Hi Blu ray fans out there,

As we all know the blu ray players here (local set) costs much more than in US or elsewhere. So, assuming I want to buy one set locally, given the following choices, which do you think is the best bet. There are pros and cons but I want your opinion to help me decide on one right now.

THE CHOICES (not in order of preference) available to me :

1) SONY BDP 1SE - RM1600 (full 1 yr warranty from Sony Msia, listed at RM4999 when launching time )
It is NOS set, as you know its first gen BDP but its built like tank, solid 7.5kg (price tumbled since then), separate audio boards, blah, blah, just looking at the RCA sockets (solid, gold plated, chassis mount type) at the rear shows its audiophile quality. Of course you dont get the latest features, no profile 2 no BD live, etc, no ethernet, no USB, but I can live with it. Heard it got software bugs, but can the latest firware v4.5 solve all these?

2) SONY BDP S350 - RM1500 (still warranty from Sony Msia, few months left, listed as RM2499 by Sony)
Its new model (current for Msia, USA going to S360), has latest features, profile 2, USB, ethernet, etc, etc, but build quality lacking, , still better than cheapo dvd players, rear connectos look like regular RM200 dvd players

3) PANNY BD 60
Soon to be launched by Pana Msia at RM1999? in May/June?

Question: should I go for 1 or 2 or wait for 3? Of course in these electronics stuff one cant look too far, I am sure in 2 years time, we have RM200 BDPs flooding the market and they outperform all of the above. Thanks in advance.

Haha..

I guess than Oppo's marketin team aint tat stoopid after all..

If it can sell at 500.. more profit ma..

But seriously.. de Sg vrsn now for S$1k for an easy to use region free hardware hack is gud value ..
Other brands cost an arm n a leg jus for de region free  mod.. plus it voids de warranty..(we arent talkin abt capital outlay to get de player yet..)

Again its my opinion only la

Please enlighten me, which source is the best for getting an Oppo BDP83 (dvd region free version) into Malaysia? I think its high VQ is undisputed by the rave reviews and its SACD capability is very useful for me. We all know its USD499 from their website and even Amazon has it. But bring it back would be a problem, no? But how? Using Vpost? How much roughly "all in" - around RM2500? Or closer to RM3000 in the end.

Somebody mentioned SGD1k in Singapore, is it online purchase or we have to physically buy it in Spore and handcarry back? Any details on the retail shop or online store site? Is the Spore version region free (for dvd)?

Thanks for any information provided.

On Oppo BDP83, I emailed SLT Tech as suggested, but still waiting for their reply and quote. On the other suggestion above by Dirtrun, I couldnt really make out what he is saying, could you explain more?

Thanks

Which blu-ray player should I get, I need a quality player which looks classy from the outside - my budget is RM5,000 +/-

SONY BDP-S5000ES !

and connect to SONY STR DA5400ES AV amp - best. Anyone got one of those? But SONY Malaysia don't bring in their ES range anymore - small market here, so they only cater for the mass market lower range products, sigh...... Wonder if one can get those in Spore?
