thinking of upgrading my blu ray player from sony bdp 350 to pioneer bdp 51 fd or panny bd 35/55 ( btw i'm using panny plasma tv)
question is......is the profile is really important? 1.1. 2.0. bd live etc. my style...put in the cd and enjoy the movie.use remote to start and stop only. pioneer is much better than sony in terms of pq and aq. seen already ht kaki can try to quote me (pm) price for panny bd player please? |

QUOTE(aiman04 @ Dec 20 2008, 10:09 AM) About Profile 2.0, it's totally up to you. But after you done an audition and narrowed to 2 players with smilar quality in audio/video, the one with the latest profile will have my vote. Check my post below for speed reference. This is just an info you can take, but not necessarily be the main deciding factor: I know it will not be a easy decesion. And check this for ranks and reviews. The Pioneers have not been reviewed though. http://reviews.cnet.com/home-video-reviews...=edRating7+desc btw does the profile really important? i do not think that extra features like playing game or director commentary important for me. i only need a good av experience and will not miss any scene in the movie, be it profile 2 or profile 1.1. well sifu do you think that i will miss any scene in the movie by using profile 1.1 instead of profile 2.0. that pioneer picture quality really keng and the sound as well...btw i'm using onkyo 606 avr. hope to get feed back from friends from lyn. |

Thank you for the feed back.I'm going to get pioneer 51 fd, since i just want to enjoy the picture with good audio.Tested both sony 350 and pioneer 51 with same set up at desa lowyat.for me, pioneer was the clear winner.
i still miss my denon dvd 1940....for sound quality.. he he. the reason i ask about this profile because the s/a in desa have no clue about that. ps3 vs sony 350. picture quality.....350 slightly better. sound quality.......350 much better. btw, i going to let go my 2 months old sony bdp 350 ( foc- qed performance coaxial cable and supra lorad power cable) at rm 1500 after new year.intrested..pls pm me. |

Please add me as Pioneer 51 FD user.
It was the second unit from Desa Lowyat coz the first one kong within 4 days (no response and my disc still inside the player).sob...sob.. Upgraded the firmware (not profile) to 2.01 by using the disc ( Got from Glau). Loading, play, eject etc.....still slow even after upgrade the firmware but i'm really happy with the picture and sound. Replaced my avr from Onkyo 606 to Pioneer lx 60. The installer reposition my existing speakers.Tuned the system with spl meter. Now i'm very happy with my system, dialogue is clear, good ambiance sound from front speaker, clear sound from rear speaker.Bass still good to my ears Next upgrade will be kuro. Added on January 12, 2009, 7:05 pm QUOTE(robinlim @ Jan 12 2009, 05:01 PM) finally got the time to try out my blu-ray player on my LCD TV robin, bought it second hand from a fellow forummer it's sony BDP-S350 tested it using 'Transformers' BD really an eye opener aiman bro, u r right watching BD movies is very additive please add me in the user list i thought watching HD MKV files on my LCD considered very good enough oredi but compare with BD MKV files no fight at all but no choice, will have to live with watching MKV files for sometimes economy no good, will have to slow down the pace of building up my BD library somemore need to save money to upgrade my AVR to support TrueHD & DTS-HDMA btw, got a few questions to ask the sifus here Is it advisable to use the BD player to watch DVDs (mostly the Jack Sparrow's one) frequently? Will it damage the lens along the time like PS3? How's the upscaled PQ compare to the Upscalable HDMI DVD Player? Thanks first. i suggest you to get animation movie from pixar studio like cars, ratatolie (dunno how to spell) for picture quality. my wife and kid really like to watch these stuff. blu ray is ver additive, who says?.......ht kaki (our sifu)... panny 35 available here already? i guess the price should be more than rm 2k.to say wich one better is quite difficult unless i manage to do the comparison by using same set up.
Well it could be manufacturer defects, otherwise it would not kong in 4 days of normal usage. Thing that i like about 51 fd is audio quality. picturewise not much different from my previous sony 350. Just called my installer and inform him about my intention of getting kuro. |

although pioneer definitely made some strides in its video performance, this player is a step back in basic operability and speed compared with other recent entries in the market.
---------i agree with this...51 fd very slow in every aspect combined with the BDP-51FDs BD-live incompatibility, this isn't a player I can recommend given the state of the market today, in spite of it's strengths in other areas of performance." ----------i do not need bd live since i just put the cd end enjoy blu ray experience only(pq/aq) it failed 2:2 HD test. BD35/BD55 passed all the tests. ---------dunno about this test.as long as good to my ears/eyes enough maa. my pioneer avs lx -60 do the decoding job, i don't think 51 fd able do to onboard decoding on dts-ma. btw i would like to own panny bdp 35 but it is still not available here.kenot wait anymore so i just get myself pioneer 51 fd. no regret so far. my 2 cents. robin,
you should try on bd to enjoy the full benefits of hd.but i will get ahem version dvd should the title still not available in blu ray format also i think bd is still expensive so i prefer to rent only. i don't think it would be problem to used dvd on blu ray player. lens is to read only unless it got scratch then different story laa. i got those avr pioneer lx 60 at very special price rm3.7 (one time offer only coz kindda take it or leave it) well robin, i got so many things to upgrade in my mind.....kuro, kef iq series with velodyne sub and sonus faber speaker for my hifi. you can pm me for the detail of my new snake pit... |
