I'm no serious trekkie but I've watched a few Star Trek TOS movies and I thought JJ Abrams did a fabulous job. The cast was excellent. I had initial doubts of the 2 comedic actors in this movie but turned out to be pretty enjoyable. Graphics were stellar as well as the action. Would have preferred if it was less funny though, some scenes were just made for laughs and i thought it was unnecessary. But luckily the script didn't turn out to be as appalling as Transformers. Great movie. Solid 4/5.

Major disappointment is the score. Appalling.

QUOTE(QuickFire @ May 9 2009, 11:26 AM) I thought the action was very much secondary to the characters. The character are what made this such a fun movie. And it's not the usual slow character-building we find in dramas as well, it's the kind where the situations and how they approach them which define who they are, and the dialogue in which everyone has a few great lines to deliver, and of course each and every one of them has their own style and swagger to back them up. It's the kind of character-driven movie which even the general Transformers-loving crowd can enjoy. And of course the pacing was perfect. Right from the moment we see the adult Kirk, the movie just flows magnificently, right till the end. The characters, and the pace and flow, and the lightness of touch everywhere... those are the main elements which made this such a terrifically fun movie. There wasnt a thick plot, but what was there was good, setting aside a few coincidences which didnt bother me at all. Forget Iron Man, forget Indy IV, this is how you do summer blockbusters. Oh, when you compare it with jerry's, this one taste like dog poo.Btw I liked the score. Dunno how it compares to Goldsmith's or any other Trek scores, but I liked this one. Anyway anyone feels the red monster, apart from the head, looks like the one in Cloverfield? That was one scene which was unnecessary, but I enjoyed it nonetheless. Star Trek is all about the characters, never in the series/movies the action plays the primary role. It's all about the chemistry between the crew and how they respond to the situations. I like how Abrams stayed that way, maintaining the close rapport between Kirk, Spock and the crew. although I didn't like some parts where he tried to "Hollywood"nized it with some not-really-apt-and-humourous lines, I do like they way the actors played their roles at the end.
