hey guys,

I'm using a 22" ASUS VK222H LCD monitor. which is a pretty good deal if you ask me, for RM1k, you get...

Got some issues I wanna ask...

When watching DVDs or AVI movies/tv series, there's some 'colorful noise' on screen. When playing some games at 1680x1050 resolution, I get some abnormalities. Is this due to the graphic card? Currently using an old AGP 6800GT on my old AMD Athlon XP machine...

Hmmm.. is it pixellation, square blocks and/or artifacts?  unsure.gif

Define abnormalities.... hmm.gif

artifacts I believe...
its like scratches on film like that...

erm.. abnormalities like... long horizontal lines on some objects and characters (in neverwinter nights2)

Possible source of the problems (from most likely to least likely)...

- overheating GPU
- power supply not enough..
- failing (or about to fail) GPU
- bad caps on mobo (especially near the AGP slot)
- driver issues
*
wah... blink.gif lemme go back and check power supply and see later.
what's "bad caps" on mobo?
I downloaded the latest driver some few months back from nVidia so doubt that's the issue.

Thanks man.

saw RM999 on czone pricelist. is the picture quality better than HP w2207h? these 2 are the only 22 incher with HDMI at about RM1k price range.

why don't you try to hook it up on another pc?
*
I've not seen or tested the HP ww2207h. Cant say for sure... playing PS3 games, it looks fantastic biggrin.gif

No other PCs for me to hook it to sad.gif

why retailers always say dvi on 19inch does giv any big affect.really ke? blink.gif
they say 22inch higher can spot the diff between dvi and rgb.
*
not sure about 19" but using VGA on a 22", the resolution is lower by default compared to DVI it can go up to 1680x1050.

I had a nvidia driver about 4/5 months old... my new lcd monitor didn't work until I downloaded the recent driver. Can try that.
*
yup, I did that... it seems nVidia now has some tweaking tools too.. dunno what I did that day... after shutting down and turning it back on a few hours later, this is what I got...

windows boots up
windows desktop appears
screen goes blank with message "no DVI link" or "DVI not found" or something like that.
had to force reset a few times then got in to safe mode, roll back the drivers and things went back ok. sweat.gif re-installed the new drivers and this time, I'm not touching any of the tweak settings. unsure.gif

one question guys...

would your refresh rate at 60hz cause any issues? it shouldn't, right?

even when I pause the AVI file (tv series or anime), the artifact is still moving.. downwards. It's mainly 'magenta' in color.
edit: added: could it be due to poor or bad video encoding?

The problem with judging the display like that is not very accurate, that is until you bring the unit home and test it yourself. Even mine looks so-so on the shop's display shelf, but after some adjustment back home looks way much better... Also many shops use VGA connection (often going thru VGA splitter) instead of DVI. rolleyes.gif

Could be mobo issue... Quote from Pinned: Bad Capacitors: Information and symptoms hmm.gif Besides onboard video, I found it also happens to graphics cards as well, especially when the filter capacitor on the power rail to the graphics card is failing. wink.gif

Nope... it ain't 60Hz issue. nod.gif

Nopes.. when you pause, it should not be moving... If you are having that on almost every video file from different source, the it is definitely no poor video encoding issue. icon_rolleyes.gif

oh? meaning its the video encoding that's bad? or 'no'?
means when I pause and its still moving = bad caps ? sad.gif

sigh.. if its badcaps means, it's affecting my GFX card a bit only... time to save up for a small upgrade i guess.. sigh...

4. Is there any other recommended model/brand if my budget is around 1k. my requirement:
-HDMI & DVI

PS3 can use DVI-D also.. hehe

but with HDMI, you need not unplug and plug between your PC and PS3 whistling.gif
All you need to do is press one button and your screen switches between DVI and HDMI (even VGA for my monitor)

i still think that for a 24", having a better GFX card helps... especially when you're gonna need to be pumping out 1920 x 1600 res

not all games support 1680x1050 res... so live with it. Be glad that the 22" scales down res very very well.
