When we checked out Joe Kane's demo of the truly awesome SP-A800B at CES, we specifically asked what Blu-ray player he thought had the best image quality, he immediately said the PS3.

Even with remote, PS3 is still not a dedicated hardware BD player

PS3 is no doubt the best BD player out there but sadly, it's not a green machine, it consumes about 200 watts under load whereas normal dedicated BD players will only consume 30 watts or so. Since our TNB bills sudah naik, it will be costly to use a PS3 to watch DVDs and BDs non-stop. Sadly, dedicated blu-ray players are limited to just a few models and their loading times, although improved, still can't beat a normal dvd player. I prefer those players that can play the movie instantly without waiting. Of course, I have to use my PS3 temporarily to watch my BD movies. Damn ....... need 200 watts just to play a BD movie. 

Well, PS3 consumes 200 watts, my LCD 40' consumes 230 watts, etc. Something is definitely not right here, why need 200 watts to play a movie? It's just a games console and not even a Denon.    That's my arguement here. Anyway, any percentage saved on power consumption will have an impact on our bills. Anyway, I'll still get a dedicated blu-ray, as long as it can bitsream everything and has good loading times plus below RM3K, it's fine with me. Just waiting for more choices now and sadly, most of the models selling here are all outdated ones.

With the right specs, I will only consider a standalone if it costs cheaper than RM2k.

And I can actually get the Sony BDP-S350 for lower than RM2k actually, the only thing stopping me now is my empty wallet.

It must have built-in trueHD and dts 5.1 decoder and have 6 channel audio output (front LR, rear LR, centre, subwoofer)

ability to upscale dvd is a plus

and also upgradable firmware :-)

blu ray now locked, must use specific player only can play, ps3 now for games only

PS3 got 2 analog output only right? That guy want 6 analog output.

Not only I don't have the cash for the S350, my HM has not even approve for it. Well, she's still right, PS3 is the best BD player. At least for now.
