Warp goes according to order of magnitude, so the difference between say warp 3 and 4 is much larger then just simply adding +1 and the further warp speed you go, the further the speed difference.

Only voyager farked it up with the stupid warp 10 bull crap which is "infinite speed" which means you are everywhere at once. can still remember it since its total BS.
