(Vanda @ Feb 4 2009, 04:10 PM) allright..thanks man.. i'm not so sure how a faunarium looks like, but if it can't fit in a wheel then i honestly think it's a bit too small for the hedgehog to even move about.anyway..i juz bought 1 of those faunarium..more like an aquarium ..i think a wheel cant fit in..what should i do to make my hedgie exercise ? i asked the dealer at pet wonderland..she said buy a ball for my hedgie..those balls i think are meant for hamsters..duno hedgie can fit in those things..put it inside that ball than can walk2..lol.. btw..3 months old hedgie giv ordinary catfood or kitten food ? don't purchase those exercise balls, they're meant for hamsters, and hedgehogs are a few times bigger than the rodents, they will definitely have trouble running in the ball. hedgehogs are a little clumsy and not as agile as rodents, if i've not mistaken usually the balls will have some hole gaps for aeration and if your hedgehog gets its leg stuck in it while running they can break it. i don't know how's the defination of ordinary catfood or kitten food, but personally for me the closest diet for hedgehog is RC fit32, but it's still not their best diet percentage. but i'm feeding my hedgehogs babycat 34 because of picky hedgehogs. |

there's no particular ways to carry your hedgehog. the safest way is of course scooping it up and let it move its legs onto your palm.
to be honest, it's all down to your mind. picking up a hedgehog, even with its quills resting on your hand, isn't painful to some people, but there are some who can't stand the thought of sharp things connecting with their flesh. once you've overcome the fear then you'll be able to pick it up easily. |

just leave the wheel in the cage and you'll spot 'evidence' of them playing in it in the night. trust me, all hedgehog owners will tell you the same.

QUOTE(elfreakz @ Feb 10 2009, 04:46 PM) i know midvalley's pets wonderland and ikano's pet safari are selling hedgehogs. if we're not talking about chain petstore, i recall PJ seapark's irene's aquarium having hedgehogs in the floor above. other than that, a few smaller petshops in residential areas sell hedgehogs as well, but you'll need to look around. |

QUOTE(Vanda @ Feb 10 2009, 08:13 PM) i guess u should find a breeder rather than buy from a petshop to save $$..pet shops sell hedgies around rm400~500 while if u buy from a breeder rm100~300.. usually around once or twice a week, i usually feed 2-3 mealworms per serving.eh u guys..how often u guys feed ur hedgies mealworms ? and how often u feed ur mealworms with bread or whatever ? but treat it as a snack, if your hedgehog looks unhealthily fat, then omit the mealworms from their meals. although mealworms are a good source for protein, they also contain very high % of fat. |

QUOTE(Vanda @ Feb 12 2009, 09:37 AM) i red in this forum that toilet roll is hedgies toy..so i tried put 1 in romeo's cage..it started sniffing n then played with it all nite.. yes, it's considered a toy for hedgehogs, but i think you should cut one side of the toilet roll with scissors so that it's flexible.u just leave the toilet roll there n off the lights..then it will play with it..when u hear sounds banging here n there..means it is playing with it.. it could be dangerous for hedgehogs if they get their head stuck in the toilet roll and couldn't come out. if left unmonitored, it could cost their life as they may die of thirst or hunger. if i've not mistaken the first page shows the safety measures if you are to use toilet rolls as toys for hedgehogs. |

QUOTE(toottut89 @ Feb 16 2009, 06:41 PM) yeah i found it already thanks guys. appreciate it. but dr yeoh on leave today. i haven't had experiences in that, you sure it's urinating blood or there's some injuries near the belly? if your hedgehog is really urinating blood the only viable advice is look for a vet, and dr yeoh's pretty good with hedgehogs. hope your hedgehog's alright.anyone knows the cause of a hedgehog urinating blood? worried here. QUOTE(zoeyhanz @ Feb 16 2009, 11:33 PM) haha.....finally made the wheel 4 my hedgie^^ is the stripe already there all these while or just appeared recently? if recently, you may want to check the items in the hedgehog cage which can cause injuries, hedgehogs are, after all, very clumsy. it won't surprise me if it got its leg stuck somewhere or fell off the wheel or something.it got play n i hope it like it~!! ^^ but.......it really did poo on it.... any ideas or way can teach it dun poo thr mah....? n....i saw one of it's leg red n a bit red or brown colour stripe,is it kinda illness? |

maybe for safety precaution, just in case it climbs out, perhaps you can consider putting the cage on the floor instead of on top of a table.
if your hedgehog really climbs out, at least the fall wouldn't be that bad. |

currently i don't see anyone posting any ads selling hoglets, although there's one who's letting go a 4-month old hedgehog together with all the caging and accessories. not sure if she's sold it, you can try searching in the garage sales and see if you have any luck.

QUOTE(mattemily_85 @ Feb 23 2009, 12:22 PM) today maybe i'm going to make a 2 lot housing that using a 4 inch PVC pipe for connecting the old house to a new house, yesterday nite my Spooky really active keep on running at the wheel all nite long till the wheel scratching sound very loud haha... um, maybe you can handle it when the quills are not erected? i want to get zoozone but heard this housing already has been stopped prod at market so i have no choice had to make own bigger housing,1 more thing i really curious want to know that how come all sifu2 can handle the hedgie at palm ya while the spine pooked up?as i know from the info from page 1 is not recommended to handle them with gloves.i really cannot tahan leh her spines hahaha, we don't pick up the hedgehogs when it has its quills all up, it's a sign of being defensive. let it cool down a bit, perhaps will require a couple of minutes or so, once it's familiar with you i don't think it'll raise its quills when you put your hand nearby to pick it up. about the pain issue, i think it's more btw, i think the 2nd-hand zoozone in garage sales is still available. |

did you remove the remaining overnight kibbles? don't add up to the existing in the bowl as some hedgehogs pick their food. sometimes if the kibbles don't smell 'fresh' enough, they won't eat it. maybe a kibble a two, but that's all.
always dispose the overnight kibbles regardless of how much it eats. also, it the food sealed tight in the packaging or tupperwares after you first open? i once left my food package unsealed properly for a night and my hedgehog refused to eat until i bought a new one. now i keep my food in tupperwares instead of the original packaging. if you only have one hedgehog with 2kg supply of catfood, i'd suggest you keep the food in a few tupperwares and seal them off instead of keeping it in that bag. although the bag has a zipper thing, opening it everyday will still cause the kibbles to lose its 'freshness'.

QUOTE(muchan86 @ Apr 7 2009, 11:27 PM) Yes it is and I guess choosing a good pokimon means u have to see if they face is long or round. Cuz when they face is too long it looks more to a rat than pokimon i have one which is almost like platinum, bar a few quills with brown bands. and honestly, pure platinums are a rarity in malaysia, i'm don't think if anyone can manage to breed this colour here.eric : I saw platinum before and the owner was a member here but she no longer come here (the far left one) QUOTE(cottonkandy @ Apr 8 2009, 03:10 PM) if you need any convincing that they really look like a pig, here are some photos. |
