Velodyne already came with soft rubber foot. Mine sitting on marble floor but still I can't set the volume exceed 50% or every windows and glass picture frames will rattle. I think the vibration caused by sound wave and not transmitted thru the floor.

QUOTE(howdynco @ Oct 3 2008, 09:33 PM)
Yeah Velodyne's soft rubber foot works quite well on it's own without any additional isolating foam but 50% volume is quite high already. No doubt at high volumes the sound waves on their own can cause items to resonate and rattle but for most people, the first sign of rattling or most of their 'rattling issue' is caused by the transfer of energy and vibration through the platform that the sub is sitting on.
*
So, which is which now? Kekekeke...
So, will the foam help? Or I should buy squash ball cut them into halves... and use as the isolator?

1 more question... why when I'm watchin movie, I can't adjust the sub woofer volume?

Any photo of your setup, timothyy? Maybe too many hard surfaces for the bass to bounce around. Or simply due to the stiffness of the ceiling itself  hmm.gif

No photo yet as my house is still a big mess.
Electrical wiring problem... then water piping problem... then all the small small thing problem...
Until now, my kitchen cabinet still not complete. HA! Ha! Moved in 1 month already.

Anyway, hopefully by Christmas everything will be in good con.

Regarding rattling... well, I guess it is normal. Since when I was in my hometown using just 2 x Tannoy floor stand, then to my JBL satellite speakers 5.1, I already have problem with rattling. Ha! Ha! Ha! Only problem is, the rattling is worst this time. But I guess this is because I have the biggest sub in my life... tongue.gif

Oh... by the way, I am planning to sell off my Denon Amp 2807 and speakers as well...

He! He! He!
Don't think you can avoid the rattling especially if you have plaster ceiling...
Even my grille also got rattling and can be heard from outside. Kakakakaka....

Anyway, I have not properly set up my speakers. So, donno la.

Can anyone recommend a musical sub about RM1k?

Recently been thinking of doing this:

Lossless Audio on PC>Philips PSC805>Integrated Amp>Sub>Speaker.

Noob question, if i am connecting the speakers to the Sub, then that means i dont need a powerful integrated amp cause the sub is active sub? Please enlighten me.

The sound card will be upgraded to something else at a later time.
*
Don't think you need an amp to power it anymore. Coz if your speakers connect to your sub, all the need is signal only.

Kekeke... I still have Mission speakers. Works wonderfully actually. And overall still cheap cheap.

i think putting in bass traps and acoustic panels will help a lot. the empty hard surfaces are reflecting too much sound energy especially low frequencies

you need to do something like this:

You can't expect your living room to have all these things right?

QUOTE(callmevil @ Oct 7 2008, 10:17 PM)
oooh ok i just read about rattling.. ehh remember ur physics? those rattling caused by resonance lerr.. everything (matter / compound) have a resonance limit one.. like in my room my window frames resonate most at 14hz i think.. my ceiling resonate most at around 17hz.

so meaning if ur ceiling rattling, it has nothing to do with ur curtains/windows because that does not effect the resonance threshold of ur ceiling.. so.. unless u treat ur ceiling properly (by finding out what exactly is causing the rattling, if its loose fitting then tighten + insulate with good shock obsorbers, and etc..

the thing about echo as mentioned by htkaki is also a cause to the rattle as the echo could be on a diff hz which may be the exact hz that creates the resonance.. so.. room treatment again very important.. avoid bare tiled floors, naked corners, shiny walls+shiny paint job, loose fittings..

and about ur thick curtains.. u have to understand that sound is not like light.. as curtain may be effective to damp light.. it may not be as effective to damp sound.. well not all spectrum of the sound.. those sound that create resonance most probably the low freq ones.. and with those sounds.. ur curtain will be audibly invisible.. u have to use proper sound obsorber, diffuser for this low/high freq.. same thing with wall cusions and wat not it may not be effective to low freq...

hmm typed too much.. should rest now.. haha im begining to enjoy Planet Drum as my goodnight sleep song hehehehe
*
WEll, for one on the resonance,,, it is correct. It is pure science.
Hope when ur house is done, you won't get all the rattling like mine.

Anyway, regarding the curtain... it is not the best sound absorber you can find but it does play 1 huge part in getting your acoustic right.
Just like egg tray, one of the best sound acoustic treatment you can find. He! He! He!

Well, what you guys say s true... I need to look into every nooks to solve the problem.

I recently invested in a budget sub and modded it quite extensively. Its sounds a whole lot different from stock.
yes, I have plaster ceiling, I have aluminum windows and other house fixtures that can rattle. The sub is now so good it doesn't rattle anything. If it does rattle anything, its just too loud!.
*
You mod your sub or you mod your house to stop rattling?

hi all, newbie here..

wanna ask one question;

currently i am using pioneer AV receiver + AE speakers set + active sub.
while watching dvd (dts/dolby mode), the sub is superb.. but when listening music in stereo mode, the sub is silent.. all the bass came from the front speakers.

is my setup correct?

TQ
*
That is pure direct right?
Pure direct should not have sub ma...

I might be wrong...

Hey guys...
For the Valodyne CHT12R, what setting u put on? I mean the dB knob thing. U set at 80dB or 120dB (and was it dB or Hz?)?

If its US$ price, its not exactly cheap and you still wanna consider just for side effects?.
The higher end you go on these kind of things and if you don't do something great about room acoustics, excellent spec equipment will not perform optimum or to potential. A great and expensive system in a lousy and resonant room or hall will sound shyte.

Alamak... my CHT12R is special price la.
But market is selling around RM2450-2600... depending on your nego skill.

If u wanna try your luck, go to A&L Sg Wang, look for Ah Hon.
But again lo. Many says AmCorp Mall cheaper.

Added on October 18, 2008, 12:31 pmOh, since my projector screen is 9 feet wide, will it be not good if my speakers are too far apart?
